Google Chrome

I'm currently giving this a proper bash for a few days. Any tips and can you get add-ons like Firefox? I could do with an email notifier at least.

They've just opened a store for games and stuff, if they're only playable through Chrome then I can't see them being that successful.

Most of the popular firefox ones are there (apart from a youtube downloader, anyone would think google owned them or something)

Quite digging it at the moment. Having the tabs at the very top of the page is strange, as is having the google search bar and the address bar in the same place, but it's not that far off from FF. I've imported my bookmark folders running under the address bar, which helps.

Looks good though, very clean. If anything a bit too clean, I had to add a home button in, can't believe that isn't in by default.

I've never really found the need for widgets and add-ons. I've got a twitter one for Opera, but still tend to use my phone instead. Same with Chrome, I use it as my spare browser and like that it's quite basic, it keeps it fast

I might look into Chrome a bit more now the adblock style tools actually block ads and associated code like Firefox and Opera do (i.e. blocks them at source and doesn't download them) rather than downloading it all, then hiding bits. Is there a NoScript equivalent?

But yeah, I do sometimes find it a bit too simplified.

I've got a problem with iTunes, kind of.

I open iTunes links so it shows you the description page and then you can click to open it in iTunes itself, however on Chrome it insists I have to download iTunes 10 first. I already have iTunes 10. There doesn't seem to be much that will convince it otherwise.

I had the same problem the other week when trying to watch trailers on the apple site, said I needed to download quicktime, despite being on a MAc (which I'm fairly certain includes quick time..) TBH I think its more of an Apple problem than a Chrome problem though.

Jim could be right, and tbf it is apple. But I've had the same issue in a couple of browsers for a while, I think since the last itunes update came out

I know it's a Chrome thread but the latest version of Opera (11) has just come out. Among the new features is a secure® web bar, which lets you clear all the data too. I'll be honest I dont know what the point of that is but it looks nice. It's also got the predictive search that google uses. E.g. just go to the web bar and start typing with a "g Who's the black private dick

The coolest one though is tab stacking. Again it initially seems slightly pointless, but surprisingly I've already used it. If you've got multiple tabs open of a similar theme, you can drag each one over another and it layers them, so they only take up the one tab space. And because Opera shows you an image of each tab without you clicking on it (if you hover your mouse over it) you can use that to select which of the multiple tabs you want to read
