Given that you all have iphones, and this is just a big iphone essentially, not as useful as a netbook/laptop for work/writing, and it's massively expensive. Why do you all want one? Dont get me wrong the tech and the screen are awesome, but I cant think of a time I'd use this and not rather have an iphone or a netbook

Jimboxy Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 at home we use a dell mini 9 netbook, and its ok, not great. Its a bit glitchy, the screen is small, but its alright. If i'm just looking at the odd thing on the internet i'll pop on the iPod and have a look, as its much quicker and simpler. As i see it, this is a way to fill that void. It has the speed and simplicity of an iPod touch, but the screen size of a net book. I could see me using it a lot TBH, the web browsing and email is what really sells it for me. I can't see it being great (to begin with) for iPod gaming, as the screen looks a bit big to be shaking about and the likes. It would probably be good for reading book on, but i think the kindles electric ink screen would be easier on the eyes and more like paper. Overall, i think its a good device, yes i would like one and i think it would get a lot of use, however i won't be buying one, as i don't have that much money spare to buy it.
Hendo Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Same as Jim - it looks like the dog's for web surfing* and general farting around that I'd normally do on the laptop or phone when slumped on the couch or bed. There's no two ways about it though, it is a luxury device. You can get laptops for cheaper that won't be as limited in what you can do, but I think this looks like an awesome toy. *apart from the lack of flash, though I'd hope they patch that in. Bet they don't though.

Seems like they have made something which is a bit pointless if you ask me. People will still buy it in droves because it has the apple label on it though.

Seems like they are using the massive screen as a selling point. It's only selling point as far as I can see.

The thing that swung me about it is using it as an e-reader, to which one of them then picked up a big bastard hardback book and said. "that's what I use if I want to read a book!". It is a weird product - it needs a proper computer to sync with to do a lot of stuff (same as the iPhone and Touch), can't make phone calls and doesn't have a camera (though some pictures* have come out suggesting this is not the case) doesn't have the ability to USB connect to a lot of stuff like printers or whatever, but even still it just looks like a brilliant fun toy. They must think that the recession is nearly over, because this will likely struggle to go as mainstream as the iPod or iPhone. * 1, 2 and 3.

hinn888 Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Reading the paper today, that loads of ipads doesnt connect to the wi-fi anymore or dont recharge. So pretty much alot of the apps are rendered useless. Massive fail.
