Been watching a X-Men ‘97 reaction. The show is still so amazing to me. I just love how no hold barred it is. I think it is a show that requires a basic working knowledge of X-Men to get in to it, and thanks to the movies I expect most people will by now. But if you’ve read X-Men and love Jim Lee’s X-Men designs it’s like a broken water main gushing with all that stuff which can be overwhelming and too fast paced sometimes, but if you have nostalgia for that stuff it is like a X-Men 97 time capsule/time bomb just exploding with big attitude, stupidly dramatic dialogue and moments, and big messages and themes that has the nuance of teenage graffiti. It’s triple shot espresso of literally 90’s X-Men and it’s so much fun. I might watch the whole series myself again at the end of the year

Yeah, it looks really excellent. Hopefully they can recapture some of that Winter Soldier magic with this.

They need a really great Captain America film to get this character liked again. This character is a cornerstone of their whole universe and the whole MCU thing feels adrift without something solid character to anchor it

We watched Venom: The Last Dance and it was worse than I thought it would have been. My wife enjoyed it despite not liking those kinds of movies ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It’s a bit of a mess and has an absolutely nonsensical plot. More like a game with a beginning vmv. The camper van family though was probably the most stupid thing of all.

So yeah movies in the Philippines are slim pickings atm. You know what they didn’t even get Godzilla -1 at all at the cinema.

You should watch Spiderverse itself though, the Miles Morales film. That one is genuinely great and better than MCU spuderman

No it’s not. MCU Spider 1 & 3 + Avengers are loads better than Spiderverse.

Spider-Verse is just a really good combo of comics and cinema. It's the most kinetic film of that genre I've ever seen, like every scene is a comic panel screaming into life. It's got such an expressive style and great visual gags. Put it on UHD with HDR and it only accentuates this

The first MCU Spiderman is decent largely cause of Michael Keaton but I remain baffled by the praise for the third one. I just felt it was so busy and massively wasted Willem Defoe and Jamie Foxx, who would have been better served if they were the only characters that got portalled in. How do you get Defoe to return and just crowd him out of his own film, ffs. Nobody cares about Sandman. I don't know anything about Foxx's character but I found him enjoyable, but he should have been a support to Defoe and noone else.

Spider-Verse portals in as many characters as MCU 3 does but juggles them way better I thought, and I thought the over the hill greying Peter Parker was an inspired choice as it's a point of contact for the older audience as well, which is what a family film needs. It's also maybe the only film since Raimi's first which gives the first 'proper' webswinging scene a sense of emotional power. They make you wait for it.

And look, even Todd Holland thinks it's the best Spider-Man.

It just has more heart than any Spider-Man film to date. Which is the most important part to any Spider-Man story because ultimately it’s a story about a guy struggling with life. He tries, he fails, he wants to give up but can’t help but try again. Which I think is what makes Spider-Man the most relatable hero. And that’s why it doesn’t matter which Spider-Man it is, if you can really tell a good story around this idea then you’ve hit the mark. It just happens that Spider-Verse does it better than any of the other movies.
