DANGERMAN Posted June 28 Posted June 28 @radiofloyd I liked what I heard of that Bonnie Prince Billie album, but leaning in to that sound is a problem once the novelty wears off
Guest Posted July 5 Posted July 5 Got the Sabbath farewell on livestream, given couldnt afford a ticket
Craymen Edge Posted July 17 Posted July 17 I only found this channel quite recently, the spiral freestyle videos are great. I've watch this one so many times.
mfnick Posted July 22 Posted July 22 Clipse are back and it’s fucking incredible. Been listening since release, love it. Pusha has been brilliant since they split but having them together again is something else. Malice needs to be put in the GOAT conversation.
Metroid66 Posted August 22 Posted August 22 My eldest brat recently brought my old vinyl collection down from the loft to create a backdrop for his music channel where he's started to do reactions and reviews etc. It's been many years since I had the equipment to play these old records, the vast majority of which are 70s rock/prog/folk type stuff with a bit of fusion and classical thrown in for good measure. They're all in excellent condition tho. I really looked after them back in the day. I've always flirted with the idea of getting a new turntable and system but family life sort of put me off, plus the way I've gotten used to listening to music these days - phone or other device connected to a Bose Bluetooth speaker which can be carried around to any free room in the house. Seeing those old records really put me into nostalgia overload tho. A bit of googling later and I was amazed to find you can now grab a Bluetooth turntable! Problems solved. Check out this mother. So in answer to the thread topic, what am I currently listening to? Feckin everything. 3
one-armed dwarf Posted August 22 Posted August 22 It's super weird when you go into a music shop and the vinyl selection is the biggest thing there, bigger than CD or bluray movies. They have this sort of art piece presentation thing to them I fear in the future when I get on the property ladder that vinyls will become a fixation, but I have not tried to keep up with music since like 2010 when I had a harddrive full of stuff I downloaded from /mu/ 1
Metroid66 Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Being an old bastard I'm well ahead of the game and my sizeable collection is chock full of sought after classics. Looking some stuff up on the shopping part of Google I'm sitting on thousands 💰
Maryokutai Posted August 22 Posted August 22 I've been picking up vinyls occasionally, also noticed that it's the only format some artists/bands sell their music on anymore when you go on a concert and check their merch booth. CDs really have become a niche. Don't have a record player at the moment, but I hope I'll find a nice spot for one some day. They're surprisingly affordable (the turntables, not the vinyls) and with all the digital in- and outputs you can pretty much hook them up to whatever sound device you own these days. Also nice to see the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, @Metroid66 1
Guest Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Think Cds are making a slow recovery, the younger generations are apparantly getting tired of not owning their music. Cds being cheap are prooving a good second option
DANGERMAN Posted August 24 Posted August 24 @Maryokutai careful if you do by a record player, don't get one with built in speakers, they tend to be poor quality. You also need to look for what type of cartridge it has (the needle basically). I'm no expert, but that's what I looked in to for mine. Handily it has bluetooth in, so I've bought a cheap CD player with bluetooth out, so I can make use of the better speakers on the record player I'm trying to limit my vinyl buying. It was supposed to be decorative, then it was just my favourite albums, now it's quickly descending in to whatever seems interesting or a bit of a bargain, and I've already got an expensive hobby for that. I also bought a CD the other day, as a general rule, if it's the same price digitally as physically I'll just get the CD and rip it myself. So I bought Deftones - Private Music, which seems good but I've not had the chance to listen to it properly yet 1
Maryokutai Posted August 24 Posted August 24 Yeah, whenever the moment comes I'll do some proper research. A friend of mine is also a huge audiophile so he can certainly nudge me in the right direction, too. But thanks for the heads-up.
Metroid66 Posted September 24 Posted September 24 The last great Genesis album. And I don't care what Patrick Bateman says, the kill crazy nutter. Best thing about vinyl is the lyric sheets can actually be read by human eyes. 2
Maf Posted October 28 Posted October 28 I don’t want to post without comment but also what to say. Very real
