But I wish I could read it outside the house without having to hide the screen like a weirdo.

OCH
Wow, A comic book thread!? One I didn't have to build from the ground up either Not that I minded, it was my baby after all. Regardless, reading a bit at the moment. The biggest surprise though, was how good this was: Great idea of IDW to base the designs on the OG Machine Robo line of toys and not ...the show. I was seriously gutted by how disappointing the recent Transformers: Unicron mini series was, so I just got this out of curiosity. Very impressed. Then again I do enjoy the style of tom Scioli, so that helped.
Maf
I know I’m not supposed to say this but I am really, really liking Bendis’s Superman/Action Comics. Yes he’s writing style is a bit jarring for the characters (Particularly Lois calling Clark “Baby” every other sentence) and Bendis’ love for interpersonal drama is tyre screeching with some of what Lois says and has done. But overall he is still just a really fun writer. I think in Superman he’s showing he’s got good ideas for plot with Earth being sucked into the Phantom Zone and in Action Comics he”s showing he’s still got the banter and some good sitcom humour. You think that should be the other way around, but I’ll take it Also Patrick Gleason drawing Superman. Mwah

Maf
That Mister Miracle ending was so flat. 11 superb issues just to drop the ball at the end. Inevitable, interesting, but ultimately disappointing. A trap not even Mister Miracle! Super Escape Artist! Could Get away from!
OCH
Just now, Maf said: That Mister Miracle ending was so flat. 11 superb issues just to drop the ball at the end. Inevitable, interesting, but ultimately disappointing. A trap not even Mister Miracle! Super Escape Artist! Could Get away from! It was bittersweet, Maf and open to interpretation. It was either real or not, depending on the reader. It was never going to be a "happily ever after" ending. The preceding 11 issues should have made that clear... Maf
Well technically it was a happy ending. But I think the issue just lacked clarification on bigger topics. Like where does Anti Life fit in? Why did he punch Highfather? Darkseid is...what?
OCH
He punched Highfather because sometimes Perception is Reality. Believing a lie is often easier than admitting the truth. I did have to re-read #12 to appreciate it as an ending to the series overall. It was intended as a rhetorical question, Maf. 'Darkseid is'. Maf
Darkseid is isn’t rhetoric. It’s been in DC comics for years. But it’s always been pretty direct about what it means and that is bad things afoot. But here I thought because of the themes and subject matter it might mean something different or more than just “Evil god of evil”. And in the series it pushes towards that sometimes, but never establishes what it means to Scott, really. And when he punches Highfather he’s dad is saying to him “You also fell for the anti life like I once did, but you couldn’t escape from it” which is like...hmm. Why? What does anti life do in this book? It used to be mathematical evidence that all life should submit it’s will to Darkseid. But in this I thought it was a metaphor for depression, or anti life can effect a person in many ways and one of those ways was suicidal depression. Because ANTI LIFE. But instead it’s some virtual reality limbo between life and death? Heaven and Hell? I don’t know. Again more clarification. Overall it is still a superb series and one of the best I’ve read in years. But it’s just a shame the ending didn’t hit harder. It wasn’t even the fact that it wasn’t a happy ending, or that it’s up for interpretation. I was more just left with “That it? What am I meant to be interpreting?” I don’t know. Maybe it reads better in a trade format
