Star Wars

I didn't realise this much thought had gone into Episodes 7-9. For some reason, I thought the original pitch simply resulted in the Thrawn Trilogy...

there's some horrendous writing, a lot of it actually, in fact it's almost exclusively bad. There's some pretty bad acting too, a couple of actors are bad all the way through.

However, the final episode has some really good bits in. It has a really stupid bit in too, but the good bit is the best Star Wars thing in a very, very long time

Yeah, that was the issue with Book of Boba Fett (aside from certain episodes) throughout as well. It feels as though even though the budgets are big they aren’t big enough for a lot of ‘movie’ actors and writers so to speak, so the acting and writing suffer because of it. So instead of watching something of a certain production value and level of acting it’s like watching something like Burn Notice at times.

Still definitely worth a watch I’d say though @one-armed dwarf but there’s nothing essential in there aside from maybe the first and last episodes. If you’ve watched Clone Wars and Rebels you’ll get more out of it (I’ve only seen the former) as well.

I enjoyed it for the most part, but it was a little clunky and uneven. Kid Leia was good and I like McGregor as Obi-Wan so it's good seeing him do something better than the prequels. The main issue I have is the more stuff they cram in that small gap between the prequels and original trilogy, the more it makes the original trilogy seem implausible.

Like, I don't think this is spoilers, unless you've never seen New Hope, but when Luke comes back with Ben to find Owen and Beru have been killed, he just fucks off on a merry space adventure. Now we've seen him being raised by them from a baby, it just highlights how little sense that makes. I dunno, it's Star Wars, probably best not to over think it.

James Earl Jones retires as voice of Darth Vader

Quote

James Earl Jones – one of the most distinctive voices in the history of film – appears to have made steps to step back from voicing the Star Wars character, Darth Vader, after nearly 40 years in the role.

Vanity Fair reports that the actor, aged 91, has signed over the rights to his voice to filmmakers using new AI, technology, Matthew Wood of Lucasfilm told the magazine that the actor “wished to keep Vader alive”

“He had mentioned he was looking into winding down this particular character,” Wood told Vanity Fair. “So how do we move forward?”

Earl Jones made his debut as the legendary Star Wars villain in the 1977 film, and followed this up with voicing the same character throughout the franchise up to this point on both the big and small screen. He most recently starred as the character for the new Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+.

While actor David Prowse dressed in the distinctive black uniform of the Sith Lord for the original films, it was Earl Jones who provided the unique deep tones of the complex Vader.

Besides his work on the sci-fi epic, Earl Jones is a celebrated EGOT. He received an honorary Academy Award in 2011, having been nominated for Best Actor in the 1970 The Great White Hope.

Other stars from the franchise have made a return to the franchise in recent years. Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen and Mark Hamill have all reprised their characters, much to the delight of fans. But it seems one of the most distinctive actors of all is finally signing off.

I'm gonna say it, I think Andor is better than The Mandalorian.

The whole series has been absolutely amazing with a re-introduction to Andor in Episode 1 kicking off a gradual buildup to an event that culminates in an amazing, tense episode long set-piece in Ep. 3.

Then from Ep. 4 onwards a different mini-arc begins which which is just as good if not better than the first 3 episodes', another gradual buildup to a huge set-piece in Episode 6. Ep. 6 itself is one of the best Star Wars things probably since The Last Jedi (or TFA if you hate that film).

It is just absolutely phenomenal and a microcosm of everything I love about Star Wars summed up in an episode, it had everything. Stakes, heart, emotion, action, sci-fi shenanigans, everything.

I think what helps the series a lot and makes it feel like the OG trilogy is the use of only practical sets and effects with no/minimal blue/green screen use and no use of the LED-screen tech The Mandalorian uses.
