Jimboxy Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 So I've been given an iPad from work for the next three months (writing this on it now in fact). So far I quite like it, its very fast and responsive. The on screen keyboard is great, much better than the keyboard on my netbook. Not really going to buy to much for it as I've got to give it back eventually. I did get GarageBand though and it's marvelous. I'm surprised that there isn't any iPad versions of the major apps like Facebook and skype. iPod/phone apps look shit when they are upscaled and stupid at the original ratio.
Jimboxy Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 There shouldn't need to be. You have full screen net. It's only on iPhone because flash can be crazy you'd be forever zooming in and out. well, you can't access skype over the net, so there probably does need to be. Fair point about FB though.

Yeah that is a bit odd. You can log into skype online though. Don't know what you can do once in like... Not a lot, buy skype branded shit and credit.

spatular Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 so ipad 3/hd or something announcement today, anyone got any good rumours? or planning on getting one? i read it might have some sort of fancy touch feedback on the screen which sounds fancy and stuff. i'm quite excited about it oddly, despite not knowing what it is yet i want one (or a cheaper ipad 2) although all i'd use it for is the internet which i read too much as it is and the odd game. feelings similar to this really: it is a big waste of money but oh lord I want one.

The iPad HD gets its name from the heavily rumoured 2048x1536 pixel screen. Current iPads push out 1024x768 images. Digital Foundry investigated, in theory, how it was possible for Apple to reach such screen resolutions.That Apple's new tablet will be called iPad HD and feature that screen is apparently the talk of the Game Developers Conference this week. Even EA's casual game giant PopCap suggested it was on its way. "I think that tomorrow every game developer will have to scramble to get a new higher res version of their Apple games on the store," PopCap's franchise manager Giordano Bruno Constaible said on stage, reported by Gamesindustry International. As of time I'm typing this, the Store is down. So not long to wait.

That's over one million more pixels than your 1080p display running at 1920 x 1080. The new iPad has 264 pixels per inch, enough to call it a retina display, Apple said. It is expected to be held at 15 inches. It has 40 per cent better colour saturation. As for horsepower, the new iPad has an A5X processor with quad core graphics. It's twice as fast as the Tegra 3 and offers four times the performance, Apple said. All stock apps have been updated and optimised. Existing apps will be scaled up and text will automatically be rendered in higher resolution. Wi-Fi: £399 16GB £479 32GB £559 64GB Wi-Fi + 4G: £499 16GB £579 32GB £659 64GB apparently the 4g isn't actually 4g, just that in america you can say that and it not mean the same as it does here (or what 4g actually is). There's also a few people worried that the extra power doesn't cover the extra resolution, but then it's not like apps support that resolution yet. I expect a lot will get an update, and you'd have to worry some of them will update at the cost of performance Not that it's an option for me at the minute, but this one seems to be less worthwhile, the ipad 2 wasn't exactly lacking in power from my experience with it and they're still pointless

(they're useful for some people, but for me it would be pretty pointless, but i still want one, will have to get a tablet at some point to see what all the fuss is about anyway) wonder if it's true what thay say about the tegea 3...small amount of googling shows they are a bit off saying the ipad 2 is 2x the power: http://www.slashgear.com/asus-transformer-prime-vs-ipad-2-benchmark-tests-01199285/ transformer prime wins most of the benchmarks...but different hardware/os so hard to compare, and no tests for the new ipad obviously.

In 3 years even the cheap ones will have more than enough power to use as a fast web tablet and at that point they'll just be something you buy because you've got a weeks wages spare

Lo and behold, when I next used my iPad, they were on there too! Apparently I'd switched some automatic doodah on, that will simultaneously add apps to all devices associated with your iTunes account. That, for an old fogey like me, is nothing short of a technological marvel. I still hate the damn predictive tact thought.
