Prince of Persia : The Forgotten Sands

Ubisoft has confirmed the existence of a new Prince of Persia game subtitled The Forgotten Sands.

The game will be released "on consoles and handhelds" in May 2010, and feature elements you'll recognise from the Sands of Time series and exciting new elements you won't.

We spotted this in October when series creator Jordan Mechner filed a trademark to protect the name.

The game falls neatly alongside the Hollywood interpretation of the IP, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, which stars Jake Gyllenhaal and will be released on 28th May 2010.

But, just six months away from release, this announcement arrives unusually late.

Nothing more known about it, other than a trailer will be shown on the Spike Video Game Awards on the 12th of December.

I hope they dont just abandon the current PoP storyline. The main game may have ended shite last time, but the epilogue sets the sequels up nicely.

Ubisoft have gone all shit this gen, I loved their games last gen. The next Splinter Cell game looks great but I'll have to wait and see about this. This gens PoP had the ghost of Ass Creed about it so I didn't try it. Hopefully they will start again with this one.

Both look very different, not just graphically.

360 and PS3 Collector's Editions will include the PoP Classic game, whereas PC will include Sands of Time. All three will include extra skins and a bonus DVD.

I reckon I may have to pick up the 360 version, depending how well it reviews nearer the time.

It's made using the Assassin's Creed engine, and looks superb. I really want this game, as I am a huge fan of the original Sands Trilogy. And yes, the prince can be killed in this game.

Planned stuff for the game includes downloadable Prince of Persia classic, different skins, and survival mode. Even the PSP and Wii versions look great.

I don't know.

I really loved the first hour or two of Sands of Time where you were just using your abilities to get around the environment, could happily live without the combat. But then there was a big set-piece fight (the prince's father?) that I couldn't get past after a dozen or so attempts.

I put it away and I've never played another a PoP since. (Apart from the remake of the orignal on XBLA).

I never really like the old PoP games that much, nothing really got my interested. I do have the cel shaded one tho but barely touched it.

SoT was amazing. AMAZING. I've not actually got round to playing the angry sequel or the 3rd one, but I loved this gens version. More than likely I'll be picking this up
