Hendo
The first game tagged for a next gen system! Anyway, this is a first person survival horror, much like Amnesia, but in my opinion, not as slow-moving or hard to get into. It has a light mechanic like Amnesia, but it involves using your camcorder as a torch. You use battery power on your camcorder but I've always had at least 3 batteries on the go so far so that doesn't seem to much of a problem. The art style and setting is far more like Condemned and it is grim as fuck. A fair few jump scares so far. I'm playing with a pad in my bedroom with the curtains closed and headphones on and I've literally jumped a few times. I guess I'm coming to the end of the second part and other than one section that I was nearly stuck on and seemingly only got past it by the AI being too stupid to try opening more than one locker to find me, I've been enjoying it massively. There's no combat whatsoever though there is sneaking and some fairly simple puzzles. If you struggle to play scary games, you will poo yourself, because I rarely get affected by them and I've found it the most intense game in a long while. Also the game opens with a warning about gore and sexual content but so far all I've seen is a couple of digital wangs.
Hendo
Gone back to this, nearing the end now I think. I'd recommend it to anyone looking to having the shit scared out of them.
Sambob
Saw a mate playing this, had a few jumps. One bit involved hiding in a locker and some baddie comes in and that seemed scary. One thing I didnt like, and this might just be the genre, is that its very enfeebling, and thats where the scares come from. The problem I had with what I saw and what my mate told me was that eventually its gets very repetative, once the scare factor runs out its basically just a game of run away from X. Hendo
Yeah that's fair, it does lose its flair a little once they clearly show you the enemies. It is tense as fuck though.
hinn888
Completed this round a friends today, it does get rather repetitive towards and you find it less and less scary towards the end. The whole game is pretty damn atmospheric thought and they done bloody well with the sounds, the music alone can freak you the fuck out. Think it was about 7 hours altogether in the end? If you remember everything well, speed runs can shorten that time greatly.
DisturbedSwan
Played and finished the DLC for this yesterday (Whistleblower) in about 2.5 hours. As someone who liked the original for the most part but felt like it ran out of ideas 2-3 hours in and became room after room of hide-and-seek, the shorter length of the DLC was definitely a welcome change. It kind of goes in reverse from the original game, you start in the basement near the turning-men-into-psychos-machine and then eventually have to make your way up through all the chaos that you see in the original game and eventually escape. It feels much more streamlined and doesn't get dragged down anywhere near as much as the original, there are a few hide-and-seek rooms that can get frustrating when you run into a wall and get killed for the 5th time because you couldn't see where to go properly, but for the most part it doesn't dawdle anywhere near as much as the original and has more of a whistlestop tour feel to it which is much more to my liking. So yeah, glad I played it, not sure if I would of if it wasn't included in the Outlast Trinity collection I've got but I enjoyed it and everything that made the original memorable is here in spades.
