King of Fighters XV is set to come out for 2020.

Another pic from SNK's conference.

I went through a Korean site's reporting on it through Google Translate but I still couldn't find anything answering the questions I have for this.

They have news on KoFXIV maybe coming to Switch and Xbox and in that pic they have Ver 3.0 so I wonder if they have a new balance patch (maybe more new characters?) to coincide with a re-launch?

But all the news is on KoFXV  is that's its happening.

Thought KOF13 was bloody excellent. Didn’t get KOF14, mainly due to not having enough spare time to invest in both that and SFV. Might pick it up cheap at some point though, especially since Blue Mary and Yamazaki are in it now.

KOF15 is certainly good news  - SNK clearly putting so much behind their fighting games, and that makes me a happy camper.

Looking forward to Samurai Shodown more though ?

They've been releasing character trailers for a while but it's got a substantial update release date now: 17th February 2022.

It's gonna have rollback netcode too so that's nice news.  It looks fairly feature rich too.

KoFXIV had the foundation of a fun fighting game but it was everything else that let it down.  It's nice to see this grabbing a little more attention.

Oil Baron or not, I'm going to pick this one up. I can't play KOF for the life of me but they really put a lot of effort into this and it's always good to see a game launch with a substantial roster that's not purposefully fractured to sell DLC.

Beta out on Friday, guess I'll be going with the PS4 version again cause of how sony lock down actual good (and honest) controllers on PS5

might do the same. That being said, I barely spent any time with the last one, I hope this is better, it certainly looks like it's going to be

Having to learn 3 characters seems daunting, I keep dropping alts on Strive cause I rly just want to be a character specialist and not lose on lab time (and enthusiasm). Having said that I envision picking some fairly vanilla ones and also a very annoying weirdo because I do like it when people get mad fighting me.

I have KoF13 on steam right now and have been trying different characters out trying to see who has the most appealing gimmick, but the beta only has 8 so there won't be much choice there I guess.

Never played a KoF title. I'm guessing game 16 isn't really a jump on point.

Yeah if you didn’t play the past 15 games you won’t know the story or lore as to why everyone is jumping up and down and punching each other

It reads like you’re interested but already looking for an excuse not to play it.

The trend with fighting games isn't to require lots of residual knowledge from past stuff

eg, compare past GG to current GG, for instance

That part doesn't bother me. The fact I've never played an SNK fighter at all, so it would be completely new and alien to me. I've only ever really dipped my toe in 2D Fighters, beyond MK and SF. Didn't like Guilty Gear at all. To the extent I gave Strive a wide birth. I tried to get into Blazblue and that didn't take either.

16 isn't but the upcoming 15th is the perfect time for sure.

It's not really a trend (yet?) because that's pretty much the only example. If you hop into SF, Tekken, DoA or even Smash, you will have an incredibly big advantage over people who never played those series' before.  We'll see how those games develop as we go along into the new generation, but something like Tekken is borderline impenetrable at this point if you haven't played a prior instalment.

But on the other hand it's just a bunch of videogames. With enough dedication and time you can slowly but surely get into any game probably and there's always a soft reset for the playerbase whenever a new game comes out, with newcomers giving it a shot.
