Sales figures and stupid assumptions:

"Noted industry analyst Daniel Ahmad has revealed that of that 100 million, the U.S. accounts for 30 million sales, making it the biggest individual market. Japan is next on 8.3 million, followed by Germany on 7.2 million, and the UK on 6.8 million. Since the UK’s population is around 67.5 million that means there’s approximately one PlayStation 4 for every 10 people in the UK"

But that doesn't account for individuals who own more than one PS4, and probably includes Pro sales (likely again to be multiple owners), and will include sold but now broken consoles, so I'd guess it's more likely to be 1 in 20.

I can see it, but I think it would be stupid. The point is that you're extending the life of the generation, doing it at the start means one of them is underpowered and tells the people who are buying that one they'll be getting the low framerate version of games in a years time. They should wait 3-4 years again

The thing about the Pro and the X (Especially the X) is that I think in hindsight they were as necessary as any hardware revision has ever been in a generation. It was ultimately a good fix. The flip side to that is if it was really successful then all the business will see is “oh, this is a viable and accepted strategy” which it really shouldn’t be. It was a fix. Because there was a problem. Just don’t put out consoles that can’t stay technically competetitive or relevant for another 5 years. Don’t repeat the problem.

Also the Pro and X, just for me, have actually done too good of a job at extending this generation. I couldn’t really be unhappier that there are new consoles coming when my current ones are really great and their library’s of games are too big for me to deal with anyway.

I know I don’t have to buy the new ones but really we all know we do

360 and ps3 showed its age really bad from about 2011 or so

I remember massive screen tearing, bad frame rates, pop in and image quality issues. It was easily the most "too long in the tooth" generation for me. Even on ps2 you had much better performance on average

I think the difference for you and some others is HDR. But performance and visuals havent shown as much stability problems relative to last gen imo

Notable that there seems to be fewer AAA games this generation, and, as the NS has demonstrated, you can have a huge downloadable catalogue of cross platform and indie games, without needed to stretch the current tech.

I'm not sure what the next gen is really offering, visuals aside, in order to provide gameplay options that are not currently available ?

I haven't played my PS4 much, I must admit. But I do like the occasional graphics boost from the switch. But I'm definitely going to be one of those people who buys a console purely to play a particular game next time round, so I'm likely to have a 2023 special edition God of War 2 PS5. Sony still have enough in the first party game to keep me on side. But only just, to be honest.

I'm toying with the idea of PC.
