Really want this as my kids will dig it, but might wait until I get a Switch so I have something to play on it better than Mario Odyssey

Yeah, it seems perfect for the Switch, but it also keeps making me want to post about how shit the "d-pad" is on the Switch, because it's fucking awful

I'm not here to say the direction buttons on the Switch are good because they're not, and I'd buy a left Joycon with a proper d-pad in a heartbeat.  But after playing this and Blaster Master Zero a lot I'm quite a bit less annoyed by them than I'd thought I'd be.

But I'm still going nowhere near Ultra Street Fighter II or all those SNK fighting games on the eShop.  That's not a line I'm crossing.

Only just got the chance to play again last night so I did the Flying Battery Zone. I thought this would be the place I would put it down and decide it wasn't for me, how ever I took my time and bumbled through the level and I actually quite enjoyed it, especially the boss at the end.

I've made this mistake before, assuming Sonic must be played at a million miles an hour. Not playing it that way feels counter intuitive but it certainly seems it's the way this game should be played.

I was super tired so I turned it off at the start of the *Labyrinth* Zone but progress has been made.

Having to play Sonic fast is a bit of a misconception.  I'm stopping often to try and figure out how to get to a place I can see even if it means doubling back or using nearby ramps or whatever.  In not always easy to get into exploring in Sonic games but it is part of the gameplay.

Though I don't think Sonic Mania is as good at the exploring side of things than Sonic & Knuckles, which probably did it best.  I noticed this on my Knuckles run which I just finished because his powers are based around exploring and going places where Sonic couldn't go often leads to dead ends so it's like all these levels are just designed for Sonic unlike the levels in S&K which felt like they incorporated Knuckles' gameplay better, which even Sonic 3 had to a lesser extent.  So that was a little disappointing.

But it's not like Knuckles in Sonic 2 which was just a broke the game and was a total giggle.

Managed to beat the bit I was stuck on - totally didn't see that a bit of the wall was missing.

I'm doing pretty rubbish on this run though, only one emerald and failing each time I do the blue dot bonus stages.

So I've got all the Emeralds and finished the game.  Quite disappointed in the true ending to be honest.  It's no Doomsday Zone from S3&K.

Also got all golds on the blue sphere bonus stages but to be honest I looked up how to perfect the last one on YouTube.  I had the right idea myself but didn't expect it to be so obtuse.

I loved it but I'm kinda done with it now unless I decide to get all the emeralds with Knuckles and Tails one day.

I've been sighing my way through this. I hate to frown on a forum darling but it's just not for me. It feels like the game knows when I'm having a bad time and goes out of it's way to make sure other bad things happen to me, like it knows I don't like it and it loves it.

I died on the Level 2 boss of Press Garden Zone and knew if I put it down I may not pick it up again so I forced myself through the first stage again and pounded the second boss second time around. I did like the look of PGZ2 though, the snow made it look really cool.

Stardust Speedway wasn't much fun, nor was the Zone 2 boss. That made way for Hyrdrocity Zone and I just cant' take a water zone right now. I want to beat it for the sake of beating it (and I do like those bonus levels) but I'm playing it for the sake of it, not for the fun of it.

Got throught the next two zones. Hydrocity Zone was better than I thought and the music was particularly awesome. I was fucking glad to get through it first go, couldn't see myself doing it again if I died on the boss. Then the next zone (Mirage Saloon) was a game of two halves, I actually preffered the plane ride to the Casino part. Both bosses were piss easy.

Oily Ocean Zone next. Maybe next week.

I lost all my lives on the Oily Ocean Zone 2 boss. Twice. Unpredictabley so, I don't know what kills me and what doesn't. I had 7 rings and had an instant death when I fell in the oil. Then, later, I had no rings and survived in the oil long enough to piss about for a bit before getting back on to a platform.

The worst part is that I have to do both zones again and I think it's a particularly shit couple of levels. I'm not as mad as I could be, maybe its because I'm slowly being driven insane by insomnia but I really want to watch a video of my boss fight with the developers so I can shout at them and tell them what cunts they are.

I want to punish this game by not playing it anymore but it won't care.
