mfnick
As long as they’re not overly expensive (<£600) I’ll buy them & sell my old to help fund them. Surely can get £200-300 for mine in new with box so wouldn’t be too bad at that point. Want that framerate! Stupid really as most AAA games don’t do it for me anymore but that’s just how it is. Yeah, I kind of agree with that. I think we're way past the point where you can 'blame' the hardware for mediocre performance, considering the limiting factors today are time, money and manpower. I've played a bunch of AA games over the last 12 months that all had almost flawless 60fps modes with decent enough visual fidelity, showcasing that it's a case of planning rather than brute-forcing. Of course a Pro model would help in the latter cases, but that feels like a two negatives turning into a positive kind of scenario. I do wonder how much they're going to ask for a Pro model though, considering they've already been forced to increase the base PS5 RRP at some point. Snaggletooth
I do wonder how well embraced it would be this Gen, given the relative lack of big first party titles. Really hard to justify the upgrade this time, add in peoples lack of money I cant see it selling as well, simarly are there that many people that would contribute to new users rather than upgraders? Given they usually make a loss on console sales I cant imagine it generating a massive amount of extra software sales to offset any losses. But I'm likely wrong
shinymcshine
I'm sure if they did a tie in with GTA VI and said it makes the puddles more realistic it'd sell in the bucket load.

Nag
More rumours (and open talk at Gamescom if the reports are to be believed) about the PS5 Pro being a thing... yet PlayStation 5 has just had a $90 price increase for the Japanese, how exactly do they launch this thing if it's real? one-armed dwarf
And more pro stuff. Seems like it might be digital only tho I think you can buy disc drives separate now https://www.eurogamer.net/playstation-5-pro-design-reportedly-leaks As ever my interest (or not) remains dependent on what games will have exclusivity on PS. I said it already but I really hated how Rebirth's modes gave me actual headaches. I never get that with games. Yes maybe that's more on square than sony but fuck sake, it's not the gaming experience I'm looking for is it. I don't care who's fault it is I just don't want gaming to feel that way If Square really commit to multiplat tho then it's an easy pass, but it will be interesting to see how it pushes things. The regular PS5 is underwhelming for ray tracing, maybe this will be better who knows.
Maf
I think I’ve settled on the fact we need Pro consoles just to get away from FSR. I don’t mean to bring it up all the time but I honestly think it’s so ugly. It’s the only time in my life playing games where a graphics thing has been important/detrimental to me. I’m starting to play games on quality modes all the time because as much as I would prefer 60fps, 30fps is no way as bad as FSR.
Snaggletooth
Ps5 was never really cut out for RT and imo isnt worth sacrificing visual fidelity or frame rates for on the console. Having built pc earlier this year I have no interest in pro this generation. There just arent enough games I feel would really benefit from it, and cedtainly not enough for the price point of the console. I would sooner have new first party game announcements they have been massively underwhelming this amongst shuttered studios and online focused titles. Honestly I ve not hated it but this to me has been the most underwhelming console generation ever.

Maf
If it is true I hope they demo some 3rd party games as well. Not much wrong with 1st party games in terms of performance (if I remember right) a lot of the biggest games failing technically are 3rd party I’m thinking Alan Wake 2, Star Wars Jedi Survivor, Final Fantasy games, etc Hopefully they show improvements that actually matter The thing about a PS5 Pro is I don’t want want one to make great looking games look better, I want one that can give more power to games that are struggling
Maryokutai
Sony's CFO recently said that they hadn't fostered their IP from the beginning which they see as an issue: https://www.ign.com/articles/sony-doesnt-have-enough-original-franchises-built-from-the-ground-up-executive-says Interesting this just popped up when Astro Bot releases. He's definitely not wrong, I think it was never as clear as it was when they launched their Smash Bros. clone back in the day and everyone was baffled by the character roster up until they realised that it was pretty much all they got. I do think it's not entirely their fault though. I remember when the first God of War came out and both critics and players alike were shouting from the rooftops how cool it was to see something new for a change and how boring Nintendo's focus on Mario was in comparison. Which wasn't fundamentally a wrong perspective to have as a consumer, but Sony might have taken it a bit too literally in the years after. I guess it should also be pointed out that for whatever reason, their efforts to release more playful new IPs (Gravity Rush, Puppeteer, Concrete Genie) all completely bombed compared to the gritty realistic cinematic games. It's also interesting to look back at PS3, which remains this weird threshold console, where you have both Sly Cooper and The Last of Us on it. Maf
I think a bigger issue is they don’t nurture any of their IP. Sony owns loads of names. It’s been their choice to neglect it in favour of AAA cinematic games
Maryokutai
The tl;dr version of my post. I've mentioned this in the past, but I also firmly believe that all that investment they put into those Spider-Man games was a mistake. They've basically been 'fostering' someone else's IP in favour of their own.

Snaggletooth
I thougt days gone did okay bar the launch performance? Part of the problem with a lot of the above games I think they all ended up releasing amongst a busy shedule of games. So end up getting less attention than the bifg releases
Maryokutai
I've always felt like Days Gone did really well for how bland and unappealing it looked on surface level, especially as it came out when people were also getting bored of the zombie craze. I think it was just Sony who somehow expected more than its almost 10 million sales, but I wouldn't call that a bomb in any shape or form.
regemond
Oh shit, you're both right! 13th best selling PS4 game, apparently! Considering how its spoken about you'd think it sold about 6 copies, total. My mistake!
Nag
Days Gone was great, way too long and Deacon was borderline mental but I enjoyed it a lot... I should really play it again tbf.
