DANGERMAN
I've nothing against it in principle, and I suspect it's quite a good way to watch films/stream on to your tv, but I don't need that at the minute, it's underpowered, and doesn't have access to the Play store
radiofloyd
You can move Leisure Suit Larry: In the Land of the Lounge Lizards to the list of released games. Also, Armikrog has been funded to the tune of $974,000.
DANGERMAN
Double Fine boss Tim Schafer has said he needs more money to finish development of crowd-funded adventure game Broken Age. He intends to sell the first half of the game on Steam Early Access next year and use the money it makes to fund development of the second half. Schafer settled on making "some modest cuts" to finish the first half of the game by January 2014 instead of July, and releasing it on Steam Early Access. Steam Early Access allows developers to charge money for pre-release content. A recent example is the Arma 3 beta, currently on sale for £30. Double Fine intends to use the money made selling this early access version of Broken Age to fund development of the second half of the game, which would be released as a free update around April or May 2014. "So, everybody gets to play the game sooner, and we don't have to cut the game down drastically," Schafer said. "Backers still get the whole game this way - nobody has to pay again for the second half." http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-07-03-tim-schafer-needs-more-money-to-finish-broken-age so yeah, they raised millions more than they needed yet still can't get the game out, since then they've done 2 more kickstarters (I think), one which finished 5 days ago and so was done in the full knowledge that they had fucked this one up. What I will say though, the people who backed this seem very understanding, I guess they would be as fans, so it's not really for me to be annoyed by
Craymen Edge
I've seen a lot of people whining about this, and making bizarre accusations of lying etc. Which is weird, since the documentary and backer forum have been a really open and honest view into the development of a game. They made it clear a while ago that what the original target would have been a pretty small project. I think re-scoping the project when they made all the extra money was the right thing to do, but Schafer seems to have gone to far the other way. I don't have a problem with them starting a second Kickstarter if it keeps another team occupied. Nobody seemed to mind when inXile did it. For me, the documentary was a big part of the reason I backed it, and I think it's been well worth the price of admission. A big problem is that too many people think of kickstarter as some kind of game pre-ordering system, instead of a way to help interesting projects get made. Listening to gaming podcasts, I get the feeling that a lot of game 'journalists' don't understand this difference either, so maybe I shouldn't be surprised. DANGERMAN
I think the problem with the 2nd kickstarter (besides them not really needing kickstarter) is that they held this news until after that had finished. But like I said, the people affected by this don't seem to mind hugely (some do, most don't) so it's not for me to complain. You would think they'd be a bit more careful with crowdfunded money though,

Half the stuff on KS is to some extent done, you pay a set amount and get the game when it's released. People maybe don't fully appreciate the risk that you wont get anything and wont get your money back yet, but it's not just consumers and press treating it like funding your game upfront
radiofloyd
http://youtu.be/6OkfbzqFHEM Live presentation of Shroud of the Avatar three months post kickstarter. I think it looks great, if this is what they are going for then my pledge was money well spent! Love the text-based conversation system (funny how I was raving about this just a few days ago in Quest for Glory).

radiofloyd
Housekeeping: You should add Satellite Reign which got funded for £461,333 and seems to be a reboot of Bullfrog's Syndicate Wars. Leisure Suit Larry and Shadowrun Returns have now both been released. There's a thread for Shadowrun Returns in the games section (same for Kentucky Route Zero) so I guess you should link those. Leisure Suit Larry maybe just delete it and forget about it, it's gotten terrible reviews.

radiofloyd
Gamecom trailer for Broken Sword 5: http://youtu.be/BDyKQNYQehs Hmm I wonder if "Les Chevaliers de Baphomet" was the French title of Broken Sword? It would be just as appropriate as the English title I guess. They've obviously decided not to go back to the graphical style of the early games which is a shame. Other than that, colour me excited. Pun intended.

radiofloyd
Japanese devs are finally hitting Kickstarter. Keiri Inafune launched a kickstarter for Mighty No. 9 during Pax Prime which is looking for $900,000 and has already raised over $500,000 with 30 days to go. It's Megman. Right down to the theme tune. Also Project Phoenix is already 700% funded with 9 days remaining. I backed it and have been following it very closely, I like what they developers have been saying so far.

radiofloyd
Adventure game Broken Sword 5 has been split into two episodes, Revolution has announced. The first episode launches on PC worldwide on 4th December 2013. Episode two launches in January 2014. Bought separately each episode costs £9.99, but they can be bought together for £14.99. Episode one launches on PC, Mac and Linux through Steam, GOG.com and Revolution's own website on 4th December. A PlayStation Vita version comes out later in the month. The concluding episode launches on PC in January 2014, with iOS and Android versions following shortly after each PC episode comes out. Broken Sword 5 was a successful Kickstarter project that raised $850,000 from 15,000 backers in September 2012. Those who pledged to receive a PC, Mac or Linux copy of the game will get each episode as it become available. Revolution boss Charles Cecil described each episode as a "full sized game in its own right". "Whilst this is very much a classic Broken Sword game in terms of production values and sense of adventure, we're really breaking new ground with The Serpent's Curse," he said. "The success of our Kickstarter appeal has allowed us to be hugely ambitious - each episode is a full sized game in its own right. So we will be publishing two action-packed adventures in close succession. The response to those that have seen the game so far has been hugely positive - some suggesting that this is the best Broken Sword yet." Broken Sword 5 once again stars George Stobbart and Nico Collard, who investigate the theft of a mysterious painting from a Paris gallery before becoming embroiled in some nefarious conspiracy. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-11-05-broken-sword-5-split-into-two-episodes Gonna play through BS2 now then!
