Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Missing Link DLC (PC)

This DLC takes place within the storyline of the main game: you stow aboard a cargo ship in a statis pod, and turn up a few days later at a research facility. This chapter is apparently what happened in that time. I admit I couldn't really remember what had happened in the game, so had to go read up on the plot on wikipedia.

I really enjoyed Human Revolution when I played it, despite the presentation being a little iffy sometimes. A year or so later, some of that same stuff looks reeeeeally dodgy now. Character and facial animations and lip syncing are terrible, and voice acting's not great.

Despite all that, it's still fantastic to play.

It's the first time I've seen it to the end and I'm just glad I can say I've gone through one of these games (well, I did finish Shattered Memories but that's not a Team Silent one) and it feels pretty good. I liked it for the most part. I'll have a bit of a break and then dive into Silent Hill 3.

I recommend Scratches with my heart and soul. I had shivers down my spine playing it, the back of my neck went cold. For fans of horror films, and thoughtful stories.

Very short but very good, kind of Enter The Dragon but tongue in cheek. Not sure on the choice of voice for the tournament master though.

Hard Reset (PC)

Hard Reset: Exile DLC (PC)

The DLC for Hard Reset was an extra chapter, which was originally included in the retail edition that came out last year. It came out last summer, but I only found out about it a few weeks ago. They updated the Steam version with it for free, which was a cool thing for them to do.

I played it last year, but didn't really remember what the story was about, so I played the main game again first. Last year I said:

Hard Reset (PC)

A bit of an uneven experience.

The visuals are great and I enjoy how stuff flies around everywhere in the heat of the action. I loved the atmosphere, and the design of the environment. I particularly liked the advertising billboards and propaganda style information posters everywhere. Unfortunately it is quite a linear path from start to finish, and there's not a lot of variety.

The enemy encounters are decidedly old school shooter. Large numbers of enemies appear and rush you head on. In the beginning this is really hard to manage, and you end up just back- pedalling while firing like a madman.

This can be pretty tiresome, but the weapon upgrade system is quite good. Once you've got a few upgrades under your belt you have more options in combat, it becomes a bit more manageable.

The story is presented via some fairly attractive motion comic style scenes, but it doesn't make a lot of sense. It also doesn't really end, it just kind of stops.

I enjoyed it overall but if it was much longer than the 5-6 hours it took me, it might have outstayed it's welcome.

I pretty much still agree with most of that, although knowing about the weapon upgrade system already helped me focus on what I wanted for various tasks (crowd control, taking down the big guys, etc.), which made it more enjoyable.

The DLC pretty much addressed the criticism about the ending, it definitely felt more like a proper ending this time.

So overall: it still looks fantastic, blowing robots to pieces and the environmental kills are excellent and the DLC compliments it nicely.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. That's a grim one. I'm glad I did get round to playing it as it is something doing a cool thing with story in a game. Just when you can't think it gets any worse it does. I'll certainly be there on day one with the next series.

But for now, because of this and Silent Hill 2 I think I'm just gonna play Outrun 2 and Pokemon for a bit... I dunno if I can handle any more of that kind of stuff.

Yep, that's a Dead or Alive game. I've just done the story mode. I could wring all the sassy costumes out of the Arcade Mode and take it online but I don't have the passion to get good at it again. But I had some cool fights, a good giggle and a good cringe at it which was fun.
