HandsomeDead
This is the new one from Vlambeer, the Super Crate Box and Ridiculous Fishing folks. You're lucky I'm here telling you about it because I have been pounding this game the last 24 hours. It's an arcade shooter in the style of Asteroids but there is so much more going on. The enemies are cunts, there are bullets everywhere and you have loads of types of plane that can massively change how you play. The playing field is leveled by you having regen health when you're not firing, but it's really easy to get caught out when trying to get one guy on your tail; it's one of those risk/reward mechanics done really well which I think Vlambeer have a really good hold on, what with this and Ridiculous Fishing. And then there is the plane building thing. Planes atre made up of three bits and there are about six of each which can be combo'd together in any way: there are laser guns, homing rockets, high impact armour, a body that automatically drops bombs, an engine that lets you go under water with taking damage and stuff like that. I feel like some combos are just plain useless (lol) but there are missions attached to (like kill so many fighters, or sink a ship while maintaining max combo) so it's worth seeing what you can do with the dumb combos even if you're not ever likely to get your high score. And it's probably more about doing these missions than getting the best score, it's the thing that keeps you coming back more (though I have a pretty sweet score ) But that's just all guff. It just feels real nice to play. The speed, the responsiveness, just how it's all balanced in how much punishment you can take, all the acrobatics you can do that aren't hard to pull off; it's just a real nice feeling game and polished to a shine. Get it, it's ace.
Uncle Dokuro
I've been play this for the past 48hrs and It's fucken ace. The nuke sweet sweet payback. I really can't add much outside what D Class has already said. EDIT: Funny right after I posted this I switched back to my Steam client and noticed I just downloaded something. Turns out to be a 2.5mb Luftrausers patch not sure for what though.
HandsomeDead
Maybe not many will buy it now but I suspect people maybe well when it's a quid in the Steam sales. I've been trying it out quite a bit on the Vita and I've ended up playing it quite a lot on that, due to me turning it on to play for 10 mins but ending up playing 90. I could have fucked up but there seems to be no cross-save feature: mission progress and unlocks doesn't carry over so I had to unlock everything again (didn't take long, but still) and I'm quite disappointed at that. High scores carry over at least. So now I'd say I've done more missions on the Vita but my best score was attained on PS3. I think that's because I go for missions more on Vita since it's an easier goal to go for (sometimes). I'd like to be able to kill a blimp legit as I've only managed with the nuke-on-death, which is a bit of a cop-out.
Craymen Edge
I'm quite surprised how long this took to come out, I played it quite a lot at Eurogamer expo in 2012 and 2013. I've always enjoyed it, but don't feel the need to buy it right now.

Yeah, I'd like to try it as everyone who's played it seems to like it, but watching some videos I think it looks rubbish, so yeah I'll be one of those people. It took Vlambeer three years to make it and it started turning a profit in just three days.
spatular
you can play the flash version here: http://not.vlambeer.com/luftrauser/ i played for about 30 mins trying to decide if i should go for the full version. in the flash version fighting the planes is fun, but fighting the ships is pretty annoying - it seems like your plane has upgrades in the full version which would make fighting the ships less annoying mind. No fighting the ships is still kinda annoying in the full version depending on which parts you choose. There is a body you can unlock that allows you to hover like a UFO that makes it easier, but for the most part I just kamikaze into the ships the fly up to recover health. It's a good time waster and worth the cash. I just wish it had a proper way to exit the game in the Linux version while in full screen. From what I understand the Vita version is more polished .... I should have gotten that version instead of the Linux version.
HandsomeDead
Taking on ships is pretty high level play. You do get a knack for it but maintaining a combo and destroying a ship is a really hard thing to do but something worth doing for big points. The best way to take out ships though is with the Cannon and the Bomb body. I'm really stuck on a mission taking out a battleship with a max combo because it's tied to the Gungine (the engine that fires bullets backwards to fly) but it's really unresponsive and my least favourite engine and I just can't do it... I've done it loads with other planes. And the Homing Missiles can piss off, too. I can't kill 8 boats in a combo with those, especially since homing missiles are the worst thing to use against boats. Oh, and I looked at the flash version and the big version is considerably better.
spatular
this is on sale on psn ~£4.25, (and seemingly loads of people on steam have been gifted 40% vouchers)
AndyKurosaki
Yeah I just got it on my Vita, it is indeed bloody brilliant. Totally worth getting.
illdog
I got this on the PSN sale a while back but loaded it up for the first time on Friday. Its loads of fun like everyone has said but I'm a bit stuck. I just cant seem to get the blimp to spawn. Ive past a mission for encountering one but I didnt bloody see it. So I looked up online and found a video of a dude playing who got one to spawn but he didn't do anything particularly different than I do, score was similar. When watching the video I saw a message pop up in game saying something like "What is that thing.. it takes up the entire sky!". I've have that message pop, so I can only assume Ive encountered a blimp twice and not seen it. Annoying because destroying a blimp is the key to unlocking a couple of missions. I guess I just need to keep keeping on as it were.
HandsomeDead
When I got the blimp to show up I don't think I ever isolated anything that made it appear. There is something of a random element to what spawns when, like Subs and ... gun island things... don't spawn too often either. I think a blimp pretty much always shows eventually if you last long enough, but it's probably down to how many planes and ships you've blown up and a little bit of luck. illdog
Typically I got it next game, took the bastard out with Nuke body so I could be sure to unlock those missions. Ive unlocked SFMT mode too, fuck that's insane.
Craymen Edge
It's a weird game this one. I like the way it looks, the music is awesome, and it feels good to play. But after 5-10 minutes I've had enough, and don't feel I need to play any longer.
spatular
playing this a bit because it's on psn+, i've not been enjoying it at all, but then reading the thread i'd forgotten about how to get health back so will give it another go with this useful knowledge. edit - yeah having more fun with it now.
