one-armed dwarf Posted December 2, 2022 Posted December 2, 2022 iirc, you can press 'login' and press the 'x' to stop that and the prompt fucks off tho George Hotz made a big deal about removing that specific login modal, looks like the dude didn't do a good job of that lol edit maybe this works https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1598205376909942788.html https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1594724708309553152.html
DisturbedSwan Posted December 2, 2022 Posted December 2, 2022 Holy shit, I never knew you could do that lol, I feel like an idiot.
DisturbedSwan Posted July 12, 2023 Posted July 12, 2023 I've switched over to Threads now after sacking off Mastodon and Hive. https://www.threads.net/@disturbed_swan
HandsomeDead Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cvg41n533zno.amp Musk's Twitter is now banned in Brazil. This happened due to some disinformation accusations. You can call it a potentially bad slippery slope but it is rife with disinformation so they do need their feet held to the fire. 1
one-armed dwarf Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 I've reported a few posts on there and every time I get an email back it says something like 'our automated systems found no issue with this, but thx anyway'. One of those posts I reported was an image of Hitler saying that we should apologise to him. Like yeah at a certain point if you aren't going to clean up your act what the fuck else is going to happen That said the part here where they talk about imposing huge fines on people if they access twitter via a VPN and banning VPNs in general is really stupid. You cannot ban VPNs in our globalised economy when they're a requirement for certain jobs, it's the same tech illiteracy that had Cameron's government looking at ways to make encryption basically useless
HandsomeDead Posted August 31, 2024 Posted August 31, 2024 Yeah, it's frustrating how common these sledgehammer to crack a nut laws around the internet happen. Twitter is going to take a hit in SNK posts now.
Maryokutai Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Saw the politics thread, didn't want to derail too much, but how are people feeling about Xcancel? https://xcancel.com/ I haven't looked into it too much but from I understand it allows you to see and share posts from twitter without giving the page any traffic. I'm not really using twitter, but if this was allowed here maybe it'd be an alternative for maf or someone else.
one-armed dwarf Posted February 3 Posted February 3 I was going to ask about that as well but I'm not sure how it works, if it takes one visit to the site, generates and caches the content just once rather than triggering x.com requests everytime someone sees the embed. I think for gaming news at least, it's easy enough to get stuff off blusky and that's what I try to do. Think I linked x.com for something once recently but can't remember what On another note, x.com is probably becoming like 4chan in that clicking a link might find you inadvertently scroll into something illegal, even if the original content is totally benign, such is how derailed from its original purchase twitter is now
DANGERMAN Posted February 3 Posted February 3 I know people who use Xcancel, but it's usually just to recover deleted tweets from people after a controversy. Personally I have no issue with that being used, I'm sure there's a case to be made that it's still giving air to Twitter, but it's better than them getting views and tracking
