I've missed Brad geeking out on games Starcraft/DOTA/Quake etc and it looks like the new guy has similar taste. Jeff also seems to got a new burst of energy now too.
DANGERMAN Posted May 8, 2017 Posted May 8, 2017 I don't know why they've latched on to that game and not the million other identical ones, but the Battleground videos (Murder Island) are the best thing they've done in ages
DANGERMAN Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 Let me say this. I'm watching the Saturn stream they did, and it's frustrating how much they don't know, and it's frustrating how many good games Jeff will just dismiss or claim are bad but are actually fantastic However, he does love Elevator Action Returns and Zookeeper, which is secretly one of the greatest games ever made
retroed Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 I love their reactions during the Super Mario Odyssey trailer. Especially Dan and Jeff.
Hendo Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 I sincerely hope premium members have been watching the stream that just ended.
DANGERMAN Posted July 1, 2017 Posted July 1, 2017 I watched up to the tshirt game. I like Mary, they should have hired her (not as a replacement for Abbey though)
Hendo Posted July 1, 2017 Posted July 1, 2017 They got way more drunk after that. Vinny slagging off Twitch and saying how little CBS thought of Giant Bomb over Gamespot. Also drunk colour blind person being the bomb handler in Keep Talking And Nobody Explodes is pretty much perfect. "What wires do you have?" "I have red, green and blue." "No you don't! You don't have those colours at all!"
Craymen Edge Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 That stream was an entertaining trainwreck. Last week's Beastcast (episode 109) was off the rails in a really fun way too. I'm a bit behind on the east coast content at the moment, but really enjoyed the previous week's stream with Vinny and Abby playing PUBG.
retroed Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 Yeah, episode 109 is a classic. I'll try and watch the premium video later. I do like Mary Kish quite a lot.
Craymen Edge Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 This week's Beastcast is another beautiful train wreck. They need to hire that Jeremiah guy.
Hendo Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 I'm nearly finished with it now. I think Abby's Australian accent leaves a lot to be desired but if she was going for middle class middle England, then she nailed it. Speaking of voice changers:
Hendo Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 I think if you watch the video very closely (you may have missed this) it does in fact say that Mark Jeffries has no sense of humour. It's right after the little boy Santa/Satan skit.
DANGERMAN Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 Off topic but I've listened to a few episodes of Waypoint radio recently. It's got Patrick and Austin on it's and it's not bad. It's not funny like, but there's flashes of some of deeper thought, although the best bit came from one of their listeners (that tired narratives mean that the audience go in to them 2nd guessing everything because they recognise the trope) Anyway, I like Austin, but based on what I've heard he really needs his well meaning concern tempered. He was very blanket against the dev for what a racist misogynist he is, and it took the others to talk him down to see maybe he wasn't that bad. Then on the Binary Domain podcast he had to take a minute to decide if Cain, the French robot, was a male before deciding he calls himself Cain and doesn't object to people referring to him as masculine so it's ok to ascribe a male gender to him
Duck Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 The cinema food talk on the Beastcast. Dan. Dan. Dan. The end of the podcast was too good. The Ben and Abby appointments has given Giantbomb some of it's mojo back i think. I listen to the odd Waypoint, i like it when Rob is on as 3 Moves Ahead is a fav podcast mine. But the lady that used to be on Idle Thumbs voice annoys me.
DANGERMAN Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 @Duck yeah, I think rob was the one that put Austin straight on the E3 podcast about Last Night. And yes, her voice is a bit much. They always seem to talk over her and cut her off too, which is a bit harsh, but might be because I think it's all done over skype
Hendo Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 3 hours ago, mr lakitu said: Lol I was seriously asking. Craymen kept calling it a train wreck. I thought I was missing the joke and gbe was in the midst of a flame war. Nah, that wasn't the podcast, that was the pre-stream where they just test audio and visuals for the live streams.
Hendo Posted July 8, 2017 Posted July 8, 2017 I'm sure there's a lot of references you'll miss if you don't listen to the whole episode and indeed a lot of previous episodes (though for reference, Dan is a luddite that went through film school and only watches shitty action films) but here's the beautiful mess where we meet Jeremiah. Abby is the best thing to happen to Giant Bomb since Dan joined. West Coast is still spinning the wheels.
illdog Posted July 18, 2017 Posted July 18, 2017 I want to talk to you about Giant Bomb, here seems to be the right place. So, i've been backtracking. I've been listening to some 2013 shit from back in the day beacause I never knew Ryan and I wanted too, having listened to the podcast directly following his death and hearing all the nice things everyone had to say about him. Ive just listened to 2 random podcasts and I already know why he was so popular, he's a funny guy and I appreciate his enthusiam. He brings a real energy to the podcast and with the Vinny, Jeff, Partick and Brad backup it's an infinitely better listen than the podcast of today. Ryan energised Jeff too, the Jeff i've always known is fairly flat and seems to dislike most things and doesn't humour anything (or anyone) at all unless he finds it amusing and that seems to be slim in it's pickings. With Ryan though he made lots of jokes and seemed enthusiastic. Did anything else happen or did he just go flat after Ryans death? I understand why, I know they were best fucking buddies and loved all the same shit but I only really got into GB in 2016 so I don't know the whole running history. As a duo they like what I like - video games and hip-hop so I'm on board with what they have to say and I'm sad it's no longer a thing. I really appreciate Patrick on these older podcasts too, his opinion is extremely informed and he only seems to pipe up when he has an industry sermen to preach and no one argues with his shit cos he always seems to make a valid point. Which brings me to Brad. Back in the day he seemed like the whipping boy unless this c-section of history i've cut out has mis-informed me. He always has something to say that everybody else has a counter too, Jeff has always been that way toward him imo but I hear Ryan doing it too, almost like Brad annoys them a bit. So listening to him back then it seemed he was an odd choice as modern day host, did this surprise everyone or did he step up in later episodes. Watching him on the Ginat Bomb podcast video is uncomfortable for me, he seems to have a problem with eye contact OR Jeff's presense makes him a little nervous? I like the guy though, again he seems informed about the industry and comes off as intellegent for the most part, he just lacks the ability to crack wise. I'd be interested in anyone elses opinion.
