Setting up PC Speakers with TV/360

Just wondering if I have everything I need to do this, or if it's possible at all with my speakers... I took some blurry photos.

This shows most of the connections on the back of my tv, unfortunately the writing is very blurry.

All those grey wires are coming from the Wii if memory serves. The hdmi leads are in the top right, but you can't really see them in the picture.

And here's what it looks like with the Wii cables out, still blurry as fuck though:

Here's the back of my speakers, just 3 ports, one to the power, one to the laptop, and one to the other speaker.

And finally here's a cable that I picked up a few years ago for I think this purpose, but I don't know if it's the right one.

Any ideas?

Let me get this straight. You want to connect a set of computer speakers to your TV? Why mate? Unless you have some really high end PC speakers (and I don't think you do from the photo), your TV speakers should be fine. Unless your TV is knackered.

If this really is the case, how about just plugging the PC speakers into your TV's headphone socket?

The sound quality on my tv is terrible. It's a cheap Nordmende hdtv. It doesn't have a headphone socket as far as I'm aware.

Without a headphone socket on the TV, you're unlikely to get audio out (unless it's got optical out, but then you'd need a receiver for that).

If you're using a 360 component or composite cable, you could use an RCA (Female) to 3.5mm adaptor cable to connect the output from the 360 directly to the speakers.

RCA Female to 3.5mm Male if your PC speakers have a 3.5mm socket, or RCA Female to 3.5mm Female if the cable is already wired in.

Ok mate, that makes more sense. But it does present a problem. The sockets you show are inputs only, I think. The photos don't show the writing very clearly. Could you check down the SIDES of your TV, not the back, for a headphones socket. Most TV's have them, but not all. They're usually near the buttons of the TV.

Thanks, that looks like it would work. I'm using the HDMI cable with the 360 though. So I guess that rules that out?

I'll know better the next time I buy a tv I suppose!

The back part of the tv I photographed actually projects out from the tv, and along the side of that there's another set of sockets including a usb socket (what could I use that for?) and a headphones socket. Never noticed that before... It is in a dark corner of a dark room though.

A USB socket on an HDTV has one of two functions. The most common is MP4 or AVI movie file playback. The other, less common function is storage for live pause/record of freeview TV.

EDIT Also add music and photo playback to the MP4/AVI playback.

That's a relief then. I use PC speakers for my set up, I have an HDMI switch feeding PC/PS3/360 into my monitor and audio going out to speakers via the headphone socket (no speakers in my monitor). It's a nice and handy (and cheap) solution to having multiple systems connected.

I've often used the USB socket on my TV to charge a phone or tablet, etc. while watching a bit of telly, if other chargers are occupied.
