Microsoft Consoles and Updates

I'm not sure non-gamers are going to bite on that ad campaign either. As others have said, it's got the same problem every other cloud based gaming thing has had, including Microsoft. On paper it might be easier to be able to play on anything, especially stuff you already own, but in reality people just understand games consoles for gaming

To me it seems obvious it's about the cloud, I've no idea if it is to anyone else. I feel like if people want to play something they'll just go and buy a cheap Switch or something

Yea it has to be Cloud otherwise it’s impossible. But so far that’s only a very select few GP titles. Until they have the majority working (as they say they’re working on) they’re jumping the gun a bit.

But yea, I agree. Like I said earlier it’s been proven many times this doesn’t bring in none gamers still. They’re not interested. Maybe pique curiosity & make it as easy as possible by including a free, synced controller with all fire sticks and TVs but even then you’re only going to get a tiny percentage follow through with it.

I don't think the cloud needs every game to be worthwhile marketing (if you assume it is at all). But yeah, it's still not where it needs to be for anyone

I've used it a couple of times on my Steam Deck. The problem with that is my Steam Deck already has games on it, ones I've paid for. I'm not really looking at what I could be playing from Xbox, plus doing that is still a bit hacky

In an adjacent aside, it's interesting to note that whilst Netflix has a growing games library, it's not something you can access directly through their streaming service, but instead via smartphone/ tablet.

i.e. they have made a clear decision not to put these as direct cloud access games you could play on your TV.

No, but at the minute it’s just a select number of Game Pass titles. It’s a small percentage of an already small percentage of games.

Maybe they'd be better either changing the name of Game Pass to Xbox (because their names aren't already messy enough) or changing the marketing to "this is Game Pass"

So I did this once before but here is a quick screenshot of PC gamepass with "play anywhere" filter applied and the amount of games drops from 457 to 205. When I remove "play anywhere" filter and only have "cloud enabled" it drops to 52.

It's just not good enough to sell this as a big feature of the Xbox ecosystem and is extremely deceptive to make an ad campaign around it

Yeah, that's what I pointed out the other day. It makes no sense labelling this after a piece of hardware. Me, as an Xbox owner, can't play my retail games anywhere other than on my Series X, so none of those devices I might potentially own 'is an Xbox'. And why on earth would a more casual observer pick up their iPhone, look at it and go 'I suppose Apple was lying, this is an Xbox'.

I realise I'm taking this a bit too literal just for the sake of the argument, but again, I don't think someone previously uninterested in Xbox is going to hop online, check out which hoops to jump through to get Gamepass on their phone and then double-check which games are on. Only to find out GTA6 won't be there and then move on.

I don't know what's going on over there but outside of being a phenomenally good meme-generator I don't see this campaign doing anything for them, except maybe pushing away their most hardcore fanbase. They're watering down the Xbox brand instead of expanding it, it won't really have any meaning in five years time anymore.

It’s PC Gamepass, and it’s only Gamepass games and not the whole store.

I think Gamepass would probably be the most used. And I noticed Dragon Age Inquisition which I played on Cloud the other day on Xbox, is not available on PC

The compatibility is too random

Ok, so the whole store on PC

2007 games available

image.png

Play anywhere filter 512

image.png

Cloud enabled 181

So play anywhere is 25.5% of total games

Cloud enabled is 9.01% of total games

And again you don't even know which games will be compatible unless you look

It's just not good enough

  • 3 weeks later...

Does anyone on here use the points you earn by being a Game Pass member on the rewards? The only ones available at the moment seem to be donating to charities or entering a sweepstake... I hope to god they've not taken away the ability of using them to get credit or extra months of Ultimate.

Seems a bit weird tbh...

PC layout is rather bloated, so mine in text form:

829 hours

68 games (???)

10212 GS

1. Overwatch 2

2. Street Fighter 6

3. Elex II

4. Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

5. Flintlock

Funnily enough with my meagre 10k GS I'm in the top 1% of GS earners. I suppose people really do just use their Xboxes to watch Netflix or something.

Top 5 played games were

1) P3 Reload - 144hrs

2) Lords of the Fallen - 44hrs

3) Assassin’s Creed Mirage - 35hrs

4) Plague Tale Requiem

5) Black Ops 6

Doesn’t give me the hours for the final 2

An interesting split for me was time between console and PC
