DANGERMAN Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 I had a theory during the first couple of hours of this that it was where Dragon Quest started to get less interesting. Dragon Quest 4 and particularly 5 did some really clever things with their narrative. Dragon Quest 8 and 9 not so much, they're just straight forward go and save the world stories. It's picked up though, Dragon Quest 6 plays about with time, showing you things in one time that set up stories in another. It's not the most clever thing in the world but it's more interesting than it looked like it was going to be.The gameplay is still the same, you start out alone but I've now got a party of 3, so there's some tactics creeping in with the tougher fights edit: It's actually not different times it's a dream world and a real world, one affects the other
radiofloyd Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 I must play this. In fact I think I've neglected my NDS backlog for far too long so I'm going to have to make that a priority after my exams. Btw if you're interested in an rpg that's a bit different then I recommend Radiant Historia if you haven't played it.
DANGERMAN Posted August 2, 2013 Author Posted August 2, 2013 Is that the one Sega published? Tbh I've got Mario & Luigi next, SMT4 is on the way at some point, then Pokemon in a few months, plus I've got Dragon Quest Monsters 2 half done. So it's not a lack of interest just too many waiting to be played

DANGERMAN Posted August 29, 2013 Author Posted August 29, 2013 this is definitely the worst Dragon Quest game, the whole middle of the game should be cut. It stays largely on point in the first part, it sends you around the houses slightly but generally it's all key to the story. The middle part though is justified as you just killing monsters to make the world a better place, there's no doubt there's story coming so spending 15 hours + not progressing it is a bit of a killer. It's also got that problem a few Jrpgs developed prior to the last few years, quite often you finish a dungeon, help a village out, and then left to your own devices. if you're lucky you'll get a vague mention of something "in the north-east", but there's been plenty of times where you don't even get that. It's frustrating, enough so that I'm really in no rush for 7 to come over, but I'm going to finish it, possibly without my usual mid-Dragon Quest break. It's certainly the worst Dragon Quest mainline game I've played, if anyone was going to play a DS remake DQ game I'd suggest 5, then 4
DANGERMAN Posted September 19, 2013 Author Posted September 19, 2013 ballsacks. I've been chipping away at this, kind of hating it a bit if I'm honest. The lack of information as to where or what you're supposed to do only gets worse in the 2nd half of the game, really unenjoyable. Anyway, I've slogged through and got to the final dungeon. The guide I was using said to get to level 45 before going in, nuts to that (I was at about 38), so I grinded for a while, healed and saved, then went in to the final dungeon. There's a heal spot a bit of the way in, and according to the guide another one right before the last boss, awesome. I found the first, didn't find the 2nd, and accidentally wandered in to the last boss' chamber, which I couldn't get back out of. So I had no choice but to fight him. I did ok, beat his first form no problem, beat his 2nd form with some hard work but got through ok. His third form though he can attack 3 times, he has 3 body parts you see. He killed one of my people, while I was reviving them he killed the person doing the reviving and one of my other characters, which basically led to my party being wiped out in the next 2 turns. Had he not killed that first person, or if I'd managed to revive them, I would have taken out one of his body parts on my next turn (as it turned out), which meant he would only attack twice (or once if he was trying to revive that part), which would have let me heal up etc So I got pretty close, but ultimately died and lost hours of grinding
DANGERMAN Posted September 20, 2013 Author Posted September 20, 2013 I did a bunch of grinding yesterday, I'm going to gain one more level for everyone then save and face off against the cunt again. I've discovered a new move in my arsenal too, a big laser thing that blasts across a group of enemies for 300 damage, it costs 20 mp a turn to do but my main character has 200 mp, so if I save it for the last form I should be able to spam it I've got a couple of podcasts lined up to listen to, some new albums, so it's headphones on and then play until I've killed the cunt today
Sambob Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 You could do it ten times in a row without having to re-up on your magic points.
illdog Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 You could shut your stupid fucking face ten times in a row and fuck off?
DANGERMAN Posted September 20, 2013 Author Posted September 20, 2013 suck my balls Mortamor! Rather than the laser sword attack I used a lightning attack, the laser wasn't targetting every part of the final boss' final form but the other one was. I summoned a demon to help me against his first form who had the same spell, so once I got rid of Mort's first hand he was already half beat. He did manage to take out one of my healers, so I had to sacrifice an attacking turn to heal everyone and use a leaf to bring her back I even finished off the last boss with a spell that takes every member of your party's turn to launch an uber attack, just to really hit home that it's love, friendship, trust, and teamwork that will bring about true peace to our world. Unfortunately it actually took about 3 of those spells, so some of the dramatic affect was lost, but you get the picture. Dragon Quest 6 ended on a high, for whatever reason the last boss was really enjoyable, but it's still comfortably the worst mainline Dragon Quest game I've played
