Sonic 4

I feel a bit of a cunt for moaning that the Sonic sprite (well, probably made of polygons, but you know what I mean) is not old school enough, but it doesn't look right to me.

Still, it has the SEGA singing theme at the beginning and that's a damn good start.

Yeah, there is something not quite right about that, I would have preferred ultra high res 2d like the Castle Crashers stuff. Feeling a bit meh about this now tbh.

That's a shame, if you're quick you can find it on other sites, but SEGA will no doubt take them down as well.

News for today on it, made by Dimps, not Sonic Team:

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is not being made Sonic Team or any internal SEGA studio, it's been revealed. The downloadable return to the series' 2D roots is instead being developed by Dimps, which made the Sonic Advance and Sonic Rush games.

The news was spotted by Kotaku on the game's Xbox Live Marketplace listing.

Dimps has plenty of experience with 2D Hedgehog games, having made the three-strong Sonic Advance series for the Game Boy Advance and Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure for the DS. It also co-developed Street Fighter IV with Capcom and has made a ton of Dragon Ball Z games.

It's a logical choice, if still a little surprising to see an external developer take on a banner entry in the main Sonic series.

What's the betting that it's not a new game at all, but a HD remake of the original?

Thought I'd just quote this because that boss looks awfully familiar. Really hope this isnt just a remake of the first game, though if its cheap enough id probably still buy it

I'd like to think there was some really clever shit going on there that would twist your brain as they completely spin that boss fight on its head. But it's probably exactly the same.

This is Sega. Unbelievably incompetent they are. :(

I don't think they're being lazy using an iconic boss, they seem to be desperate to make everyone nostalgic, "Remember this one guys?! The one with the ball!"

I suppose the internet has been shouting enough for this sort of thing, now they're getting it.

I think I will end up getting it, out of curiosity mostly.

And I don't like the graphical style, can't put my finger on why, it could be lack of sprites or something.

Same, I don't like it either. I need to see more of it in motion though, I think those two pics posted above look pretty bad.

I don't understand all the negativity about this. I think the two screen shots look very nice, graphics look ace despite the fact they aren't sprites.

Sure thats the first boss from Sonic 1, but it might be a wink to the past. It can't be all re-hashed otherwise they wouldn't be calling it Sonic 4.

Chillax people, I'm sure they have this under control.
