That's another episode recorded. Picked the Empire for the Civil War. What should I go for next?

  1. Attempt a visit on the Greybeards to learn more about shouts (Main quest)
  2. Fight the Civil War on the Empires side for a mission or so.
  3. Attempt to do a guild. (you pick which guild I go for).
  4. Attempt to recruit Inigo.
  5. Do something else on your recommendation.

Last night marked the beginning of Dave Blaine's adventures in Skyrim, in his quest to become the greatest magician in Tamriel. His main goals, to use magic wherever possible, and to prioritise the search and retrieval of magical trinkets and to be the biggest arsehole in Skyrim.

I've enabled several mods, including Phendrix Magic Evolved - which adds over 300 new spells to the game.

After siding with Ralof and setting a few imperial guards on fire, I managed to get my hands on an electricity spell and a necklace that granted extra resistance to frost right from the get go. "Hold up. There's a bear just ahead. See her? I'd rather not tangle with her right now. We might be able to sneak by." Says Ralof.

Nonsense Ralof - it's time for a little magic. I zapped the bear then hid behind him as he fought the bear off.

A little while later in Riverwood, I stumble across a quest to retrieve a gold dragons claw. Sounds magical so i'm in. Managed to find a new spell which lets me make anything under level three attack anything in sight, so it's time to give the good people of Riverwood a little magic show. See this chicken here? ZAP - the chicken goes berserk and attacks the nearest man he see's, a brute of a farmer who quickly dispatches the chicken, and turns his attention to me. I'm chased out of Riverwood and up the mountain where a scuffle breaks out between me, some bandits and the farming folk. I'm saved by legging it up a tower and standing on top. Couple of zaps to the remaining bandits (RIP farmers, you must of really been attached to that chicken) and i'm on my way.

After delving into the barrow, i've levelled up and now Dave can duel wield lightning to do more damage. I've also found some robes that let me recharge magic quicker so i'm now a walking Tesla coil. Getting into the habit of saying 'magic' out loud every time I kill someone/something, much to my wife's disgust.

I find some chap webbed up who needs assistance. At this point I feel it's time to break out Dave's legendary awkward silence, so I engage him in conversation, and leave him standing and staring at the man whilst I make a cup of tea.

More fighting and zapping, and i'm out. It's time to piss off the people of Whiterun.

Pretty sure TM would be perfect Dark Brotherhood material.

"The Dark Brotherhood is called upon by those who wish to utilize their deadly services through a ritual called "The Black Sacrament", although to join the organization, one must be contacted directly. They were once the most feared organization in all of Tamriel, but have lost their reputation over time due to the destruction of multiple sanctuaries across Tamriel."

Doesn't sound too dissimilar to the Tory Party.

Continued my session with dangerous Dave last night. Didn't spend too long in Whiterun, although I did beat the dragon and collect my reward, as well as an Archmage ring (mod - gives you a fuck-ton of magika). Dave doesn't care how he get's his glory. It also means the Fury spell (which turns any animal below level 6 into a frenzied killer, and was also costly to use) can now be used with sweet abandon. I've also started force pushing (or whatever the dragon shout is called) any woman I see. Because MAGIC.

My initial idea was to head straight to the mage's college, but seems you HAVE to visit the grey beards first. So off I went. Only problem is I kept finding caves, one of which was a vampire hideout. Made easy work of them but turns out i'm now a vampire. On exiting the cave I passes a hunter and his horse, and was attacked shortly after by a troop of travelling elves escorting a prisoner. Magic time. I turned the horse on them - was quite an impressive sight seeing horse versus warlock, but me, Lydia and the horse won, though his owner wasn't too pleased. And the horse soon turned his attention on us. Almost felt sorry for the hunter as we killed his horse in front of him. He pleaded for mercy, and I was going to let him live, but as he ran Lydia buried an axe in his head. Cold Lydia, cold.

Met an old man at the bottom of the steps to see the greybeards. Wanted help carrying some goods up as his legs aren't what they used to be. Told him I couldn't help him and carried on up the stairs anyway. Dave Blaine doesn't have time for your petty errands old man.

It's late, I know. I'll try and get the next few episodes out a bit quicker. One per month isn't enough. There's coarse language from the off, so it's very NSFW.

This is happening again. No real world characters being roleplayed this time around. I did play for 8 hours yesterday until this morning when a lot of you were getting dragged up by the kids. Feel free to drop by and watch me stream it, if you're so inclined.

What's your 'normal' sleep cycle at the moment sly?

My kids have been conditioned into getting out of bed at 7:05 every morning. If I'm super lucky sometimes I get to sleep in until half 7.

I've never played Skyrim...

The bits where I have existential crisis and anxiety? They never stop.

In seriousness. I sleep between about 3am and 7am, which is usually enough.

Spent a massive chunk of my day on this.

Breezehome is fully furnished. Usually I get this by glitching the fuck out of it, but I paid for it all legitimately this time around.

I bought a horse. I think this might be the first time ever I've actually bought a horse in game. I call her Hendo and she's a lovely ride.

For some reason I am learning to whistle. I paid a guard to teach me to whistle and it was a con. Bastard.

I raised my speechcraft to a point were I can busk and get a bit of extra gold. Which is nice.

Shouting refills my stuff. The new modded skill trees are lovely for stuff like that.

I'm slowly getting my head around the camping and survival part of the game. It appears you can level up the camping although I'm not entirely sure how it works. At some point I'm going to have to go up the main quest mountain and that is cold as fuck. I don't think I'll make it to the top on foot since I'll freeze before I get tot he top. I did buy a horse with the idea of legging it up there much faster than my own legs would carry me, but if that fails I still have the ability to fire up a camp if I need to stay warm. I think the tent I have is made for wet weather over cold weather though, so I'll probably have to craft a tent from furs maybe. I don't know. I guess I'll find out.

With mods this game is fucking ridiculous really. There's a lot of stuff I've repeated, but for every but I've done over and over I've done 2 or 3 things I've never seen. I've not really ventured into the super cold areas yet either, so it's going to be interesting to see what awaits me there.

I went to go see the old shouty fucks on the top of the mountain to learn the way of the Voice. This time thought it started raining, because fuck me, and also a dragon decided to crash the party. After fighting the frost troll I really started to feel the bite from exposure so jumped on Hendo and rode her to safety.

Anyway, I have gone about my business and now I am part of the thieves guild. I don't know how or why I got here, but here I am and I'm about to rob some fuckers blind, and maybe kill them as well. I don't have time for the stealthing.

I tried to stealth initially, but thought fuck this, I'm just going to kill them. When I got around to burning the beehives a dragon showed up and caused a bit of a ruckus. It was a complete clusterfuck of RNG lobbing dick shaped problems at me. I did it though, because I am awesome.

I opened the first fence up in Whiterun. Mainly I'm just going to sell my general junk there, if the occasional stolen item goes through the line then that's fine. I just want a vendor that has a big stash of gold within proximity so I can get rid of looted gear.

I got bored of being where I was and journeyed down to Falkreath because I got a letter. I got sent on a journey and made a fuck up by 1. Not taking Hendo with me and 2. Forgetting I had quest markers lit and travelling across the land where I need not. I got myself back on track and cut right across and killed some dude. I then got lost trying to trek around a mountain and got into a huge battle with the Forsworn. This culminated in a fight against two Hagravens and some reanimated corpses. I then got pushed to my death by Lydia, who was being a complete twat about getting in the way.

A new hand touched the beacon and then I was on my way. I nearly got killed by a bear. I killed the enemy I was looking for and mined a load of ore. I met a chatty cat in Blades armour in the weirdest place and then finally when I got back to the town I was reunited with my horse. I missed you, Hendo. Let's never be apart again.

Also I started building a house. It's my second property, although can it really be called a property when it doesn't have doors on it?

I dicked about a fair bit today, going too and fro. Spent a lot of time going backwards and forwards between the Rift, Falkreath and Whiterun.. I'm starting to be pushed towards the Reach and Haafingar, the latter of which I think is quite cold. It's not exactly Winterhold, but It's going to be a step up in terms of how I deal with freezing my bollocks off. Needless to say I'll be taking a lot of firewood with me.

Really last session was pretty uneventful. I got caught stealing a few times, but the one time I was apprehended I think because I was in The Rift I got away with it because of Thieves Guild affiliation. I'm not entirely sure. I'm going to have to be more careful to when I decide to steal shit because having to pay the guards off can get expensive quickly.

The main meat of this post is going to be the story of one of the dragons I had a bounty on. I put it off a few times because this particular dragon is a fucking pain in the arse to get to. It was the closest mission I'd not done at the time and I was just down the road from it so I decided to go about it. In typical Skyrim fashion I decided to ride Hendo at a 90° up the mountain, Lydia got left behind. No problems really, She gets lost all the time and then in the midst of battle will run in and save the day.. When I got to the dragon that needed to be slain it kicked off and Hendo ran off a cliff face to get out the way and I thought I'd lost her for good. I fought and fought the dragon, I had a few close calls but eventually it died to my own hands. After I looted the corpse, the chest and the wall it protected I was over encumbered. No problem. Hendo or Lydia will be here soon. I whistle and Hendo came running so I loaded all my hard earned winnings into her bags. Then I waited. And waited. Lydia had to come back at some point, didn't she? I built a fire to stay warm and set up camp. Surely she would be waiting for me when I woke up?

I woke up to disappointment. Lydia was not there to greet me when I awoke. She was gone. Maybe the Dragon got her while I was cowering behind cover. I don't know. All I did know is that Lydia was MIA. I did a quick search to see if I could find her body. It was all in vain. She was lost.

To make matters worse the only way back to civilisation was through a cave. Guess what's not allowed in caves? Hendo's. I weight up trying to scale down the cliff face on her and decided against it. I had to abandon Hendo. When I got through the cave I whistled to call her to me. She never came. Neither did Lydia. It was a long walk back to Riften, One where I questioned my decisions to cut the mountains and lose the two things that meant the most to me. I went and handed my quests in and was told I was needed back in Whiterun. Going on foot from Riften to Whiterun? Fuck that. I'll pay the 20 gold and be taken there by horse drawn carriage.

The carriage pulled into a twilight Whiterun, the northern lights cascading across the sky. I stepped off the carriage and who's waiting for me? Lydia and Hendo. We were reunited! The first thing I did? Broke Hendo's back by giving her 20 odd irons ores to carry. Good horsey, such loyalty to her brilliant owner. Lydia I'd already contemplated who was going to step into her shoes, there's lots of NPC followers. There's only one Hendo though. A wonderful dependable mare.

I'm coming to the end of my festive playthrough now. I've seen tons of stuff I've never seen before and I still get surprised when I find out stuff like Ysolda being Whiterun's underworld drug pusher. I think I've gotten my head around the whole cold thing as well, I've walked up and down the path to see the Greybeards a few times now without nearly dying to exposure. It just needs levelling up, however I don't know specifically what contributes to giving you camp fire perk points.

I've really enjoyed the whole 2 handed light armour wearing style of play too, working my way through the modded skill trees, and although I didn't do it this time I've contemplated other ways to play the game that I've never ever done before. In previous years playing I've gone down tried and tested paths such as mages, necromancers, sword and shield warriors, spell swords, but I can totally see more paths such as paladins, unarmed, thief's, rangers, battlemages, nightblades and of course the stealth archer, which I have never ever done in Skyrim. There's still plenty of scope to branch out into, it's a game that depending on how focused your resolve is on leaning on those play styles you like to rely on you could have endless fun with trying out new classes and gearing them out.

It's just been over 7 years since Skyrim originally launched and I witnessed something today that I've never ever seen happen. No mods were involved in this, it just sort of either happened legitimately or the vanilla code bugged and made it happen. Whatever the cause, I have never ever seen a walled city get attacked by a dragon. Here's the one I slayed in Riften when it just decided to roll up and start trying to eat people.

I've thoroughly enjoyed my last few sessions, especially the streamed ones where people have come to chat about what I'm doing.

Also cast your eyes over this. Some fucking beautiful scenes in this game despite it being pretty old in gaming terms.
