Microtransactions and Sighs

Here's the thing, don't like something... don't buy it, I'm almost positive that I've never bought any of these bullshit random lootboxes or anything like that and you know what, it hasn't had any effect on the enjoyment of the games I've played.

I'm certainly not going to give myself a hernia about the practice.😂

I suspect there's probably an example of a game affecting you, but never the less Nag, loot boxes do affect game design, not always but there's plenty of examples.

no need to be accusing people of faking outrage though

Yeah, there is.... Gears 4, over 500 hours in and I've spent nothing apart from the price of the game.

And come on, bandying around the term scum and god knows what else, that's a term I'd reserve for rapists and kiddy fiddlers not a games company. @DANGERMAN

@Nag

I deliberately didn't give an example because I know what ever I'd picked you'd say it didn't affect you. To give an example that shouldn't get an argument, the last Star Wars Battlefront game, they removed them and it messed with the progression

And whatever words you'd use for paedophiles I don't see the relevance, you still accused Nick of pretending to be outraged. Stop being a dick to people, it seems to be becoming a habit

Any game you have played that has paid lootboxes in has affected your gameplay. Those skins could be actually be rewards you work towards interwoven into the gameplay. Even if it's just cosmetic stuff they have you the instant you equip something you've "earned". You become an advertising board for whoever does buy them. The people that wear them are advertising to you and breaking the original aesthetic of the game. It's unavoidable, if there's stuff like that in a agme it's affecting you and the game you play on a base level.

It's easier and more profitable for them to chuck everything in a randomised box and class it as "gameplay". It's just another piece of unrelated skinnerbox design there to keep you invested.

Also Activision Blizzard can suck a cock. Same goes for all the big publishers, they're all a set of cranks.

Loot boxes are crack for the eyes. People mock casuals for playing candy crush but it’s all the same colourful loud shit to make you feel like a lucky boy or girl.

Whatever @DANGERMAN... if that's being a dick to someone then everyone on here is more than guilty of that on a daily basis.

Maybe some people should give up gaming and find a less upsetting pastime.

Or maybe call these companies out on their bullsht and things may improve if enough of us do it?

I do tend to stay away from most AAA games these days. & have moved away from them quite a bit compared to how I used to be. The design of them seems to have changed in recent years to where they don’t hold that much interest for me especially as the business side has slowly become more and more obvious in the games themselves. With many just becoming a vehicle for loot and selling extras. Which is a shame as I used to love the big blockbuster AAA games like Modern Warfare and it’s ilk. Take my old Completion lists on GTM, mine was one of the biggest every year. Now I struggle to do a GotY top 5 list. It’s not like I’m crying myself to sleep about it but it is a real shame to me when this is one of my favourite hobbies.

Saying all that, luckily I do still have enough to keep me interested though. As there’s plenty of variety with increased quality on the indie side now. Along with the odd AAA gem like God of War.

That never works out. People will act like they’re going to boycott them on release then get buyers impulse. There’s that famous image from steam about a game that was going to be boycotted but then everyone from the movement was on it day 1.

I’m sorry for the lack of information!

That was Modern Warfare 2.

Im not saying boycott or anything like that, I know it doesn’t work. But keeping making a fuss and things could change. Battlefront 2 and Shadow of War are 2 big examples of games that got lootboxes removed after lots of kick back. I’m just saying maybe not be so dismissive and accepting of it. It may not do anything but better than just rolling over and accepting.

I might download it, I never played the first one. From what I remember people still enjoyed it when it was rereleased

I agree with pretty much everything @Nag has said.

I just don’t get why these things make people so angry? It’s just capitalist society, if you go on a Plane you have to pay x amount for a reserved seat, x amount for baggage, x amount more for a better seat, priority boarding etc. All of these are essentially micro transactions on top of the fee you paid to get on the Plane on the first place. It’s just capitalism.

I don’t like it as much as the next man but there isn’t anything you can do about it. For sure I’m not work myself up and get angry when I encounter a loot box or micro transaction. If the game is good then ignore it and move on.

In this case it’s just a bit odd seeing people get worked up over a reasonably old game that has come to PS+ for free for subscribers. There’s not even one MTX in the single player campaign and that’s - arguably - the only reason to bother with it.

@Blakey by your logic every time you see a loot box you should buy it, you're in a capitalist society so you're obligated to take part.

You're allowed to complain about stuff, come on lad

Nah, I’ll probably never buy a loot box. I do actually like the act of opening them though whenever they’re given out, it’s cool.

You can complain about stuff all you want, just as I can complain about the people complaining about stuff 😂

Just this crusadery culture spurred on by Sterling et al. Does my nut in a bit sometimes is all, people think being anti-mtx is some kind of movement I think 😂

to be fair @Blakey at least you're consistent. You have loads of preorders, throw yourself in to hype and buy special editions, you aren't a hypocrite
