mfnick
Lot of rumours seem to have panned out. New PS+ coming. 3 tiers. Current, 2nd which has a catalogue of PS4 and PS5 games playable. 3rd and biggest one has a catalogue of PS1-PS3 games through the cloud. Costs £100 a year for that 3rd one though 😳 https://blog.playstation.com/2022/03/29/all-new-playstation-plus-launches-in-june-with-700-games-and-more-value-than-ever/#sf255029422
Maf
Quote The new Extra and Premium tiers represent a major evolution for PlayStation Plus. With these tiers, our key focus is to ensure that the hundreds of games we offer will include the best quality content that sets us apart. At launch, we plan to include titles such as Death Stranding, God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Mortal Kombat 11, and Returnal. God of War and MK are already apart of the Playstation Collection thing they have but Returnal and Spider-Man are great additions. Quote We’re working closely with our imaginative developers from PlayStation Studios and third-party partners to include some of the best gaming experiences available with a library that will be regularly refreshed. More details to come on the games we’ll have on our new PlayStation Plus service. This will be interesting. Is this going to be a PS Vs Xbox bidding war, and how much overlap will there be? £100 per year not too bad but if it's all the same games then might not be worth it. Wonder if exclusives start getting complicated like you can buy it outright on Xbox but it can't be on Gamepass if it's on PS+, etc. Quote When the new PlayStation Plus service launches, PlayStation Now...will no longer be available Yay
one-armed dwarf
I would like to just be allowed to download the PS1 games I've already bought on PS3 I dont want to sub, I dont use my ps enough for it to be worthwhile, especially at 90 euro a year or whatever it is
DANGERMAN
it's a bit underwhelming isn't it. It's not that it's bad as such, it's exactly what a combination of PSNow and PS+ is, it's just that after all this build up it's a bit tame. As @one-armed dwarf says, it'd be more interesting if it threw in access to all your old games, and an emulator to play your old DVD (cd wont work seemingly) games
spatular
yeah i agree, same as nintendo, its a shame the they don't let you buy the older games individually or let you play ones you've already bought. i might sign up for a bit to give the older games a go depending which ones are on there. DisturbedSwan
I've always thought this would be underwhelming and couldn't really understand why folks were that hyped about it. I'm glad they're offering a sub service like this to compete with GP but I won't sub as I've too many games to play as it is and haven't touched Game Pass alone since the start of the year. I think anyone who was expecting to play their digital ps3 games they bought way back when was maybe hoping for a little too much from Sony lol. With the issues doing anything with PS3 games on modern systems I'm quite amazed they will be playable at all to be honest, so on that front I'm actually pleasantly surprised. Likewise with the PS1 and PS2 games. I think it's also key to remember that Game Pass was underwhelming when it first started. This is a good start and the price is about right for what it is. I may sub down the line to play Returnal or DS again or something, I didn't expect those kind of additions.
one-armed dwarf
With ps3 i get it, not so much with ps1 or even 2 tho. I don't accept as much that they can't come up with a way for us to play those on 5 and think its more due to them not being able to justify the cost of implementing a way of playing those old games natively on their side
Nag
I'll stick with my existing sub... day one exclusives were the only reason to change that and without them what's the point.
mfnick
Think my PS5 might be on its way out. Thought I’d have a go on GT7 for a bit to get those credits and my controller connection is getting worse and worse by the minute. Lag and input readings are getting more common, random disconnects have just started happening and my disc drive is making a horrid grinding noise. I’ve tried loads of methods for fixing found on Google and YouTube and none are working. Great… 😞

AndyKurosaki
I won’t bother increasing the cost of my Plus sub. Most of the games they give away on Plus are shit these days. If I didn’t have to have it to play online multiplayer, I probably wouldn’t bother with it.
shinymcshine
If they are going to make a bunch of PS1 games available through the new PS+ Tiers - are they making any updates to the control system ? I still dig out the occasion PS1 game to play, but some of the older titles are awful using the d-pad, really thumb shredding experiences - given our less than battle hardened thumbs from years of using thumbsticks.... Furthermore, older games still relied somewhat on game manuals, for control options and how to play - no easy tutorials on some of these games - are they putting any of that online to support things too ? Sly Reflex
The manual is digitised in games you bought for PS1 games back on the PS3/PSP/PSV, so I expect nothing will have changed since then.

Maf
https://www.eurogamer.net/playstation-5-finally-getting-variable-refresh-rate-support-this-week Seems like VRR might not work on every game. There’s a list of games getting patched so they will work with VRR (Elden Ring not included) Later in the article it says VRR “may” improve quality for unsupported titles. On Xbox the feature is ubiquitous because it works on a purely hardware level. So I wonder what the reason is on PS5 it needs to be supported by the game.
