Hendo
I'd love to go but it sure is expensive to get down there. How do the locals react? Is it positive feelings that the island is making some dough or pissed off that they can't park anywhere?
pickled
we dont need to come to no steeeeeeeeenking island for festivals, we have loads on the big island though bestival always seems appealing, and i believe that's on your little island

I know, even the cost of a Virgin walk-on rail fair from Lancashire to Euston topped an eye-watering £230 post xmas! And thats not counting the cost of a ferry across the water to France or wherever. Sly Reflex
A few friends went to see the Sex Pistols and Kaiser Chiefs one (last year?) and it was horrendously expensive. Especially as I live in Leeds and have a festival on my doorstep. We also have a game festival in Leeds this year. I'm totally all over that. HandsomeDead
We have fuckall like that and getting to another is pricey. I think they tried one year and all that tuned up were some local bands and Feeder.

We don't really have a specialised area for shows, unless you go down to Sheffield. They were going to build an arena in Leeds, but Sheffield started bitching about it and it was put on ice. HandsomeDead
I mean we don't have festivals near by, but venues I guess either Newcastle or Manchester, Carlisle might get the odd thing but nothing that's not managed to garner much interest. I remember effectively l listened to a Bob Dylan concert for nowt. Good stuff. I forgot to say, Stirling Castle is in Broken Sword I think. Also, yes, Dylan is an acquired taste and I'm not a fan. I take the viewpoint that he's better off giving all his songs away for other people to perform and finish off for him.
David
I wouldn't say I'm a fan either, but I sort of enjoy listening to his songs, even if I can't understand what the hell he's singing about.

Those country pubs on Wight always look nice & cosy in the brochures - specially down at Shanklin. I'll always remember my Grandparents going there years ago on a Shearings holiday! illdog
On to 2012, thought this might be of interest to some... Tom Petty joins Festival line-up AMERICAN rockers Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have been announced as the Friday night headliners for next year's Isle of Wight Festival. The iconic rock band, known for hits such as American Girl and Refugee, are, in the words of the promoters, Solo, first and foremost a live act, with their 2010 USA tour selling more tickets than they had ever sold before. They will join Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, who headline the Sunday night, Noel Gallagher, Biffy Clyro, Elbow and Madness among acts already announced. The Vaccines, Noah and the Whale and The Christians are also playing. John Giddings, festival promoter, said: "We are proud to present Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers at the Isle of Wight Festival finally — it has taken years to achieve but I'm sure it will be worth the wait. "They are one of the greatest rock and roll bands of all time." The 2012 Isle of Wight Festival takes place at Seaclose Park between June 22 and 24.
