Assassin's Creed Origins

Recommended Posts

Mucked about with the Discovery mode on this earlier, it's not something I was overly looking forward to and I only did what was needed for the achievements that were tied to it.

It's straight forward enough, pick a tour (there's 75 of them:blink:) follow the trail along the points and listen to the narrator... or leg it through as fast as possible if you're anything like me.

Although I wasn't overly interested I will say it definitely rammed home just how much thought went into this thing and the details of the open world... It's given me a new found respect for how much time and effort go in to these things and a lot of the time some of these can fly straight over my head.

This was a hard game to get in to after God of War. It has a similar button layout but everything felt so floaty and impresice after the ditrect combat of GoW. And I HATED the mouse style menu control.

But, it didn't take long to acclimatise, the opening mission is quite poor but once you get above ground and discover what this game is shit gets better.

I'm in to it right now, like balls deep. Just hit Level 11, got re-united with Aya who is hot and just happy to bumble about doing the millions of things this game wants you to do.

45 hours later...

Im done with the main quest and I think with the game. I enjoyed most of my time with it, I did get a little bored here and there but that may have been my fault for binge playing. Although the gameplay loop can get repetitive. Yet that’s also what hooks me in...

I like Byek, he’s cool as fuck. And Aya is super badass, I liked their relationship, it was well done I thought.

There’s still a decent amount left to do but I feel content with what I’ve played. That’s new to me, I normally bum these games to death but this is fucking huge and 45 hours is enough when one has so many games to play.

I respect the team for trying something different though. Looks like Odyssey will be different again - keep it moving.

I've started this, I'm probably 7 or so hours in. I'm in the 2nd area, I've got a mission to meet up with my wife, I should probably go and do that but I've been syncing towers and doing a few side missions. I'm not sure what level I am, I've just been letting the levelling up happen and adding skill points in bulk. The next thing I'm buying is the one to control the predator arrows

Byak is more smiley than I was expecting, he's less brooding than I was expecting, I suppose there's plenty of time for that to happen. I'm enjoying it, my only issue really is that it can be a bit of a trek to get around

I somehow failed a mission I didn't even know I was on. There's been a couple of times where I've started a mission but the game hasn't pointed me in the right direction until I've gone and reselected it. Like, there was one where I had to find a book for an old man, I ended up following him back to his house where he went to bed because the next step of the quest didn't appear on my hud. It might be less a bug or even broken design, and just be that you can pick up a bunch and do them as and when you're near them

Played a lot of third now, I'm about 50% through according to the stats but I'm not sure if that's counting everything or just the story. I've got 1 person on the 2nd rung to kill, I should probably focus on the story missions more than I should

I've killer 3 of the bounty hunters too. I've not fought any of the higher level ones yet. They're still strong even if they're around your level, if you can get them off their horse they aren't too difficult.

I'm surprised I'm not more bored of it than I am. I've played a lot of it in a short time and it really does fall in to a gameplay loop. I don't want to overdose on it so I'm prepared to put it down at some point, but I don't want to leave a daunting amount to do because I'd like to finish it, it's a cool game.

I really liked the snake mission I've just done, nice to see the game mix things up, I wasn't expecting that shift but I'm glad it happened

Unsurprisingly, I'm incredible impressed by it. Spent awhile messing around the bountiful graphical settings on PC and found that my rig can run it at 1440p/60fps with ultra settings without any trouble whatsoever, and let me tell you, it looks FUCKING PHENOMENAL.

what's your computer, specifically cpu I guess. I've got a GTX 1080 and an i7-3770, running the game off an SSD. Outside of towns I can get 60fps on pretty much any setting at up to 4k, when I get near a town my frame rate drops. Sometimes it's just to 55, some times it's in to the 40s, even at 1440p on a mix of high and very high settings.

It's a cpu heavy game, and reading the net it seems like a lot of people have the same issue, but then some people have no issues whatsoever

I did get the HDR working on pc though, that's pretty cool. I might just go back to playing on my monitor at 1080p to get a more solid framerate

Was running off HDD, GTX 1080, i7-4790k @DANGERMAN.

I think I had to turn a few things down down to get an almost stable 60, I can’t remember what they were now, I still got dips in sandstorms and towns though from memory but it was mostly good.

Finished, and I'm kind of glad to be done with it. Not that it's ever a bad game, but I opened up the end chapters of the game (there's a 'point of no return' for a mission where you speak to Aya), there's a long walk through a new area, along the way I was seeing encampments, and mission after mission, and my heart sank a bit. I put 45 hours or so in to it, so it's largely a problem of time spent than a huge flaw of the game, but I just couldn't be fucked with all that was left so I just mainlined the story missions. Typically when it ended it fely like it had come a bit soon and I would have happily done another couple of missions, maybe I still will, but I also kind of don't care

It's not a game of highs and lows, I'm not a huge fan of the boat stuff, but even that is fine. It's a really, really well made game, but it's all very indistinguishable from itself, one mission could be any other mission more or less. It's not a game that pulls you along, it instead keeps you playing by giving you another breadcrumb to follow, there's always something else to do.

I've still got a few of the bounty hunters to kill, still a few places undiscovered, and plenty of side missions. I suspect I'd just go and play one of the other Assassin's Creed games rather than go back and fully complete this. Maybe when I get a new CPU, this will be the test game, and that will give me the excuse to spend some more hours here
