I picked this up yesterday - ABBA - The Albums

I decided that I needed my ABBA knowledge to be more than just ABBA Gold/More Gold! Its basically all 8 studio albums plus a CD of extras. There are no surprises - it is all very ABBA and you already know if you will like it or not. It comes in a nice little box with the usual booklets and covers.

Plus 'Bang a Boomerang' and 'Dum Dum Diddle' are two of the best song titles ever.

Oh nice! Sounds very cool, not what I was expecting at all.

After messing about with Spotify I went back into the iTunes radio stations for the first time in years and found myself a really cool old school cool jazz station. It reminds me to fill my phone back up with more of my Miles collection. I wish it was an 80Gig phone. :(

I know Oli has brought this up before, but after being badgered for ages about it, I finally gave in to a mate and got the latest Panic! At The Disco album, "Pretty Odd".

It hasn't blown me away as much as it did him but it was pretty surprising and good.

Not wimpy emo metal in any way, but very Beatle-esque, in fact very Abbey Road with lots of nonsensical lyrics about the sun and with horns, strings, big harmonies and sing along endings.

Really good stuff.

Also went on another old jazz session with Billie Holiday, Charles Mingus, Dave Brubeck, Django, and then ended with a little bit of Elvis.

I got the new Antony & The Johnsons album last week, I've only listened to it a handful of times but so far it seems pretty good. It's probably got a higher average than I am a Bird Now, but it's not a massive diversion from that so it doesnt have the same impact. I'm enjoying it bar a couple of the lyrics, particularly the epilepsy song. I get the imagery he's using but it's a bit 6th form.

I've also been listening to Yndi Halda (enjoy eternal bliss) and Russian Circles (Station) both are more post rock stuff, which I was trying to get away from but there just doesn't seem to be much else appealing to me at the minute, or at least not that I'm hearing. The former is more like Godspeed and Explosions ITS, the latter is heavier with a bit more meat to it

Not really a hip hop fan, but this keeps coming on when I play SKATE 2 amongst the likes of The Clash and its just got stuck in my head, and to be honest, I actually REALLY like it. Is the rest of Public Enemy's stuff like this? and does SKATE 2 have a great soundtrack or what?

I've mentioned them a few times in the old thread (probably in here too) but Mono have a new album out, and it's absolutely stunning.

They used to be a bit too similar to Mogwai, but on their last few albums they've started to get more delicate, and Hymn To The Immortal Wind is the natural extension to that. By the end of the album it's almost turned into a classical score, easily the most beautiful work they've done and I'd say it's going to take a bit to beat it for my album of the year

Click on the image to hear Ashes in the Snow, takes a while to get going as it's the first track on the album

My girlfriend and flatmate went to see Mono the other night in our local pub, they said it was the best gig they've ever been to. I still haven't listened to any of there stuff yet though.

Bought some songs on iTunes for the first time, through my phone.

Bought 3 songs off the Once soundtrack, "Falling Slowly", "When Your Mind's Made Up" and "Say It To Me Now".

And then I bought the whole of the Alphabeat album. :)

I bought a new CD! First one this year.

DOOM - Born Like This, and im very glad i did. Apparently he's been working 3 years on it, dropped the MF and here we are. I think Doom is excellent lyrically, he tells a good story and always manages to make me laught somewhere along the line.
