Maf Posted August 23, 2025 Posted August 23, 2025 I swear to god I'm playing the new Mafia game on my PC, I am maybe sitting 2ft away from the PC with two windows open and I am sweating lol. If/when I ever get another PC I'm decking this shit out with every cooling system and fan that can be jammed in to it The game takes place in Sicily. I feel deeply immersed
one-armed dwarf Posted August 23, 2025 Posted August 23, 2025 I know this feel, but the real play here isn't to increase airflow and pump out more hot bullshit, but to play on low settings and lock the framerate.
Sly Reflex Posted August 23, 2025 Posted August 23, 2025 One of my Canadian friends is on about venting his PC outside during summer months.

I know someone who used to point the back of his PC out of a window. I'm sure I knew of someone on a forum who put there's outside during the winter to get more performance out of it too, but I'm not sure the logistics of that
Sly Reflex Posted August 24, 2025 Posted August 24, 2025 I think he was going to 3D print some stuff and exhaust it all out so the heat wasn't circulating his room. Which is the main thing people are complaining about. Added bonus of venting the print fumes also. Although I don't really get it myself, not do I get the people not using PC and using the consoles instead. They're all going to get hot, they are designed to get hot and take a lot of heat before failing. You would have to run something to ungodly ends to ruin it. Playing a few hours of Cyperpunk isn't going to do it. If it is going to go bang it's going to go bang no matter what load you put on it, because it's defective. You probably get more warmer wearing the headset than you do from the electronics themselves, unless you are playing in a shoebox.
one-armed dwarf Posted December 17, 2025 Posted December 17, 2025 https://overclock3d.net/news/gpu-displays/nvidia-plans-heavy-cuts-to-gpu-supply-in-early-2026/ I feel like I built the big dick PC at the perfect moment, no need to upgrade for years and years and nothing worth upgrading to anyway Forcing people to buy lower VRAM models is a big problem though cause VRAM is one of those things that's hard to just turn the settings down and push through, certain games straight up just don't work properly without high VRAM, like a lot of the ID Tech stuff like Indiana Jones and Doom the Dark Ages
DANGERMAN Posted December 17, 2025 Posted December 17, 2025 I was chatting to @spatular the other week and we were both saying the same thing. If I could go back I'd maybe spend a bit more and get a card with 16gb Vram, but everything else I think I did absolutely the right thing. And even then, by the time the RTX 5070 is a problem I think I'd have been looking to upgrade anyway Biggest thing is going to be if I want to buy a new laptop in a year or so, that's going to be rough. I can't see me getting a huge upgrade for the price
one-armed dwarf Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 https://www.resetera.com/threads/newsis-consumer-gpus-to-increase-in-price-next-year-rtx-5090-to-increase-from-2000-to-5000.1394815/ A rather steep increase on the 5090 Quote the RTX 5090, was released at the beginning of this year at $1,999 (KRW 2.86 million), but it is expected to soar to $5,000 (KRW 7.15 million) next year. Steve at gamer nexus had a video where he compared the current state of gaming hardware, not just PC but gaming in general including consoles, to like the housing market and the way private equity have priced generations out of ownership. That companies like nvidia could be looking to do this and make stuff like geforce now the default If that's the way things go, then this is the stop I get off at when it comes to buying new hardware, though given I more and more play games that are decades old maybe that'll be just fine.
Sly Reflex Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 You will own nothing and be happy with it.
mfnick Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 I’m How does gaming hardware continue at that point? Not even talking about future generations, how do even the current consoles not increase to unobtainable prices within the next year? Cloud gaming? We know a lot of companies would prefer us to use that. Maybe this is what forces it? Or maybe people like us are a dead market. Always told how people are playing older games or that we’re nothing compared to the Roblox, Fortnite, gacha etc. spenders. As long as people can access those what’s it matter to them? Maybe it’ll sort itself out eventually but it’s bleak AF. Do we think Valve may have to pull out of making the Steam Machine at this rate? I don’t see how you can bring something like that to market anymore. Tariffs were bad enough, this is on a whole other planet.
Sly Reflex Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 I am hoping the bubble pops eventually. once they realise that they are throwing money around in a circle and nothing is invested that shit collapses. It's happened loads of times before with shit like this where they circlejerk money around making it look like there's a lot of call for whatever they are selling. Dot.com bust, NFT's bust, hopefully this AI shit ends up busting as well. Because if it's not going to bust, then we can all get used to paying £1000+ for the basic versions of consoles and even more for PC. As for the Steam box. Honestly, fuck knows. It might be sky high, but at the same time you think that the nextbox (even if there is one) and PS6 will be any cheaper? 1
mfnick Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 AI is on a different level to NFTs and the like though. The amount of money poured into it already means they’ll force it to work no matter what. & every business is already using it. & the vast majority of “normal” people are too. Someone at work today just told me how he uses ChatGPT to fix his AV Receiver. Google would have done the same but ChatGPT has already become a new kind of default. 46 minutes ago, Sly Reflex said: As for the Steam box. Honestly, fuck knows. Maybe delay it and hope things sort themselves out with RAM & GPU’s. Or they might just have to cut their losses with it. & if things carry on as they are I’d say the same about the PS6. As I said earlier I don’t even know how they can continue to sell the PS5 if things don’t improve. That market is dead if it continues.
