back in the day it was a bit of a "thing" that Ryan hated Brad. He didn't, presumably, but it did seem to come across that way to a lot of people (I always thought he was a bit short with him), but it was probably just a case of Ryan, who could be a bit of a dick, being a dick to brad.

I do agree with you about Ryan though, he really made the effort, and if that wasn't natural for him he really made it seem like it was. He always brought a bit of energy to things and would humour people, if he ever left someone out to dry it was because it was funnier to do so.

I think Brad took over as host, partly to keep him awake, if he's not hosting he doesn't really pay attention, and partly because otherwise it's just Jeff talking. The eye contact thing, I think he is very shy, so it probably is a defence thing

I've got to admit, not that I hate him, but I'm not a Brad fan. He can have a thought out opinion, but he's not a particularly great critic, not that any of them are I guess. He's not funny (which isn't a problem in and of itself, he's always a good foil for Vinny), and he can a bit closed to other views, largely I think because he's sick of dealing with idiots on the internet, either way I unfollowed him on twitter at some point

I don't know what I think of Ben yet. He's said some funny stuff, but there's something about him that puts me off him when he's front and centre. He can't really be anything but with the staff the west coast have tbf, but his miss to hit ratio is high on his jokes. When they land though he's funny, and I think he's improved pretty quickly

There was a period that felt like a year (but probably only a couple of months) where after Ryan died the podcast was understandably flat. It took them hiring Dan and Jason for the magic to come back.

I was thinking the other day how perfect the East coast team is. Who's worth keeping in West? Pretty much just Jeff and Jason. Brad is boring, Ben is trying a bit too hard and Rorie makes Brad sound interesting.

But yeah, Jeff and Ryan were the best.

I just finished the second episode of Steal My Sunshine which considering what happened, it could've been a frustrating mess. But it was actually one of the funniest things I've ever watched.

East coast continues to kill it. The new Xcom series is a brilliant idea.

I hope they continue to use proper intros on other stuff now too.

I still need to listen to all of day four, and finish day three, but I couldn't help but jump into day five. What a journey.

Probably the bit that's annoyed me the most, and I think this was day two (best surprise), is Abby and her love for Mummy Demastered despite not playing it.

Yep that was pretty terrible.

I really hope they get enough feedback to mix it up going forward. A separate coast GOTY thing would be better. Too many people and too many people using strange tactics to get their picks higher up or remove games they didn’t like by standing by games they hadn’t actually played.

One and a half hours left of day five. I think Alex has been the most balanced and grounded of all the cast throughout. Abby has come worse off, and I really like Abby.

I felt a bit sorry for Dan by the end of Day 3. Granted it stems from his inability to look past the same 4 or 5 franchises, but I was amazed they didn't pick the Mario song for their top 3 moments, not that it would be my pick either, but Dan didn't put up much of a fight for it and didn't sound like he thought it was worth his effort.

?

I'm not finished with the last podcast yet, they're still arguing over the last few games to make the last 10.

There is a lot of moments where they're supporting or slating games they haven't played and being quite open about it. I get it, they should just stay quiet but I'd probably pick against Pyre because I didn't like Supergiants other games.

It comes across a bit like Abbey only played 3 games. I've not played PUBG but hearing her take every chance to say she doesn't like it then bang on about the same 2 games over and over. But then, as a whole, pretty much every category has been made up of the same group of games

I finally finished day 5 of the GotY stuff.

Man, that was rough going. I don’t think I ever want to hear another word about Cuphead or Dream Daddy ever again.

Yeah, I like Abby but she came across very young. I'm sure I'd have been as bad at her age, but oof

It was a bit annoying hearing them slate certain games for one thing (Nier and Wolfenstein for gameplay) but let others off (PUBG and Dream Daddy).

The way they're went about it made turned me a bit against some of the games I had no issue with or even was interested to try. I've bought Night in the Woods but I can't see it living up to the billing, and probably never give Dream Daddy a go now because what was a mild interest is now more of an eye roll. Shame, there's got to be better ways of making arguments

I remember Abby making a comment about the misogyny in Nier before she played it. I don't necessarily think there's no argument against how 2b is dressed, although I took it as symbolic that she's a servant. But Nier barely touches on sexuality, and when it does its not gazing, it's about the nature or purpose of it. I thought that was a shitty criticism and was glad to hear Alex and Ben counter it, expected a bit better from Vinny and Abby (from Brooklyn)

Between Alex’s words and @DANGERMANon our GotY podcast, I’m willing to go back to Nier.

That game more than any other on those shows had me interested to visit or revisit it.

Also....

Yakuza 0 got robbed.

If it wasn't for Breath of the Wild, NieR: Automata would have easily taken the top spot for me last year. I still think about it most days. And the soundtrack is possibly the best I've ever heard.

I just finished GOTY day 5. I was glad to read other people had mentioned Abby as again I’m a fan of hers but the only words she used seem to be “fun” and “very good”.

I thought Vinny was awesome, he’s constantly the voice of peace and sensibility and I think Alex is the same.

It was a good listen though, got me through a week of jobs.
