Batman: Arkham City

A couple of Batman: Arkham City's pre-order incentives for US retailers have popped up on the game's official site, giving an idea of the kind of items we can expect if and when more surface in the run up to the game's release in October.

Offering pre-order links to Amazon.com, WalMart, Best Buy and GameStop on the site, only the latter two US retailers currently have bonus pre-order content on show. Best Buy is bundling a 'Combo Pack' with its pre-orders, which could be either extra moves or a burger meal, whereas GameStop is offering the 'Joker's Carnival' challenge map, which sounds good.

These are US-only pre-order incentives for now, but they could well end up being snapped up by retailers in other territories too. We would hope. And that's about it for now. No doubt more pre-order based details will crop up soon.

Arleen Sorkin pretty much owns the role of Harley Quinn -- well, she did. Sorkin, who helped create the character in the early 90s on Batman: The Animated Series, won't be voicing Harley in this fall's Batman: Arkham City (despite carrying on the role in the first game). Instead, veteran voice actor Tara Strong will take her first stab at Harley.

Strong has been doing cartoon and video game voice overs since the late 80s. Some of her roles include X-23 in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Rikku in Kingdom Hearts 2 and Sheegor in Psychonauts. She also voiced The Huntress in the Batman: The Brave and the Bold animated series.

A brief Q&A with Strong has been posted on the official Arkham City site, in which she says she wants to "honor" Harley's established voice -- but until we actually hear her rendition, we can't help but morn the loss of Sorkin.

That's a shame, Sorkin makes that character. Hopeully Strong can pull it off.

Batman: Arkham City is getting its own LED-lit, bat-logoed controller, Power-A tells Kotaku.

The officially licensed Batman: Arkham City controllers for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 include LED illumination effects with the ability to switch between seven built-in colors, dual rumble motors and soft-touch grips. The center bat buttons (from left to right) are: back, LED color select and start.

The PS3 version also includes motion sensing technology, an internal rechargeable battery, a Batman-themed USB RF received and 6-foot USB charging cable. The Xbox 360 version also includes an Xbox Guide button, and a 9.8-foot cable. The four lights on the left side of the controller shows the remaining battery charge, the four lights on the right show which channel the controller is using. The bat buttons (from left to right) are: battery charge indicator on and off, select, controller on and off, start and LED color select.

The controllers will be on display over at Power-A's E3 booth (West Hall, 5522) if you want to check them out.

Best Buy is currently listing a pre-order offer for Batman: Arkham City, in which you can bag yourself two exclusive challenge maps for the yellow-caped, red and green spandex-wearing Boy Wonder, Robin.

"While supplies last, pre-order the game for an exclusive downloadable Robin character. Play as Robin in two challenge maps,' states the pre-order offer blurb on the Best Buy website, which just about says it all really.

So, like the Joker before him, it looks like Robin has two of his very own challenge rooms coming to Batman: Arkham City. How Robin will fit in with his garish apparel is yet to be seen however, but we imagine Rocksteady will tone down the garish colours somewhat, giving the Boy Wonder a more muted look.

We get to play as Robin.. Yay... :awe:
