A bit like the GTA V to VI thing, I can't help thinking that as long as the ESO game is bringing in the $$$ they just aren't in any rush to bring anything out that might impact on their current online game income.

 

I know games have elongated dev times, but Skyrim debuted in 2011 FFS.

Still has a really loyal community by the sounds of things.

 

The way I see it though, the sequel to Skyrim was Fallout 4 and its sequel is Starfield. I imagine they're all hands on deck for these specific games each iteration, and bring forward the tech improvements to their engine across each one.

 

That'd be my guess anyway. Which we would get a teaser of the setting tho. Hopefully a weird one

Yeah I think the Skyrim money has probably mostly dried up mostly now, the last release was the Switch version and then VR 5-6ish years ago? Whereas GTA V is still ever present in the UK chart in the top-20 every week. 

 

GTA V has sold probably 5 or 6 times as much as Skyrim as well. Both successful games but GTA V is a on a whole 'nother level compared to most games ever made, only surpassed by Minecraft in the all time stakes.

 

It's a shame this is 5-6 years away but they have been relatively transparent in saying that this will only going into production properly once Starfield is out the door, so I don't expect it to start development properly until early 2024 at the earliest, so a 2029 or 2030 release is the most likely scenario and who the hell knows what platforms we'll have by then, presumably the Xbox Class S/X/Y and PS6 but who knows.

Maybe a debate for another topic, but by 2030 will new console releases even be that relevant - or will we all be playing cloud streamed games through current tech ?

4chan 'leak', so grain of salt but they've leaked things before. Sentinel is the capital city of Hammerfell. The reason this is getting picked up a week later is cause of Asha's tweet which has eight asterisks in it, so it's seeming a bit more plausible now

 

 

 

Morrowind's magic would mean you could jump over mountains and fly around the place

 

People have been speculating one of the Daggerfall locations since that 2018 trailer I think, cause it looked like Hammerfell

 

 

You can see how naval battles would figure into it, if true. High Rock is the bit on the top

 

Would be curious about the planned scale, if any of this is true, as the square mileage of Daggerfall is close to Great Britain (but it's all proc gen)

Really it depends on the cannon ending for V.

 

The Aldmeri Dominion and Thalmor will be even bigger nazis than they were in V if they won. 

 

I suspect the cannon ending would be the Stormcloaks win and boot the Aldmeri led Empire out the door since the whole Talos thing of Man beating Mer being a running theme in TES.

 

I am wondering if for the first time we see ESO being the lead for mainline games in showing places. In this instance the Aliki'r desert (Home of aforementioned Sentinel), Bangkorai, Wrothgar, Stormhaven, Rivenspire and Glenumbra all being represented with their capitals? It's pretty interesting how a lot of the cities in ESO are in the mainline games, some of them are almost 1:1 while others are still taking shape. Riften is a good example of that.

 

Just realised what colour the races are in these area as well if it's true. A lot of people are going to be very very mad.  

 

The more I think about the story in V and how check and balances were abused to snatch power under the guise of puritanical ethic, the more prophetic it seems?

I wonder if MS will still own bethesda by the time it's out, I must admit to being really interested in it, but not picking it up under current ownership. It's my version of the SNK situation. 

 

I would like to finally get on with Skyrim though and actually see what it's about. Last time I tried it in VR it just wasn't it, it's not made for VR and it's exhausting exploring that world on your feet. A simple dungeon ends up with me drenched in sweat and all kinds of fucked up and the controls don't feel good, the UI is very console-centric so VR is clumsy

 

That, GTAV and Witcher 3 are the trinity of definitive open world games from the 2010s, and I've not played any of them. Well, I've played the beginning of Witcher 3 about 10 times, so I know that game's beginning pretty well at least. Have to check off Skyrim, and maybe finish that Daggerfall playthrough from last year as well.

Someone had a look at the employee number at the start of Starfield a while ago, and reckons that it was intended as an Easter egg for the setting of the next Elder Scrolls. This was actually spotted years ago but has popped up again the other week, it's just nobody gave a shit about Starfield and forgot about this I guess, lol

 

 

Also, Mike Kirkbride has weighed in (Morrowind writer). He doesn't work there anymore so he doesn't 'know', but it does seem to line up with everything so far, including the 2018 trailer that actually looks like Hammerfell

 

 

Daggerfall was the first TES that Todd Howard worked on, and if TESVI is his last then it would be an interesting way to come full circle on that.
