When did Rune Factory become a cool looking action game? I thought they were all cosy farming games

I’m really confused by all these farming games that then have dragons and action and sword fighting and shit. I overlook and dismiss them based on the farming then it’s like, but what’s going on in that part?

The indie showcase was pretty bad except for the very last Pizza Tower/Wario Land looking game right at the end

The partner showcase was much better. Power Stone. That Star Overdive game. Castlevania collection today (!) The second half was decent

Rune Factory always had dragons and fighting and stuff, maf. This is a significant technical leap though. I don't know if anyone here remembers RF5, but that game was so hideous it made the last Pokémon games look like videogame topmodels. The new Atelier game also looks extremely ambitious and I didn't even see any alchemy in that trailer, which was rather odd. Will keep an eye on both, even if they're not quite at the top of my list.

I agree that the show was relatively mediocre as it seems even third-parties are preparing for Switch 2. But the last ten minutes did some work. I'll pick up that Castlevania Collection even if the way they adapted the dual screen setup is the most inelegant solution imaginable.

Also interested in how Yakuza will do on the platform. They did one of those late releases on WiiU as well, which nobody bought, and then concluded Nintendo players didn't want that series. So hopefully this does better and the IP can go proper multiplatform.

I've still got a bit to watch, but the Castlevania collection (I have them, but still) is a brilliant collection of games.

Also, that Capcom fighting collection has 3 of the best fighting games of all time. Project Justice is incredible, but stupidly expensive on Dreamcast (it's a Rival Schools sequel), Capcom vs SNK 2 is the best of the vs games. And Alpha 3 is probably the best Street Fighter game

I’m glad it isn’t just me who thought they looked cool. Not overly excited by them but they looked interesting

I've been playing the Puyo Puyo style spin off of that, funnily enough

More stuff. The Sonic Lego was being cleared out in my local Tesco because the box is crushed. I think I need to tidy up some stuff to make space before I could put it out somewhere.

The big game box on the left is a Dreamcast game called Gunlord. It was originally an indie Neo Geo game but got a Dreamcast port, seems to play like Turrican

The Japanese Saturn game on the right is a spin off of a series of dating games. It's called Tokimeki Memorial Taisen, and it's a bit like Puyo Puyo, looks fun. @spatulartalked me in to buying it

Another JPN game getting a remake and localisation is Trails in the Sky

This was casually announced during a sizzle reel with a 30 second dubstep trailer, here’s the real full trailer

I got Trails from Zero and Trails Through Daybreak on Switch as people said they were good, but yet to play them. Now the very first game is getting remade on Switch I’m excited to have a good jumping on point

People really like the original of this, I was baffled when this showed up cause it looked like a remake but it was like they were chucking it out there like it was nothing so I assumed it couldn't be or they'd give it more of a showpiece

I couldn't get into the original, I won't bother with the remake tho cause I prefer trying the originals of things. I have the original on GOG from god knows when

One detail I remember hearing about this game is NPCs have tons of shit to say and it keeps updating throughout the game. Which, I guess, is something other RPGs do to an extent but people make it out to be a big thing in this game

looks like RF made a thread about it

Yeah, this was kind of hidden away a bit, but a pretty cool announcement. I've always wanted to try out this series but I think the first one is only on PSP and PC or something? Can't remember, but it's not on any system I currently have hooked up so this is great news. I doubt I will ever get through this whole thing though, no matter how much I enjoy the first. Twelve interconnected JRPGs at 70-ish hours of playtime each is a bit overkill.

I don;t want to play all of them, but would like to play the good ones.

Zero is supposed to be good. I think you play as a JRPG fantasy cop or something.

I have to be honest I hate the names. It’s so confusing.

  • 3 weeks later...

Seemingly the full specs for Switch 2 leaked and some kind of image of the console. If real it looks exactly like a normal Switch

Even though I think Switch 2 will be really big without a gimmick. It will need to look different. If it looks almost exactly the same as the leaks is showing, casuals will look at it and not understand it’s a new system

I’m not a big believer in the leaked images out there. I think Switch 2 will very much be a Switch 2. But I think Nintendo must know it will need a visual redesign to stand out

Exactly what I want from a Switch 2.

I agree though that it could cause headaches breaking into the mainstream again if the design is as iterative as the leaks show. But yea, selfishly for me it’s spot on. I’d prefer better joy-cons but hey, I whatever. I’ll just get a 3rd party one again & pro controller is good enough for Tv use still.

It's been debunked already, I can't find it anymore but the images come from someone who does 3D models as a hobby. Edit: https://x.com/tomwarren/status/1836391172685644221

I also think it wouldn't really make sense for stuff like this to leak, otherwise we'd have seen it months ago. The only possible leaks that can happen between now and the announcement are photos from the production pipeline I think, because that's the only link in the chain where Nintendo isn't 100% in control.

Nintendo still best game company

https://www.eurogamer.net/nintendo-would-rather-go-in-a-different-direction-than-follow-ai-trend-says-miyamoto

Quote

In an interview with the New York Times, Miyamoto discussed the importance of originality for the company and what makes Nintendo special, using AI as an example.

"It might seem like we are just going the opposite direction for the sake of going in the opposite direction, but it really is trying to find what makes Nintendo special," said Miyamoto. "There is a lot of talk about AI, for example. When that happens, everyone starts to go in the same direction, but that is where Nintendo would rather go in a different direction."

Although the rumour was Switch 2 was using DLSS. So I guess Miyamoto means generative AI
