hinn888 Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Batman: Arkham Asylum Game of the Year Edition Goes 3DWritten Thursday, March 04, 2010 by Alan Pettit Square Enix (new owners of Eidos) have announced that they will be publishing a Game of the Year edition for Batman: Arkham Asylum which will include six new Challenge Maps and "TriOviz 3D" support for a complete 3D experience. The game will be bundled with a pair of 3D glasses to enjoy this "innovative new technology" for a "more immersive gaming experience." The Batman: Arkham Asylum "Game of the Year" edition will be coming to Europe on March 26th with no confirmed North American release date just yet. It will also be coming to Games for Windows Live, and both versions will have a fresh set of achievements. With the existing PC release, a Japanese release and these two new releases, that is now five total versions of Arkham to explore for the truly dedicated achievement whores out there.
Craymen Edge Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 I'm playing this on PC. I don't think much of the keyboard & mouse controls, but luckily it's plays just perfectly with a wired 360 pad. The beginning is very linear, in terms of just keep walking forward and you'll get to where you need to be, but entertaining as well so it's forgiveable. Combat makes you feel like a proper badass, as you should I suppose.
retroed Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 I started this again tonight on PS3, having picked the GOTY edition up on the cheap at Zavvi. If you're thinking of purchasing it purely for the 3D, don't bother. It works OK, but isn't anything special. I've already switched the mode off and put the glasses back in the case. I've put about 90 minutes in so far, and I'm loving it as much as I did last year. I have a load of games to play, some I haven't started, but all I want to do is play this. One of the games of the generation, without a doubt.
David Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 It's the closest game this generation to feeling like Resi 4 (Not even 5 does). I dunno how really, considering they're pretty different games, but it just has that something.
Sly Reflex Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 So, started playing this when I got in from work this morning and woah! Just woah! It's like a Batman version of Metroid Prime. I wasn't won over by the demo, it seemed a bit lacking and tacked together, if anything it actually put me off getting the game before now. The only real problems I can see with it are that some of the peoples faces are a bit 'off' and taking pictures of riddles is a fucking pain in the arse, it could have done with some sort of reticule. I spent about 2 minutes trying to take a picture of a see saw and it just wouldn't recognise it, should have been a case of pressing once or twice and then it been done. What really has blown me away is the quality of the Jokers voice acting, it's head and shoulders above anything I have ever come across in a game. Mark Hamill should be turning jobs away if this performance is anything to go by. It's incredible.
HandsomeDead Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 I was the same, dude. It's a pretty immense game. I thought the voice work was of a pretty high standerd overall, they got that comic book madness down pretty bloody well. Actually, shit, no. I didn't like Harley Quinn's voice work in the diaries, she seemed bat shit insane from the word go, how the fuck some mental case became a shrink, fuck knows?.. but the rest is great.
Sly Reflex Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 I put 6 hours into it today alone.. I wish I had put it on normal, usually on PS3 I just bang everything on easy because I am playing more for the story, but I think I have fucked up here. Should have started on normal, or even hard.
HandsomeDead Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 I put 6 hours into it today alone.. I wish I had put it on normal, usually on PS3 I just bang everything on easy because I am playing more for the story, but I think I have fucked up here. Should have started on normal, or even hard. I played it on hard from the start. I saw the patronising attack prompts from the demo, I thought I'm having none of that in the proper game. Some fights were troublesome midway through but it makes you get a good grasp of the combat system, which lends itself really well to high level play. I'm sort of glad I played it that way, but it meant no replay value, as I did all the Riddler shit, too.
Sly Reflex Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 The Riddler stuff is great, although like I mentioned, getting the fucking things to register sometimes is a pain in the arse. It's even worse if you t are not sure. The one that I am having trouble with now is something about a riddle coming out of thin air, which I think is something to do with breeze or wind, given there are fans on the roof. I dunno, it's a great idea, but the execution of actually answering them could have been way better.
Hendo Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 Might even be my fave game this generation. This, pretty much. I was thinking the other day that this game stands as the reason I don't want the new Castlevania, because this style of game is what I like about normal Castlevania.
Sly Reflex Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 I'm glad you love it. I was wondering after all the praise everyone's given it, if someone coming to it now would find it over-hyped or something. Gonna have to make a second run through soon. One of the main reasons I held of playing. The others were that I had heard people speak about it and gush over certain bits which sort of spoiled the whole thing, enough time has passed for me to forget these throw away comments. Last one was price. SP games always always drop in price, the cheaper the better. I think I am right at the end now. I could do lots of gushing about this game, and I probably will at some point, but until it's done I will hold it in until I feel it is safe to do a massive bat shaped bukkake on all of your faces.
Pikman Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 Picked this up for a tenner this week and That is all
retroed Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 This is one of those games that I'd love to experience for the first time again. Enjoy, and savour every minute.
retroed Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 I'm playing the GOTY edition on 360 now, I want to finish a second playthrough before Arkham City arrives. It's still as good as it was the first time I played it, over two years ago. Game of the generation.
Manicm Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Would agree game of the generation, its just awesome, the fighting, flights, and the overall feel of the game, very tempted to buy it again for the xbox. Must resist that urge, although its strong at the moment!
hinn888 Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 I still havn't finished it & i reduse to pick it up the new one till i have!
Manicm Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 How can you not of finished this hinn?? im the worlds worse gamer, not sure if ive completed more than 5 or 6 games this year but even i have completed this game.
hinn888 Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 I have no idea! I bought the HMV Exclusive the day it came out, got well into it and just never looked back and then stopped half way..
halfagogo Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 ive had the goty since christmas (3d glasses & everything) but still havent started.
wholehole Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 I recently hoovered up the remaining achievements on this, all on the challenge maps (infuriating at times, but necessary). In doing that it prompted me to start yet another playthrough before the new game arrives . Still one of my favourite games of this generation, it's just fucking incredible, and i'm expecting the sequel to be miles better.
