Maf
I’m not saying I think it’s bad. And have only listened to it once. But after that listen I can say I’m pretty underwhelmed by it (surprise drop or not) especially after hearing the first track (posted above) which is incredible. The rest of the album is only Ok. mfnick
So you’ve listened to it once and it’s underwhelming and ok? Again, I’d say 1 listen and a few days after release isn’t enough to decide that. Fair enough if you still feel like that if you keep listening to it on and off over the next few days and weeks but are you likely to do that or just decide it’s just ok within a couple of listens and move on? Maf
I guess I just don’t find it compelling. About half of the album sounds like club bangers and that’s not me at all. Even though I think Kendrick is god-tier rapper one thing I think is weak about him is he’s rhyming. He’s actual rhymes and patterns and such are a a bit weak most of the time, but more than made up for with content, insightfulness and amazing music. Which is what i love about Kendrick’s music and what I’ve come for But this just sounds like club songs so there’s really not much here for me. I’ve only listened to the album in full once. But I’ve clicked on a few videos and reactions to certain songs and even though these have been select. They quickly solidify what I thought on the first listen. That most of this album is just not for me. Reincarnated is great, though. Sounds very 2pac
mfnick
Yes that is absolutely homage to 2Pac. Got the same delivery, voice and sample of one of his tracks. Remember when Drake used AI to do 2Pac? I feel this is a direct response to that. Guess fair enough if you don’t like the more club style beats - when it comes to genres of music it’s absolutely fair to just not like some. So far I’m loving this album. Just hope it’s not a bright but short burn for me.
Maf
I think i]the concept of the song is speaking about dead, black musicians. Apparently the first verse is about Hendrix. Not sure who the second verse is about. But think that’s why he’s done it in a very Pac style because dead, black singer + west coast reincarnated
mfnick
Yea, absolutely. Edit - Genius has a different artist. Not sure on who it is to be honest. Quote In the song, Kendrick writes about artists to whom he feels connected both artistically and personally: his past lives. The first is John Lee Hooker, a revolutionary R&B guitarist from Michigan whose breakthrough single was released in 1948. The second, a female Chitlin' Circuit vocalist who achieved widespread fame and fortune but struggled with substance abuse, is most likely Dinah Washington. I assume he uses the 2Pac delivery and beat as a way of paying homage to him as another artist he connects with on the same track. & as a bonus just shows up Drake on how much of a BS move that AI shit was. Maf
So there is more Kendrick incoming Sound more like my shit as well Semi-Related If music labels really are using bots, manipulating stream numbers and doing dodgy deals on royalties to game the system and promote one artist over another, than Drake’s lawsuit and a potential victory would probably really help the industry. But he probably only knows about it because they did it for him and also the pic above, yeah he about to snitch on himself 🤣
mfnick
As some others have said this shit is extra funny when you think he could have sued if we defamation of character with the whole Pedo stuff but instead suing over a song being more popular than his. Also this will definitely be snitching on himself if it’s true. There’s no way this hasn’t happened with his shit. Especially when Scorpion came out. Either way, an absolute bitch move and he’s being rightly dragged over the coals about it. If this stuff is happening it needs to be sorted, but doing it during a rap beef. Proper sore loser energy. & more Kendrick - Hell yes! Hope so. Don’t want to get into it again really but listened to the album another couple of times & I just don’t get the club music criticism now I was actually thinking about it while listening. There’s only a couple of tracks like that? Rest of them have pretty hard beats and subjects. Just on Kendrick vs Drake again. I can’t explain how much I’m loving this. I fucking hate Drake & love Kendrick so it going like this makes me so happy. Plus for me it’s made Kendrick come out with some of my favourite music of his since GKMC. Kind of like when Em dropped Revival and all the hate made him bounce back with the angry passionate rapping in Kamikaze.

one-armed dwarf
Listening to Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights and it's a song I've heard tons of times but for some reason never actually knew that it was called 'Wuthering Heights' and based off the book, and when you know how the book ends and the things it suggests about Heathcliff's turn towards the end it's sort of a very powerful and emotional coda to the whole thing. Never thought about how a song can do something like that, for a book Spoiler In the book it's suggested but never outright stated that Heathcliff speaks to the ghost of his old lover off-page and is essentially spirited away into the afterlife, happy for the first time in his life as he dies, which is what the song is all about.
