Was reading this bit about how Hollywood is probably going to enter a 'anti DEI' type era like the way meta is now, cause they don't have the backbone to put up with Trump it sounds like. There's this bit here about the new Captain America which might put into perspective some of the reasons it had those reshoots

edit the link is paygated so I'll copy quotes from somewhere else

Quote
Within weeks, industry speculation turned inward. Hollywood's corridors of power are uniquely vulnerable to blowback from a notoriously vindictive president (who in 2018 lobbied the postmaster general to double postal rates for Amazon shipments to retaliate against Jeff Bezos for critical coverage in the Washington Post). A third question arose: Who will Trump put on blast first? Disney Entertainment co-chair Dana Walden — overseer of ABC news, among other divisions, and a front-runner to replace soon-retiring Disney CEO Bob Iger — became a prime suspect due to her long friendship with, and strenuous campaign fundraising efforts for, Kamala Harris.

Sources I consulted, ranging from studio executives to hitmaking producers and high-level talent managers as well as on-set crew members (most of whom spoke on condition of anonymity), predict Hollywood will generally become more self-censoring and less capable of critiquing the current political moment, if not less influential overall.

"Hollywood doesn't matter as much as it thinks it matters," says a talent manager with A-list clients. "You had the biggest stars in the world support Kamala Harris. She couldn't have drawn more powerful advocates. And it didn't move the needle. What does that tell you? It's unsettling because the people and things you hold in high esteem don't drive the culture. As much as I love movies, they aren't the driver anymore."

According to a technical crew member on the film with knowledge of both the screenings and the reshoot process (which also took place last year), the character portrayed by Harrison Ford — Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, a demagogic military leader who morphs into an irrational, orange-hued superhuman — created unforeseen political resonances for the studio in an inaugural year.

"He's this very powerful general who becomes kind of a fascist and turns into a raging Red Hulk. That was seen as an allusion to Trump," this source explains. "Disney was realizing, Hey, we've been bleeding for a while. Let's try not to piss off our core base anymore than we have been over the past couple of years."

Cowardly shit

Insanity. How ironic that anti-censorship is actually causing more censorship and stifling of free speech.

Becoming a genuine dictatorship over there. Not even been a week yet.

I remember reading rumblings about that (in general, not related to the Cap movie) in December already, not sure if it was Hollywood or the Gaming industry, but both will be impacted anyway. Whether or not Anthony Mackie will in some shape or form address this publicity will be a good litmus test of how deep this goes, because in the past he's been very outspoken about, well, pretty much anything.

But yeah, kind of puts the spotlight on Harris' campaign slogan, doesn't it.

The VA in this for Peter Parker was also praising the show for not being "annoying and woke", or something like that

Will be interesting to see how many actors go mask off like this in the next couple months, pun not intended

It actually makes you wonder how X-Men 97 fits in with the current climate, which is full of the sorts of things that people like to give out about on twitter

That actually does look good, very different vibes from the usual MCU stuff, too. The opening shot with its retro-futuristic themes seems to channel a tiny bit of Metropolis as well and I also like the music (so far). Quite likely that I'm going to watch this one, not interested in the Cap movie anymore though.

Edit: the duality of man.

At first I was a bit disappointed FF was in a separate reality and not in the MCU “proper”. But actually it feels really fresh and clean as opposed to Cap 4 which already feels like it’s juggling so many things.

I do really like both but I think FF will be a much more pleasant and easy watch out of these 2

I can’t believe how perfect The Thing looks and Human Torch flying through NY like that oh shit. And Galactus at the end oh baby I’m so excited.

I wonder who the long, grey haired guy is supposed to be

Yeah, I don't get it. I dunno, I still think these guys look like a bunch of mega dweebs and I guess you have to be a comic book guy to see otherwise.

I think Captain Awkward Timing looks much more interesting.

agreed, I think this looks dreadful, but then I'm not sure how you do the Fantastic 4 and it not be some level of lame. The effects seem pretty laughable too, The Thing looked better in the old films

And also agree with a point you haven't made. The new Captain America might actually be alright, but it really seems like the absolute worst time for America to make itself the good guys

EDIT: also, they can't beat Galactus, so this seems like a bit big for their "1st" outing

There’s no way about the effects. The Thing looks perfect and the way Johnny flies around those buildings? Amazing

I don’t think lame is the right word, even if I get what you mean. There’s many takes they could for the FF. Sitcom, sci-fi heavy, etc. but I think doing the Jetsons by way of Marvel is a great way to go and I think they’re pulling it off perfect here

And the FF were the first people to beat Galactus. They got this

My only criticism is The Thing doesn’t sound how I imagined. He’s voice is a bit lighter, and the way he speaks is less dad-joke, cheesy uncle character.

But I’ll absolutely take it. They even got him in walking the streets in a trench coat and hat oh, they are going to finally make a great FF film I’m so excited

EDIT: Another thing which is great is it doesn’t just feel like Guardians of the Galaxy - again. Which would have been an easy trap to fall in too

I quite like the Thing here, looks closer to what little I know about some of his comic book designs. Also significantly more 'rocky' than the one from the older movies which always gave off the vibe of a padded, soft, rock-coloured jumpsuit (which it actually might have been).

Superman, FF, Daredevil. All my favourites are coming back, I’m so excited about comic book movie stuff again.

There was also a rumour that the Russo’s who did Cap 2, Cap 3, IW and Endgame are going to be involved with the live action X-Men movies. I actually think they’d make a great fit for X-Men

EDIT: Also these FF costumes in the movie look so good. That shade of light blue and white is nice. I want a hoodie like that
