retroed Posted March 4, 2011 Author Posted March 4, 2011 I just called Sony. They were really helpful once I got to speak to them (over 20mins on hold). They are sending me out a refurbished model of identical specs (Slim, 250GB) on Monday, and will take the old one away with them. I don't have to box it up or send them anything else, and they said it didn't matter that I didn't have my receipt. Result! Only thing is, is that I've lost all my saves, but I didn't have a lot on there anyway. I'm going to try to power it up and see if I can quickly grab anything before it dies again. I'll change my PSN password on the Playstation website just be on the safe side, too. EDIT: It won't stay on long enough to do anything. It's only my Uncharted 2 and Everybody's Golf saves I was worried about, but it's not the end of the world.

retroed Posted March 4, 2011 Author Posted March 4, 2011 I've just heard that if you put a hard drive from a PS3 into a new PS3, it does a format before you can do anything else. It's an anti-piracy measure. So even if I could keep the hard drive, I wouldn't have any of the stuff on it.

I switch it on (via console, pad doesn't do anything), it fires up then beeps three times and the red light flashes. Oh, and I get a single blip of a yellow light next to the USB ports. Happened to me last night. Except mine is a phat. Can I have the number you rang to sort it out with Sony please Ed?

retroed Posted March 10, 2011 Author Posted March 10, 2011 The PS3 still updates games when PSN is down, it appears. Just stuck Uncharted 2 in and it downloaded 9 updates before I could play. And then I started playing it from the start again. What a game.

All I have left to download is the mammoth Everybody's Golf online update. I've tweaked the display settings and synced my Blu-ray remote and trophies, so everything is like it was before, only without my saves The replacement PS3 Slim 250GB they sent looks brand new. I don't know if it is or not, I was told I'd be sent a refurbished unit, but the casing is immaculate.
