Star Wars

Recommended Posts

Im a little bit bummed out that they are saying 'no more movies, we are doing TV for a bit now' because I feel like the movies have massively under-delivered and Id like them to sort it out. Its a bit like theyve fucked it up and they just arent going to fix it.

Honestly I’m fine with that.

The reason Star Wars was so special is because there was a good 10/15 years between trilogies.

A new Star Wars movie felt like an event, but the Marvel approach kind of diluted it. Granted, I loved Rogue One and thought Solo was fine, but they were unnecessary side stories. I’m glad Solo “failed” (£700+ million is not a failure, but internet’s gotta internet) and Disney decided to change there approach.

The Star Wars universe is one I feel will benefit from long form televised storytelling, The Clone Wars and Rebels are proof of that, and throwing out a well thought out developed event movie every couple of years is definitely the way to go.

I think this Star Wars trilogy has suffered because the lack of a plan. The MCU has it’s faults to be sure but over double the amount of movies in such far less time than Star Wars and people keep coming back to it because it’s measured and there’s always a clear direction and no single Marvel film feels like fan service or it exists because fuck it. I don’t even know what this new SW film is about. Apart from the fact they don’t like each other, I’m not even really sure what Rey and Kylo are fighting over. Like they never answered convincingly enough why the galaxy was still in danger between Ep 6 and Ep7. Wasn’t it over? Each to their own but for me a big reason why these films just aren’t delivering because I don’t understand from a story perspective why and I’m not convinced the films do either. I didn’t catch it first time in the new trailer but when they show the broken Death Star it’s like Noooo we did this. Like a million times we did this.

The lack of a plan or through line I think is what makes Star Wars feel very superficial. I mean i don’t like the prequels either but at least they were somewhat consistent in direction and plot points (Mostly stupid ones, but still)

EDIT: On a re-read that sounds hugely negative. I don’t mean to be. I like Star Wars. Just these films are under delivering, they are not bad necessarily

I always think with Star Wars, how many films have they done now and they're all about the events of the first film. The only people who matter in the galaxy are related in some way to the same 3 or 4 people, and in all that space, against literally impossible odds, they all happen to be in the right place at the right time, over and over and over again. I'm not surprised the gloss has worn off, especially as there's a Star Wars film every year now

Bob Iger came out and said IX is going to be the last movie for a while sometime last year. Something about realising one a year was the completely wrong approach for Star Wars. Better late than never I guess.

Just watching the Phantom Menace panel at Celebration, it’s a lot of fun.

I love that video. It’s doing the rounds on twitter because some Instagram Trump woman is slagging it off and insulting the Star Wars fandom.

RLM have been awful the last few years since it occurred to them movies are made by businesses and have an attitude towards them I last saw around music in 6th form.

Best of the Worst is still good, though.

I'd do a big post explaining why it very much is true but I'm still without a properly working laptop so maybe I'll do it some other time.

I like the one show they have usually with Jay and some other balding bloke where they talk about older movies like the one they did for all the Psycho movies and they aren't just memeing it up.

However I do like their pisstake of those awful comic nerd podcast features where they have a desk full of memorabilia and are trying too hard to be bought out hype merchants.

Decided to jump on the Audible free trial yesterday with Thrawn.

Enjoying it so far but I’m listening to it before sleeping so have to wind it back because I keep missing parts.

Then I’d reply with why it’s not and we wouldn’t be anywhere so it’s ok.

We're all going nowhere so I might as well have some fun dunking on RLM (or at least HitB).

Has anyone posted this?

Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy recently confirmed the production company is thinking about developing something related to BioWare’s classic role-playing game “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.”

“Knights of the Old Republic, a lot of fans want to see that, is there any development of that?” MTV reporter Josh Horowitz asked Kennedy during Star Wars Celebration last weekend.

“You know, we talk about that all the time,” Kennedy said. “Yes, we are developing something to look at. Right now, I have no idea where things might fall, but we have to be careful that there is a cadence to Star Wars that doesn’t start to feel like too much. We don’t have a crystal ball, you know, we tried a little bit with ‘Solo’ to see if we could do two movies a year and whether or not there really was an opportunity for that, and we felt that’s not going to work. So, we back off of that a little bit. But it doesn’t mean we don’t think about lots of different stories, because that’s the exciting thing about this universe.”

“Knights of the Old Republic” was first published by LucasArts in 2003 and is widely considered one of the best role-playing games of all time. It takes place about 4,000 years before the founding of the Galactic Empire. A Sith Lord named Darth Malak has unleashed an armada against the Republic, and the player is a Jedi tasked with stopping him. A sequel developed by Obsidian Entertainment released in 2004. Both are still available today on PC in places like Steam and GOG.com, as well as on iOS and Android.

If a “KotOR” project is going on at Lucasfilm, it’s likely in the very early stages, or it might just be a pitch, judging by Kennedy’s vague comments. But, it’s also worth noting that director Rian Johnson and “Game of Thrones” showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are planning new “Star Wars” trilogies. While Johnson has already confirmed his trilogy won’t involve the Old Republic, no one knows when or where Benioff and Weiss’ project will take place.

If this is true I hope they don't fuck it up.
