No, MK is a mobile game now where you dress up Sub Zero and make him solve puzzles on a cutesy farm.

    I don't hate that idea

They have said they want to adapt the next one, and make that a sort of finale. But Villeneuve is in no rush apparently

I think that's because he's probably read the second book and gone "fffuuuuuuuuuuu, that's a problem for later Denis"

  3. I think I should really like Denis Villeneuve's films as clearly he's one of the best film makers working at the moment, but I find his movies to be emotionally lacking, and characters do take somewhat of a backseat to the visual. I do love DUNE, and it is a proper cinema film. I watched it again at the IMAX the other week and it just looks and sounds amazing. I liked his blade runner movie as well, although could do with going back and watching it again, Sacario I enjoyed as well but has the character problem mentioned above. I've seen Arrival when it came out but can't remember a whole lot about it. Not sure where I'm going with this but my take on that quote is a little bit of he doesn't know how to do that aspect of filmmaking well, so is being dismissive of it. He nails the other stuff though

  4. Just bumping this as I started it properly last night for the first time. I've completed Galaxy twice in the past but never the sequel, but it always seems to rank highly both in 3d Mario games (my favourite type of Mario game) and general games lists as well, but I think this may have set my expectations a little too high.

It is a very well-designed game, incredibly innovative, but also it takes no prisoners in terms of challenge. Normally that's fine but so far with this the levels are challenging, but I'm fighting the controls as well, which has tipped it over from fun to frustration for me. I'll still be sticking it back on again this evening mind

I can see it on Switch with some bonus content, like a red cap for Joel and a peach dress for Ellie for maximum immersion.

I've not played it, but Joel has a brother as well, right? It writes itself

You can't really overrate Mario 64. It is for 3D gaming what the wheel was for transport.

You obviously never played Crash Bandicoot

    Spoiler

Joke, I agree Mario 64 is one of the Citizen Kane's of gaming, one of my all time faves

I've been thinking about that Citizen Kane comment all day and yeah, we don't have one, don't we. Progress in games has been way too fractured across different titles from different eras for that to have been possible. But I guess that makes the medium's history just as interesting to observe and analyse.

I guess it depends on how we relate Citizen Kane to film and apply the same standard to games. For example Tetris could be the Citizen Kane of games. Timeless, highly regarded, influential, some people hate it, often imitated, ground breaking etc. But does it need to be something narrative driven to count? Maybe it could be a hot topic question

It's not that I think it's a strange black box. It's just I'm very clumsy, heavy handed and stupid. Not a great combination to then go mucking around with expensive equipment.

You're not wrong, it's just a confidence thing

I'd offer to come over and do it for you, but I think you'll a little far from me.

  9. The "I Expect You To Die" games are fun lateral thinking puzzle solving VR games, I enjoyed the two I played a lot, not a whole lot of replay value though. Red Matter was also a fun space horror puzzle game, not too scary as I would never have played it, not sure if that is on the PSVR store. Cubism was a good 3D block puzzle game. I can't remember what else I played now on my Quest 2

I don’t know if he’s clearing up the shitty bits, but rewatching the trailer the snowy forest bit does look like the beginning of Age of Ultron, and the TVA are there so maybe Deadpool drags Wolverine around MCU history or something?

Maybe it’s sort of like the 2nd act of Avengers Endgame where the Avengers revisit bits from previous films. But where as that felt like an over extended pat on the back/victor lap, maybe Deadpool is just fucking around in different MCU films and doing things “in the background” which changes context for some events. Unlike Endgame where it was ‘serious’ Deadpool is just a fuck up and taking the piss. Maybe that’s why he says he’s Marvel Jesus

Or maybe it’s just a snowy forest, I dunno.

The action already looks so much better in this film

I think this is probably about right. The scene where he gets punched through a wall into something, is the 20th Century Fox logo. I imagine they'll be hoping about between all the Marvel stuff they've done so far, super meta, probably too much so

I guess I'm looking forward to this? I liked the other two Deadpool films, but also find them a bit try hard as well, and worry that this will just amp up the try hard stuff beyond my tolerance, we'll see though

I think mine was Castlevania on the GameBoy, I can't think of anything else before that. I don't think I had any Capcom games on the Master System

Just realised that's Konami isn't it. I'll turn in my badge and gun now

  12. Just watched Le Man's 66, really enjoyed it. Christian Bale does a very good Brummie accent, at one point he says about going for a cheese and 'am cob, which made me laugh more than it should have. Good film

I also watched Sicario for the first time ever this week, only 10 years late. I thought it was excellent, not sure why it took me so long to get around to watching it. Not sure if I should bother with the sequel or not, the reviews for it are ok, but it seems unnecessary
