Anyone else playing this?

It's bloody brilliant, i've been playing it for 15-20 minutes a day since i got it, it's very intense. I've just started Level 3, Pillars of Light, which introduces my favourite videogame enemy type...spiders.

The game itself is a first person dungeon crawling rpg, with a really good balance between exploration, puzzles and combat. If you like Dark Souls you'll love it.

Same here. It's magnetic, can't keep myself away from it. Been playing it pretty much every night. It's so atmospheric, looks and sounds gorgeous, despite the lack of any real difference in the dungeon so far. I think it just adds to the feel. Why would they change the decor of a dungeon meant to house prisoners and monsters?

I love the party mechanics and how the fights work in real time but keep a certain turn-based flavour to them at the same time by having each character's attacks on cooldown. The small amount of story they start you off with and the little snippets of dialogue at random points is enough to add a bit of intrigue to the game, but just uncovering the map and puzzling your way through each floor is enough to keep you moving down.

And seriously, fuck those spiders emoticon-00173-middlefinger.gif Poisonous little bastards. Mess me up every time I see one :(

Almost Human announces The Legend of Grimrock 2.

In a blog post on the official Legend of Grimrock website, Almost Human says the project its been discussing in previous posts has finally been designated Legend of Grimrock II.

“We still have a lot of ideas we’d like to explore, lots and lots of new content already done (originally made for a DLC/expansion) and a big engine update in the works,” writes Almost Human. “DLC would have limited too much [of] what we can do."

Legend of Grimrock released last April, and was praised for its old-school gameplay and puzzles. You can follow the progress on the sequel on Almost Human’s Legend of Grimrock blog.

Would you believe I don't think I touched this game since I created this thread... It was probably a combination of the spiders and Fez coming out at the same time.

We should definitely play LoG in the indie thread over the summer. Seems like LoG2 is going to be an ambitious sequel if they are going outdoors.

I'm waiting for the Linux version to get a Steam release.

I also agree that LoG 2 is going to be very ambitious sequel.

The early reviews of Grimrock 2 are incredible positive:

RPG Fan - 95%

The original Grimrock had a child with Myst and it was kidnapped by Dark Souls II in its infancy and raised to adulthood in the graveyard of forgotten CRPGs. That's Grimrock II. And yet it has its own puzzling, riddling dungeon crawling magic. It's an intricate puzzle box hiding needles beneath its surface. It's a frightening force of nature, a storm of darkness and the things that crawl in it. It's a sphinx with starry eyes. The Legend of Grimrock II is a work of genius.

Rock Paper Shotgun:

Everything in this sequel is bigger, more elaborate, more detailed, and absolutely better. Which, after such a lovely first game, is quite the thing. You will be able to sink days and days into this, and still come away with secrets undiscovered, doors unopened. And I think a real respect for a game that is not only itself phenomenally smart, but one that thinks you are too. It’s a joy, so splendidly crafted, so stuffed with original ideas and surprises. This isn’t nostalgia any more – it’s a massive step forward.

File under "one to look forward to when I get a new PC".

There's nothing to stop me going back and finally braving the original Grimrock though. If I can beat Amnesia: The Dark Descent, what's a few spiders...

I went back and played this as well today. Made a fair bit of progress in the spider level. I discovered a pretty neat trick, if an enemy is behind a door that you can open and close with a switch/chain, then you can actually fight, close the door to rest and heal, then open the door again to do some more damage. From what I can see enemies do not heal when you are resting. Obviously this is doubly useful against spiders when they inflict poison... So I cleared up the room with the four spiders in it, looted the treasure and have now gone through the door locked by two iron keys.

This is a really brilliant game, one of the best indie games. The last time I played it I was completely stuck in the room with the moving warp cloud, but today I figured it out. After about an hour. I love the exploration and finding secret areas (which is generally easy but good fun).
