Monster Hunter World

Never played a Monster Hunter before, as have any of the people I regularly play online with and we're having a blast. The 'tutorial' section did over stay it's welcome a little, and I still don't understand how the online bits work but other than that i'm hooked. It reminds me a lot of Diablo 3, possibly the whole go out, kill stuff, get gear that works better with some of your other pieces of armour to kill bigger stuff loop.

I think i'm starting to get my head around a few of the systems in place, although can see myself spending a lot of time on google today when i'm supposed to be working.

What's the Unity stat?

So you have something called a Guild Card. You can send and receive these cards and they have you entire history of hunting on them, how many times you've used a weapons, how many successes and fails you've done. what achievements you've unlocked etc.

If you have exchanged cards with someone and you continue hunting with them, your Unity level goes up, but only with those people you're guild carded up with. When you hit milestones with that particular person/s you're going to get rewards for it, either gourmet food vouchers or paw pass tickets of varying rarities which can be turned in for rare carves with the Veggie Elder (if he's still in the game, I've not seen him yet) or it's needed as materials for some equipment crafting.

In previous games if you were offline and you had a peoples Guild Cards they'd show up in your gathering hall and you could send them out on missions in exchange for resource points, again, I don't know if that's in this game.

In short, share your Guild Card, accept Guild Cards and try to hunt with the same set of people to get rewards for it.

You might want to go through at some point in your career and cull all the dead wood from your roster, because it will fill up fast.

Killed a rathian on an expedition and feel like a total boss. Not going to try again any time soon as I was woefully underlevelled for it but it was fun all the same, going to go through the story missions to unlock more levels and resources to find and then get better weapons and armour before worrying too much about the big mons.

Is that when you first run into her escorting that cart?  I was like 'nah, not yet' and just ran off.  I've took a couple down since.  She seems easier in this, but only because her poisoning tail attack seems easier to dodge.  I never got hit by it in either fight and I used to get slapped around fairly consistently.

She isn't dropping the goods, though for the Rathian long sword.  I always get that weapon :(

No it was just on a random gather quest thing and I started hunting a Yuki khaki or whatever the fuck it's called and then an anjanath came along and then a rathios and then a rathian, took ages because of all the ridiculous monsters knocking about and because I was nowhere near powerful enough.

I managed to kill an anjanath, it took me two goes. It was a genuine 'yussss' moment in gaming when the fucker bit it eventually, didn't think I was going to be able to do it to be honest, had to switch to the trusty great sword and do some side hunting to get it to the same level my switch axe was at, but it was just a much better suited weapon for the task.

Had to pull out all the stops and felt like a proper Hunter rather than just hacking and slashing as I had been up until that point, used scenery and environment, rocks from above and paratoads. Made sure my slinger had cluster berries in it because they momentarily stun the target and can break some of its animations. Kept making pitfall traps that allowed me to get a few free hits in and trying to mount where possible. It was good, looking forward to what I can make with the parts.

Had my first cart at the hands of Barroth after getting too cocky trying to exploit invincibility frames. Whoops!

Looking at giving Jyuratodus a going over to get a water sac so I can get a water Gunlance for the Anjanath fight and maybe looking at getting some fire resilient armour. I can't see a Pukei tree in the Gunlance so I might craft a Switch Axe to have a poison option. Looking for that one stand out weapon and armour set that's going to carry you through the lower quests, it doesn't look like there's a utility set so far like Barroth in 3U or Tetsucabra in 4U.

The old ones are the best

Like the long sword the gun lance's poison variant is made from Rathian parts.

With armour sets I've just been using this Vespoid armour.  I got it when I was struggling against the electric squirrel since it had some thunder resistance and it was easy to find parts to craft it.  Just been upgrading it with armour stones and I can't say it hasn't been sturdy enough so far.  It's only elemental weakness is fire so obviously when certain monsters get access to their fire attacks while raging I do have to be mindful.

But I do need something fire resistant soon for when I have to deal with something like Rathalos and his Fire Bros.

Usually you have two options when it comes to elemental stuff. You have a low base attack and high elemental, and high base attack with low elemental. Usually the joke monsters have the low attack high elemental so that's why I assumed Pukei would be the one. Which leaves the conundrum, where the hell is the jokey version?

How you finding the Gunlance, @DifferentClass? Have you found the one you like best between normal, long and wide?

MONSTER HUNTER WORLD: 5 MILLION COPIES SHIPPED IN 3 DAYS

Quote

In the three days since launch, Capcom has shipped over 5 million copies of Monster Hunter: World.

Capcom announced the figure, which includes digital sales. It is worth bearing in mind that "shipped" is slightly different to "sold" for physical copies, in that it means units sent to retailers, not paid for by consumers -  but it bodes well.

Earlier this month, DualShockers reported that Japanese gaming industry veteran, Hirokazu Hamamura, predicted that Monster Hunter: World would sell 10 million units worldwide long-term, taking into account the PC release slated for this Fall.

PC players are can expect a slew of free post-release content, including free monsters.

The title has debuted at No.1 in the UK charts, with the highest week one sales of any game in the series to date.

The last Monster Hunter title was 2016's Monster Hunter Generations for the 3DS, which managed to reach No.3 in the UK charts - World is clearly an improvement for Capcom itself.

If you want to get to grips with the basics in Monster Hunter: World, you can check our guide on How to Hunt along with what you might have missed in Monster Hunter: World's Hub.

Managed to kill that flying mouse bat thing by the skin of my teeth, had 2 minutes left to do it and had used all my provisions and stuff and had been carted twice. It didn't help that I got sidetracked with the flashy blindly raptor thing but still im reaching with every attempt and its getting to the stage where im going to be effectively wasting an hour of my life. I'm getting by with ragtag armour sets and need to go back really and properly farm some of the mons I've surpassed or achieved, could probably more easily kill the anjanoth or rathalos now and make better all round armour, especially in a group. I'm surviving by dodging most attacks and then hitting hard with the great sword but ideally I'd like to be tougher and more agile with a powerful switch axe, at the moment if I get stun locked by the super powerful monster then I'm done for especially if they are enraged.

I'm enjoying it but I think I'm over reaching at the moment and it can be a very sharp difficulty spike.

Pualumo was a cunt, but only because the other thing it fights with wouldn't fuck off. Spent more time getting flashed and caught up in the middle of them two fighting than I did fighting it alone.

Radobaan is an awesome fight, probably my favourite out of everything I've gone against so far. It's got little bits of previous monsters rolled into one. He feels so unpredictable when he's writing around on the floor to the point where getting near him can be quite scary. Top stuff. His Sword and shield looks like it could be fantastic as well, so that's something to look forwards to when you get that far, @retroedHe looks so god damn bad ass as well, what with his creepy human like teeth.

I helped a few friends catch up last night so had a couple of fights against the Puki Puki and the Barroth, as well as a few investigations. Completely agree with @Blakey and everyone else - with a group of mates this thing comes into it's own. My favourite moment last night was when we were chasing a Puki and I was slightly ahead of everyone else. Kicked a Paratoad and watched everyone run around the corner right into it.

I'm starting to get comfortable with the great sword as well. Managing to chain my combo's together to do some hefty damage with the last part of the charge combo. Bit of monster research taught me that Barroth's mud armour could be knocked off with a water based weapon so i've geared up with a water based great sword and can now fuck him up.

Here's hoping that World's success will convince them to release an English language version of XX on the Switch.

Sounds good.

I did a couple more quests this morning. Used the SOS feature which works well, and I soon had three others in my game hacking away. It's just cool seeing other people doing their thing in your game, not had an experience like this since Bloodborne. I sent them my Guild cards but don't think they sent theirs.

I've pretty much maxed out my bone armour, not seen anything else that takes my fancy yet. I could do with upgrading my weaponry soon, but seem to be managing OK at the moment.

It would be nice if it was easier to invite people to the squad. I think only Blakey can, and has to be online when the other person is to invite them?

Yeah, they need to make it so that anyone in the group can invite. Not everyone can get online at the same time as @Blakey so you have these instances of sliding doors where there's people on all the time, but you need to be on when He's on and be in the same lobby for an invite to land.

Once you get it though, it's a case of jumping into the game, setting the MFGamers room and if there's one open you join and it not you open one for people to join. @Blakey should be on tonight late on so keep an eye out for him there and try to meet up so you can become part of the squad.

I've been in the squad since launch, but there's only four of us in there at the moment I think. It would make sense if there was a way to promote other people to be admin, as you can have up to 50 people in a squad.
