Microtransactions and Sighs

Any game you have played that has paid lootboxes in has affected your gameplay. Those skins could be actually be rewards you work towards interwoven into the gameplay. Even if it's just cosmetic stuff they have you the instant you equip something you've "earned". You become an advertising board for whoever does buy them. The people that wear them are advertising to you and breaking the original aesthetic of the game. It's unavoidable, if there's stuff like that in a agme it's affecting you and the game you play on a base level.

It's easier and more profitable for them to chuck everything in a randomised box and class it as "gameplay". It's just another piece of unrelated skinnerbox design there to keep you invested.

Also Activision Blizzard can suck a cock. Same goes for all the big publishers, they're all a set of cranks.

Or maybe call these companies out on their bullsht and things may improve if enough of us do it?

I do tend to stay away from most AAA games these days. & have moved away from them quite a bit compared to how I used to be. The design of them seems to have changed in recent years to where they don’t hold that much interest for me especially as the business side has slowly become more and more obvious in the games themselves. With many just becoming a vehicle for loot and selling extras. Which is a shame as I used to love the big blockbuster AAA games like Modern Warfare and it’s ilk. Take my old Completion lists on GTM, mine was one of the biggest every year. Now I struggle to do a GotY top 5 list. It’s not like I’m crying myself to sleep about it but it is a real shame to me when this is one of my favourite hobbies.

Saying all that, luckily I do still have enough to keep me interested though. As there’s plenty of variety with increased quality on the indie side now. Along with the odd AAA gem like God of War.

That never works out. People will act like they’re going to boycott them on release then get buyers impulse. There’s that famous image from steam about a game that was going to be boycotted but then everyone from the movement was on it day 1.

I’m sorry for the lack of information!

That was Modern Warfare 2.

Im not saying boycott or anything like that, I know it doesn’t work. But keeping making a fuss and things could change. Battlefront 2 and Shadow of War are 2 big examples of games that got lootboxes removed after lots of kick back. I’m just saying maybe not be so dismissive and accepting of it. It may not do anything but better than just rolling over and accepting.

I agree with pretty much everything @Nag has said.

I just don’t get why these things make people so angry? It’s just capitalist society, if you go on a Plane you have to pay x amount for a reserved seat, x amount for baggage, x amount more for a better seat, priority boarding etc. All of these are essentially micro transactions on top of the fee you paid to get on the Plane on the first place. It’s just capitalism.

I don’t like it as much as the next man but there isn’t anything you can do about it. For sure I’m not work myself up and get angry when I encounter a loot box or micro transaction. If the game is good then ignore it and move on.

In this case it’s just a bit odd seeing people get worked up over a reasonably old game that has come to PS+ for free for subscribers. There’s not even one MTX in the single player campaign and that’s - arguably - the only reason to bother with it.

Nah, I’ll probably never buy a loot box. I do actually like the act of opening them though whenever they’re given out, it’s cool.

You can complain about stuff all you want, just as I can complain about the people complaining about stuff ?

Just this crusadery culture spurred on by Sterling et al. Does my nut in a bit sometimes is all, people think being anti-mtx is some kind of movement I think ?

You might like opening lootboxes but people remember and like working towards something that is tangible within the design of the game.

For example in Halo 3 if you saw someone with the badass armour set and a katana on their back, you knew they were skilled and worked hard at the game. Now you just buy that shit. It's a load of old horse shite.

I think because no one is angry @Blakey and it’s good to discuss and have open talks rather than mocking or posting singular sentences that have no input. No one is angry ?

Nothing anyone can do about it? I think @mfnick pointed out battlefield 2. But then you’re saying just buy buy buy. Consume. Do you think political protests have zero merit and places like change.org don’t make a difference?

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Thats a heavy example granted. But still. If you see wrong doing you speak up. It’s natural.

Battlefront 2 still sold shit loads, it didn’t really affect things much.

I do think political protests and petitions have merit because they’re usually about things that matter. I don’t think whether a game has MTX or not really matters in the whole shitshow of capitalist western politics right now. I’m much more worried about food shortages after March rather than whether x game has loot boxes.
