My Old Songs

A few weeks back I went to watch a gig with a mate I've known since primary school. Up until we went to uni we were in to pretty much exactly the same bands, not so much after that, he stayed liking the same type of music as we used to, only with stuff like that guy from Busted's metal band added in, whereas I continued my ascent towards impeccable taste.

Anyway we used to be in a band together, a few bands, or the same band in different forms. We never really did much, mostly because we were the only 2 rock kids in our year so finding anyone else, let alone someone who was actually any good to play bass/drums/sing was a problem. We did, just as we were drifting apart, manage to rope in a mate to play drums for us one day, which we recorded on either an old tascam 4 track or a digital 8-track.

Half way through this gig my mate said a song from one of the bands reminded him of one of ours, I'm not sure which one as I didn't even recognise the name, which is when he told me he had a cd of our old stuff. I'd forgot all about recording this, to be honest I'd forgotten some of these songs even existed (despite writing them), let alone that a cd existed. The cd is 14 tracks long, once I got a copy I was going to share it for a laugh anyway, but then I listened to it. I was expecting to be embarrassed by what I heard, but some of it is actually alright, most of it though is just recordings for my benefit so I didn't forget how it went, you really dont want to hear those

Some words of warning, the volume on these might be all over the place, back then I sang like an American, and one of the songs features the line "so smooth like Bloty Rain", bloty rain is an anagram of Tony Blair. Yep, pretty powerful stuff
