radiofloyd 848 Report post Posted December 11, 2018 Looking at various end of year lists: Pitchfork Stereogum Drowned in Sound I don’t listen to most of the music on those lists (rare exceptions aside I don’t really listen to rap, rnb, pop, metal, electronic, punk, hardcore, low-fi rock, noise music etc etc) so it hasn’t really been a standout year for me. Especially if you compare it to recent years where we had albums I really loved by the likes of Slowdive, Fleet Foxes, Radiohead, Kendrick Lamar and Sufjan Stevens. But I’ve still listened to a lot of new music, and these are my picks: Amen Dunes - Freedom Arctic Monkeys - Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino Beach House - 7 Father John Misty - God’s Favourite Customer Foxing - Nearer My God John Prine - The Tree of Forgiveness Natalia Lafourcade - Musas Sandro Perri - In Another Life Screaming Females - All at Once Wild Pink - Yolk in the Fur
DANGERMAN 3,190 Report post Posted December 11, 2018 I've not listened to a huge amount of 2018 albums, podcasts have eaten in to my music time so even the ones I have I've not listened to enough. I'm getting Cat Power's new one for christmas, and I've not picked up Julien Baker's new one yet, loved her last one though. I've also only started listening to A Perfect Circle's Eat The Elephant in the past week, seems good though My picks so far are probably Low - Double Negative and Pinegrove - Skylight I liked Cats Never Die's album too(Stay at Home) and MeWithoutYou, although I've not listened to that enough
Hendo 1,498 Report post Posted December 11, 2018 Same as Ben, though my year has been spent testing our own podcasts a lot through different speakers trying to get better sound. I like the Father John Misty album but nothing on it compares to “Mr Tillman” so it kind of drops off for me after that. The Arctic Monkeys album didn’t do much for me, but I like it in theory so I’m gonna have to spend more time with it. My initial attempts at it I just found it dull. The best new album I’ve heard this year by a long margin is “Joy As An Act of Resistance” by Idles. Absolutely thrilling and sometimes heartbreaking and reminds me of the great sounds distorted bass and guitars can make.
AndyKurosaki 329 Report post Posted December 12, 2018 I’ve not really listened to a lot of new music this year. So I can only go with ‘Cool Patrol’ by Ninja Sex Party. But I’ve listened to it multiple times and still love it. So yeah. That.
Hendo 1,498 Report post Posted December 13, 2018 Although I haven’t listened to many new albums this year, I have some good random songs on Spotify a lot.

DifferentClass 1,432 Report post Posted December 13, 2018 Looking at what I've been listening to I've just realised everything I thought was new actually came out last year 😞 The only thing that's from 2018 I've been listening to and like is Dirty Computer by Janelle Monáe. I guess ask me at the end of 2019 what I actually like this year.
illdog 1,810 Report post Posted December 29, 2018 Another one that’s listened to very little new this year. This is it: Czarface and MF Doom - Czarface meets Meral Face. Czarface for reference have a certain Inspectah Deck from The Wu in their lineup and I think he shines on this album. Good stuff.
