Hendo Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 I'm really struggling with this, might start from scratch on Easy or go back and re-do past missions first. I die a lot and don't feel like the stealthy bad ass I should be.
radiofloyd Posted November 28, 2012 Posted November 28, 2012 Dishonored is, clearly, a new franchise, publisher Bethesda has said.Sales of the Arkane-developed first-person action game are above expectations, Bethesda marketing chief Pete Hines told Destructoid, and so publisher Bethesda has added it to its stable of franchises, which includes Fallout, Elder Scrolls and Doom. “I can tell you that Dishonored is far exceeding our sales expectations,” Hines said without disclosing sales figures, “which is especially cool considering it's a new IP facing a host of well-established franchises this quarter. “We did terrific numbers again this past weekend, both in stores and on Steam, where Dishonored was listed as the number one selling title over the holiday weekend. And Dishonored has really sold well overseas.” He added: “So, we're very pleased and appreciate all the fans that have supported Dishonored and Arkane. We clearly have a new franchise.” In the UK Dishonored entered the chart at number two following its October release. It was kept off top spot by FIFA 13, but is the biggest launch for a new IP so far in 2012 (a title previously held by Sleeping Dogs). This record was achieved despite UK numbers company Chart-Track not counting digital copies sold. In the US Dishonored shifted 460,000 copies in October, according to NPD. But again, digital sales are not included. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-11-28-higher-than-expected-dishonored-sales-mean-bethesda-has-a-new-franchise
illdog Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 As one of the best single-player experiences to come out this year, many gamers were interested to see where Arkane Studios and Bethesda were planning to go in terms of post-release DLC for Dishonored. As we covered back in October the "Dunwall City Trials" DLC is going to give gamers ten challenge maps that will test gamers' ability in time-trials, wave-based combat, amongst other arduous tasks. The "Dunwall City Trials" pack for Dishonored will be released on December 11th, will cost you 400 MSP, and will net you some new achievements. wholehole Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 May stump up the cash, but meh. What I'd really like are the two story based DLCs coming next year.
Craymen Edge Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 I finished it last night. It turns out I saved about 4 minutes from the end of the game last time I played. I really loved fucking around in this world, the art direction, the little details. It's brilliant and atmospheric. I've been capturing awesome screenshots as I play along. I got the low chaos ending (a little anti-climactic), as the non lethal options were often the most interesting. I wasn't above a little bit of murdering though, I often killed 6-12 people per mission. I also enjoyed throwing guards off the highest floor of the lighthouse. I was surprised by the number of well known names in the credits that i totally didn't spot while playing: Susan Sarandon, Michael Madsen, Carrie Fisher, Chloe Moretz, Brad Douriff. There's also some credits for Quantic Dream in there. I assume for the performance capture tech?
retroed Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 I started this earlier, on Normal. I've just now finished the first proper mission after the tutorial one, after playing for a lot longer than I had intended. It's absolutely superb. I've done a load of the side missions along the way because I actually wanted to. It's a world that wants to be explored. I'm not a massive stealth fan but, like Mark of the Ninja, Dishonored eases you in nicely and isn't overly strict. If anything the AI is a bit on the blind side in places. I don't mind that one bit. I am using Blink, and Dark Vision. I can also jump higher and enemies turn to ash if killed without noticing me. I lean towards the non-lethal approach, and have reloaded a few times when things haven't gone quite according to plan. My overall chaos rating on both stages I've played has been 'low'. I'm playing this on 360 and it looks beautiful. Some of, if not the best art direction I've seen this year.
DANGERMAN Posted April 19, 2013 Author Posted April 19, 2013 I finished the dlc The Knife of Dunwall tonight, it's pretty good, although the extra challenge at the start doesn't really mix with you forgetting how to play. The 2nd mission is comparatively easy compared to the first, it's structured more like a mission from the main game, they should have put that first and had the slaughter house later as it's easily the best, most explorable, location in the game.I was surprised how well they've hidden the multiple endings for this, I'm not sure how much it'll matter in the great scheme of things, and I'm not sure I want to go back to get the ending I want, but with the 2nd dlc on the way they could tie it in. They don't seem to put as much stock in to the chaos rating, it's still there at the end of the level but it's not directly mentioned. That said I did kill an awful lot of people in the first area and got a line of dialogue that I suspect would have been different if I hadn't. The consequence of this though is that is the main game pushed you in to being stealthy too much, then the dlc encourages you to killIt's a fair few hours long, the way I played it at least, although I guess if you didn't go rune hunting and just killed everyone you could get it done quicker
Craymen Edge Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 I got the Knife of Dunwall DLC for £6.40 with the Green Man Gaming code. I'm looking forward to giving it a go, they built such a great world in Dishonored and it'll be great to go back to it for more. Also, the Daud/Assassin sub-plot plot wasn't as well developed as some of the other parts so it'll be good to learn more. Unfortunately I've somehow found myself part way through a couple of fairly long games at the same time (Ni No Kuni & Okami HD), so some serious time juggling is going to be required. Anyone know if the Dunwall Trials DLC is any good? The traversal and stuff in the game is good, but I'm less interested if it doesn't have a decent link to the fiction too.
spatular Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 dlc is all half price on steam currently, i'm tempted but given i barely ever play dlc i'll probably wait for 75%.
DANGERMAN Posted July 16, 2013 Author Posted July 16, 2013 Dishonored: The Brigmore Witches, the final add-on for Bethesda's excellent stealth adventure, arrives for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on 13th August (and the day after that for PS3 in Europe). It costs £7.99/€9.99 or 800 Microsoft Points. The Brigmore Witches concludes the story of assassin Daud, one of the main game's antagonists and the protagonist of earlier DLC The Knife of Dunwall. You can import your save from that add-on, too.
DANGERMAN Posted August 13, 2013 Author Posted August 13, 2013 the last dlc is out for this today, in fact it might already be out on 360
DANGERMAN Posted August 14, 2013 Author Posted August 14, 2013 I've done the first mission, it's back in a location from the main game, although I don't remember the specific area (the larger area for there was huge with loads of routes), so maybe I just missed it. I've seen a few people complain that it's a bit too small, but one of the problems with the Knife of Dunwall dlc was that that it started with a really interesting new location, but you were too rusty to make the most of it, at least this works as a tutorial of sorts. The 2nd area seems to be much bigger, more in keeping with the main game in that it's a walk through some of the city before reaching your location
Craymen Edge Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 The Knife of Dunwall is very good. The whale processing plant is awesome. It took a little while to get back into the swing of things coming back to the game after so long. Unfortunately I seem to have saved myself into an unwinnable position near the end of the final mission. I haven't played for a couple of weeks because having to restart is disappointing. After Okami HD, maybe.
Sly Reflex Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 Advice then. What advice would you give someone about to start this game? Anything I should concentrate on or avoid?
DANGERMAN Posted April 21, 2014 Author Posted April 21, 2014 Nothing really leaps out, I'm sure there is stuff but it's been a while. I will say that I never really used the powers that used more meter than I could recharge, but I had enough recovery stuff that I should have. The only other thing I can think of is that you can blink with an unconscious body, so you can hide them on roofs
Sly Reflex Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 I started this this evening. I like it, although there's several things that jar me. I don't get why the health and mana don't just fully recharge, it is an unnecessary mechanic that means you can abuse potion spamming. Just balance the game so nothing can be abused and difficulty is based on what is stood in front of me rather than how I fared in previous battles. The FOV was horrific at standard too, i felt like I was holding my hands on my chin until I pushed it as far out as it'd go. Other than those things, it seems pretty good. It's like a cross between Thief, Hitman, Deus Ex and Bioshock. The heart thing is cool, it makes sure you don't miss parts of the game that they constructed as a puzzle to power yourself up without being intrusive or totally spoiling how you're meant to get the pick up. I didn't do bad getting out of the start area, I managed to get through it without killing or alerting anyone. The level where I went into the place where the 2 guys were targets was a complete bloodbath though. I get the feeling you could nip in and out quickly if you knew what was coming up.
Craymen Edge Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 Once you've got a feel for it, it's well worth turning the objective markers off in the options. I really enjoyed going around soaking up the environment, and finding stuff by exploration. The objective markers can lead to you just following the arrows and not taking it all in if you're not careful.
AndyKurosaki Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 I pretty much killed every bastard in my way.Made me laugh, so there you go.
Sly Reflex Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Oh man, I had no idea it was the sort of game that kept sending you back to the same areas so you could witness the fallout of what you'd done. I managed to fuck my progress up right away by blinking up to the rooftops to gain access only to have rival assassin jump me. I'm going to have to be more careful in future. I'm currently looking for some guy that's gone missing tryiong to rob some rich dudes safe. I went through the front door, choked everyone out and then realised I could have gotten in through a window and avoided all the guards.
Sly Reflex Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Well I just finished the whorehouse level. Once I got through to the Golden Cat it was pretty easy going, I managed to go that whole area without being seen and choking people out. I did balls it up with those zombie guys though, I ended up just running through that place so I could get to the Distillery and hand the code for that safe in the art dealers house. I reckon the guys I was sent to kill would have been better off on the end of my sword, I condemned them to a life worse than death. The details in this game are quite incredible. In the first level I was fighting on a rooftop, the guy that was up there with me staggered as I parried his attack and fell through a skylight to his death. Another time when I got spotted a guard whistled dogs over from the other side of the level rather than take me on himself. I choked a whore out in the last level and as I was tipping her head back her eyes watered and left a mascara mark tear running down her face. It looks like the game is full of stuff like that. Next up I'm off to kidnap a boffin and turn off some lights. No doubt they made it a lot easier than it sounds.
