Not sure why but ive felt a massive urge to pick one of these games up again and start playing it. Might try to find Platinum for cheap.

Im not sure that im up to starting this all over again from scratch, but I feel the need to catch things and then evolve them etc, like the anime.

I deleted my old save and started again, plugged about 7 hours in so far and i loving this game all over again. The super extended break has done me the world of good, i have poke-patience again, something i lacked before. My cousin (who has blasted 176 hours into Platinum since the end of June) gave me some eggs to add to my early squad (best of which was a phat Murkrow born with Steel Wing and Sky Attack) to add a little variation to the dull early Pokemon, but ive got a decent sqaud of 6 that im happy with, got my first badge (again) and its on.

Looking through the Brady Platinum guide made me laugh, this is said to be a kids game but by christ its deep, there is a veritable FUCKTON of stuff to do.

I honestly think pokemon games are some of the deepest I have ever played, I doubt anyone could say they have done 100% of the game, as there are just so many little secrets.

Not until Spring of next year is the pedometer one out. Also known as Heart Gold and Soul Silver. I think i'll be ready then given that I didn't get much into DP.

This. That's why I traded in Platinum without even playing it (still have the limited edition tin, though), I'll be ready to play a Pokemon game again when Gold/Silver are out. They will probably be the definitive ones to have, too.

I have questions about the remakes that I cannot be bothered to research myself. As you know I'm in need of a new DS. If this works on the DSi and allows you to connect to the internet using WPA, I'll probably get a DSi and this game. However, if it isn't I might as well just get a normal DS lite and not bother with it, as the main aspect of getting G/S would be the trading online and shiz.

I've gone back to this the past couple of days, it's been a bit of a mix if I'm honest. I had a bit of fondness for some of my mon, namely Luxray and Torterra (or Grottle as he started out) so it was good to get back to them. the problem was, and it's the same for any game you leave halfway through, I didn't have a clue where I was supposed to be heading.

Where I started I was only facing really weak pokemon, then as I skirted around (and as it turns out stumbled on the right location) I seemed to be a bit underpowered. I'd forgot what the weak/strong combinations were and still haven't really got a clue what items I've got in my bag. One of my biggest problems, and I don't get why pokemon perseveres with this, is that you only have a limited amount of each move. It's not a massive problem when you've got like 40 of a move, but there's some, that you never get another chance to relearn if you turn them down, where you get 5. As such getting through a dungeon is much harder than it needs to be.

That being said I faced off against Dialga (the Diamond cover star) and caught the fuck B) I've not used him yet, and probably wont for a bit given that he's 7 levels above a couple of my other mon. He's not as strong as I expected either unless his stats jump.

Just completed it, and I'm very glad I did. Not that I hated it or anything, I really enjoyed it actually, but it's been a long long game, with fights every 4 steps. After the grinding to beat Team Plasma (or whoever they are) and capture Dialga I couldn't really be fucked with it again. I didn't really mind that you have to fight the Elite 4 without rest (just using items to heal/revive in between)but the surprise 5th fight is a bit of a pain. Still I managed to get through with the final move being a balls out flaming death race for glory where my starter pokemon (Torterra) fittingly won it all.

The thing that makes the Elite 4 and their leader difficult is the way they balance their pokemon. You can't rely on just throwing your fire pokemon against their water type because their water type will probably also have psychic moves or ground moves (that your fire mon will be weak against). Because of that I found myself throwing in one of my defensively strong pokemon just to revive the ones I'd lost

I feel like I completed it underlevelled given that not one of the Elite 4's mons were lower level than my highest, but me and google make a great training team :)

Im playing this on my DS Lite after getting in a hissy fit with White version. Had a save file with an hour on it but I hadnt even beaten the first gym leader. I'd chosen Chimchar and had a level 3 Shinx as well so I had to spend some time getting them both to level 13.

Having a fire and an electric type for a rock gym? Man, you crazy? I know. Taught my Chimchar Rock Smash for the fight, leveled up to 14 after the first trainer in the gym and he learnt Mach Punch naturally. Still, made the gym a breeze. Onwards.

It's a pain when that happens.

I'm a real anal fuck when it comes to teaching moves. I do usually research the Pokemon I'm raising's moves they learn naturally and plan out what TMs I give them.

I still need to finish Pearl. I'm on the 4th or 5th gym so I might join you with this. But it is my least favourite Pokemon game in the series so far so I might give up again.

I have the obsession again, a natural drive to play these games i've played a billion times before. I've no idea where it came from.

I normally do research these things, no idea why i didn't on this occasion. It also makes perfect sense from a developers point of view to make Chimchar learn a fighting move at this point as he is the one that would struggle most with this gym.

Fuck off DC, he has played these games for over a 1000 hours you know. Tut.

Pearl made me want to never play a Pokemon game again, it was so bloody dull.
