Jimboxy
hmm looks pretty good actually. Can't see it being an iphone killer, but a bit of competition never hurt anyone.
Hendo
Wow, having several different apps running at the same time would indeed be very cool on the iPhone. I am impressed but don't want to admit it. Me too man, me too.
pickled
i've got a g1, i rather like it, especially as i've managed to turn it onto a wireless router so i can use my laptop to access my 3g intermaweb, that's pretty cool
Hendo
Of course I'd love that but in actual fact what that thing is running arent app's as such. More like widgets. Nothing process heavy. I dunno, one of them is clearly a web browser and that's more app than widget. I can't tell what the rest are, but if everyone was writing Palm off and then this impressed them, there must be more to it? If it's got cut and paste I'll be very upset. Jimboxy
i'm in two minds about getting an iphone now, i'm tempted by a google phone. The droid which came out recently in America is meant to come the closest to matching the iphone. It'll probably be cheaper than an iphone and google are doing some awesome stuff with android. The down side is i already own a million and one apps for the ipod touch, so an iphone really makes sense from that point of view.
Pikman
Now I own an iPhone and after doing a ton of research I'm pleased with my choice. I just don't think android is quite ready yet. It is awesome from what I have seen but the handsets I wanted look like they'll be expensive and not all running the latest software etc, its werid. When my contract is up I'm sure I'll be torn between the two
pickled
i still love android after a year, plus the new android handsets look lovely, the htc hero in particular seems delightfull, and the rosie/sense os screens which sit on top of the android os are awesome (i've tried running the hero rom on my g1, it's too slow to use on my phone, but ont eh phone it's designed for would be awesome) twitter updates, straight from the desktop, flash weather animations, actual flash in the web browser, amongst other things is very awesome
Pikman
That is very true! It was a fine line for me between the two and it took me a looong time to decide, I only really went with iphone for the app store, that's it really. It's a big 'it' tho for me
Manicm
A mate at work has got the T-Mobile G1, he has had a few problems, like he accidently posted his porn stash from his mobile to his facebook account, which about an hour later he was banned, we still play him up over it! Overall i think he was and still is disappointed he never got an iphone, but he still badgers on about how how good it is, until i show him an app or two on the iphone! Hendo
I think it's the App Store that is the main selling point of the iPhone. Other smart phones have come along with better features (not hard when the camera is shite) and more power but the store is the greatest achievement. spatular
the app store is pretty much the only reason i want a touch. nearly bought one the other day as there was a good deal in currys but it ended, apparently there might be some good deals on the apple web site tomorrow... Jimboxy
google have officially launched there nexus one google phone. Its available sim free for £361 including shipping. I know that sounds expensive, but i'm pretty tempted by it. I could drop my o2 contract down to a sim only tariff for about £15 a month, including unlimited web, where as if i had a iphone, i'd be tied into a 18 - 24 month contract, and probably have to pay for the phone as well. I dunno, i'm pretty tempted by it, might see if i can scrape together some funds for it. ::EDIT:: just been doing some maths. for an iphone 3gs 16gb over the course of an 18 month contract would cost me £759 For the nexus, over 18 months (but only tied to a 12 month sim only contract) it would cost me £630, which is considerably cheaper. I don't know what to do..
