  1. I bought a couple of games last weekend as there was a promotion at Curry's

Mario & Rabbids 2 was £20 combined with various selected games. The other games didn't look up to a huge amount, but Spirit of the North had good reviews

I was also given a Pikachu cushion from my new job

  2. Sega are making more layoffs, and have let Relic go independent (sold them to themselves I guess?)

    Quote

Sega has sold Relic Entertainment, and will cut 240 roles across Sega Europe, Creative Assembly and Sega HARDlight

Relic is best known for the Company of Heroes and Dawn of War games, and recently developed the new Age of Empires for Microsoft. Relic will transition to an independent studio and will no-longer be part of the Sega group of studios.

The majority of the 240 job cuts are across Creative Assembly and Sega Europe, while there will be a ‘small number’ cut from Sega HARDLight. There was no mention of other Sega UK studios, including Two Point Studios and Sports Interactive.

  3. Yeah, we don't owe anyone anything. But as a publisher, I don't think the deal is so good that it works as anything other than supplementary income. I'll bet some people do amazingly out of it, but for others the money coming in mustn't cover the cost of development

Pure speculation obviously, it just seemed like Microsoft (and Epic with their exclusives) were always going to bump up against this issue if they didn't gain some traction

  4. I've been back on this. I still have issues with the control, but I spoke too early about the lack in variety of the levels. The very next world looked completely different to previous ones, and each one since has too, so on that regard it picks up.

It's still a solid game, I suspect if the controls make sense to you you'll love it

  5. Well, based on here as a sample (which it shouldn't be used for obviously 😅), yeah. I'll likely never buy a Microsoft game again because I have GP on pc. I suppose stuff like Doom I probably will, but it does seem like everyone who has access to Game Pass on here doesn't buy the game* if they can play it there

Yeah I know what you mean. I'm not a huge fan of the Bioshock games, I think the best one is the one he wasn't involved in. But I do like the world he creates, and at least he takes a swing at things. It lands better in Bioshock 1 than it does in Infinite, but at least Levine's stuff has something to it

  6. Yeah. I'd like to play Alan Wake 2, I'd have 100% bought it on Steam, but it's likely never coming there. I'm amazed they lost money on it, you'd have thought the publishing deal would take care of that. Anyway, I'll buy it on PS5 at some point

I don't really want a co-op shooter from Remedy, but I hope it does enough for them

  7. I watched the animated Turtles movie from last year, it's good. They've made a bit of a mess of Raph as his only characteristic is that he's angry, which doesn't really make sense given they're all naive and young. It's fun though, some good characters.

I also watched Censor. It's a horror film set around someone who censors films for a living during the video nasties scare of the 80s. It was alright, I'm not really sure why it needed that premise, they don't really use it, I suppose at the end, but it was that bit highlighted how little most of the film mattered. It's not bad though, well acted, it just lacks something

  8. I don't know how much they're charging, but that's how you do a late port. Here's all the content, we're not holding it back once it's done, and we'll even put out a demo so you can see we've put the effort in

  9. I suspect narrative inconsistency is something you'd care about a lot in comics etc, which is essentially what this is. It's just having the logic of the game and the narrative match, not the violence in and of itself

Animal Crossing has a non violent version of it with the money grabbing slum landlord

  10. Probably Uncharted as a series, but 4 especially. They tried softening Drake, I'm sure to make him a more mainstream character, but also as a dichotomy to his brother. They make a big thing about not killing people at the start, then start cracking jokes about people being pulled to their deaths. The stealth mechanic turned out to be slowly murdering people. Gears got away with it because they were pitched as soldiers at war, whatever the rights and wrongs, Drake sits and plays Crash, a sure sign of a wrong un. And he could always just walk away, he gets shot at because he's somewhere he's not supposed to be

The last Tomb Raider started to do a good job of calling Lara out on being a piece of shit, but they clearly lost their nerve, or the publisher did. There's that scene where the roles reverse, at points it was well made

Obviously Spec Ops is king of it, but it's also the point of the story

  11. I'm late to this but I've put about 20 hours in to Balatro in 3 days, it's the perfect Steam Deck game. Beat it focusing on two pairs, as I had a joker that increased it's multiplyer with each pair played. I kept cloning or picking face and ace cards, increasing the likelihood I'd have pairs to play with

My favourite build, that I think I could have won with but it was 4 in the morning and I'm pretty sure I did something stupid. Had a thing where my first solo card played got cloned and added to my hand, then focused on levelling up my high card multiplyer. Then I'd just play aces, added perks and stuff to them, so a high card was getting me stupid points and I always had aces

Great game, but I'm glad I got a completion on it before I ended up spending all night on it with work in the morning

  12. Ah ok. I was watching a DF thing yesterday and they said there's a Microsoft handheld coming. I don't know if that's based on anything concrete or they've just decided there is, but maybe it's that?

  13. I really hope this is good. I still feel grubby given who owns SNK now, but Mark of the Wolves is one of my favourite games

However, I don't think another fighting game should be using the phrase 'I'm going to take you for a ride', that's been claimed

  14. I'm in the Costa Del Sol area, I've done the various mini games in the town and have set off to hunt for a few shells. That's basically an excuse to open up the map.

I'm glad to get back to some combat, but it did also feel like the chapter had finished and it's time to move on. I'm not sure why I'm off hunting for shells (I have them), it feels completely pointless, but we're doing it rather than moving on

  15. I feel like there's probably countless horror games where half the reason they're effective is because of the sound design. PT for example, hearing that extra footstep, the repeated radio chatter where the volume climbs at the right time, the distortion on the baby, it's really well done.

I was going to mention my often used answer of Dear Esther for how it captures the swirling wind of a remote Scottish island, but also has an amazing score that fits the mood, so I will, but I'll also mention the horror game I always bring up. Enemy Zero. The enemies are invisible, you have to work out where they are by Alien style tracker beeps with pitch and frequency rising as they close in, it's fucking terrifying
