The thing with the card game mentioned above reminded me of FFVIII and how a remake of that could have had a triple triad app, but then I remembered that FFVIII actually did the companion app before anyone, I think (it sucked and never released here except on PC)

Weren't there GB / GBC games that you could link together two GBs (using cable) and use one access extra stuff - such as an inventory screen, map etc

Can't recall for sure but think maybe one of the Zelda games had it

There was then the GC to GBA cable later on too.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time had cosmetic unlocks when you linked GBA and GC, I remember that specifically.

Same with Metroid Prime and (I think) Zero Mission.

And LoZ: Wind Waker was the Zelda that had a GBA link up option. It was for maps, I think.

How the fuck can I remember 20 year-old console link-up bullshit but I can't remember to put the bins out on a Friday night half the time?

This just seems like they are updating the xbox app on PC to be a universal launcher like GOG galaxy is, I think.

Putting steam itself on xbox would be sort of dumb I think, then they get to complain about too many launchers as well cause there's no real benefit

edit 1 benefit maybe, if it lets you play xbox ports of PC games on your steam on xbox thing I suppose and there's cloud saving

Yeah, I’m sure that was a question raised on a DF podcast. I’m not sure. If Steam did end up on Xbox, surely publishers would have to sign off on their games being sold or distributed on another 3rd party platform. Maybe Sony could step in and withdraw their PC versions of games being sold on Steam via Xbox

Also what about games that don’t have Xbox versions at all?

I don’t know. Very confusing situation, but I’m sure Spencer said that out loud in to a camera that they wanted Steam on Xbox

It’s definitely been mentioned before by Spencer/the Xbox team. Had the same questions back then? Does this mean games I buy on steam which have Xbox versions I can now play without having o buy again? What happens to MS’ 30% software cut of thats the case? Surely they don’t get it at that point? Makes no sense. Unless it’s just the PC app working like GOG Galaxy as mentioned by Dwarf.

Isn’t this just the Xbox app for PC? Because it seems weird calling a Xbox ui update an Xbox app.

The article seems to suggest it’s on pc and a shortcut to see your steam library although the text below each image contradicts themselves.

The handheld might just run Windows and the Tablet might stream it. But I am confused as to why both Series consoles are shown there. Because up until now I felt like there wouldn't be a need for 'Xbox versions' anymore because Xbox would just be a PC with a dedicated UI. So you wouldn't really need to port it to what would previously considered an Xbox SKU because there won't be any. Which would also stop Sony from having leverage to force Steam to block purchases via that hardware simply because of its branding, which would be closer to the likes of Alienware and such rather than a traditional console model.

But Steam on their current-gen consoles? No idea how that would work.

yeah, to get Steam games on Xbox consoles you'd need them to find a way to boot Steam games in some sort of emulator, or run Windows. which it doesn't. I don't know, seems more likely to be a bit of UI weirdness or something for whatever they're doing next

I suppose Valve could make a version of Steam that works on Xbox, but I don't see why they would

Quick Resume - this is a great feature, so I can just straight back into a game to resume after a break

The question is though - if I can do that then, as clearly the technology allows, why do I have to wait 2-3 mins for loading screens, or post death reloads during normal gameplay?
