I think I was the perfect age for Ghostwatch, 9 or 10. I watched it thinking completely it was real and watched it on my own as mum and dad were watching something else in the other room, it scared the shit out of me, properly terrified. This isn't the same as Ghostwatch, but I think the way it's done is similar, than say something like Brass Eye. What made Brass Eye so good other than how well it was written and how scathing it was, is how they got people on board thinking it was a real thing (Noel Edmunds and CAKE, the celebs they got in the paedophile episode etc), same for Ali G and Borat. The viewer is in on the joke and the people being filmed aren't. What makes this like Ghostwatch is that the people on screen are in on the joke, but the viewer isn't. Also the presentation, it is exactly like those farmed out shows that fill up early evening TV slots, a lot of which Wallace presents (and that's the key to selling it) even down to the painful music choices (the montage of Wallace driving to the factory is scored by Gary Numan's Cars, which is exactly what something like Homes under the Hammer or Bargain Hunt would do), the graphics, the on the street vox pops, it's all just perfectly researched, the same way Ghostwatch showed TV presenters that where a mainstay of live TV shows doing exactly what they normally do before Pipes fucks it all up. I throught it was great
  3. I used to love X-Men: TAS, I did start watching it again a few years ago (probably about 15 years ago..) but it just wasn't the same. Theme tune is still a banger though
  4. I throught she was in The Exorcist TV show from a few years ago, but that was Gena Davis. The show was decent though, I never watched the second season and then it got cancelled, so no idea if it's worth revisiting or not

Me and Naz watched it, I knew it was a spoof/satire, she didn't and half way through before the "big reveal" about how some of the meat is made I had to pause it and tell her it wasn't a real thing otherwise I think she would have gone absolutely mental

The Great British Miracle Meat on Channel 4 is worth a watch if you haven't already seen anything about it
  8. I thought you where going to go with "and the other is Oppenheimer"
  9. You're lucky I don't ban you
  10. Wasn't it his son directing Tales of Earthsea that brought him out of retirement first time around because he thought he did such a shit job of it? Thanks dad Edit https://kotaku.com/hayao-miyazaki-is-the-toughest-critic-1736009858
  11. If you do watch it again, but the subtitles on, it makes much more sense
  12. I'd still argue that Nolan is one of the best current directors around, and would always go out of my way to see a film he's made. I think I like TENET more than most, but it was also Nolan's worst qualities put together and alounf to run riot. The sound thing is frustrating, I don't think I've had issues with it at the cinema (although I'm pretty sure I've seen all his films since Rises at IMAX or equivalent) but at home it is impossible without subtitles and I think that is something he needs to do something about, it's the most common criticism leveled against him. As for Barbie, I'll watch it at home at some point. The people behind it make me curious enough to see it
  13. Squeezed in another chapter this morning when I was meant to be doing some work. I can really see at the time when Half-Life came out how this would have been pretty revolutionary, not just in visuals (because the version I'm playing looks nothing like the original for a start) but just in structure, story telling, NPC interaction and the likes. It still feels modern and you can see how it's dna runs through games today still. I'm going to try and reply HL2 plus the episodes once this wraps up. Also, I was surprised how easy I've picked back up KB&M controls.
  14. It's a cake and eat it situation though isn't it? EA still want to make money on the physical/digital releases before dropping them on to EA play or whatever it's called. I don't really have any issues with that if I'm honest. I keep thinking about renewing my game pass, but I don't think I'd get the use out of it. I think the year I had when I got my S I did pretty well, played a load of Forza and quite a few other things as well, so it felt like decent value, but I'm not sure I'd get the same value at the moment
  15. Nope, can't handle them at all, never have been able to. I'm not great with horror movies either, but can watch them (and enjoy them) if I'm in the right frame of mind, although I've never been able to watch any of the"found footage" horrors that where popular for a few years. With games though, they're too immersive, so I can't handle the tension. I checked this afterwards, it was actually the first three chapters
  16. started this this evening after watching the No Clip doc about the Half-Life 20th Anniversary. I never actually played the first Half-Life as I never had a PC that could run it, and it wasn't until Bioshock on the 360 that I got my head around twin stick FPS games on a control pad so the PS2 version passed me by as well. As for this version, it looks nice, bit dated but still good. My memory of HL2 and Episode 1 are pretty hazy having played them about 15 years ago but I wasn't expecting this to lean into the horror elements so much, which might make it a challenge for me, but we will see how I get on. I finished the first chapter in one sitting, some nice environmental puzzling as well as combat and stuff with NPC's as well. Yeah good so far, lets see if I actually continue with it.
  17. I'd never heard of Noclip before, I don't know why the YouTube algorithm has never suggested them , however I've watched about 5 hours of their docs throughout the day today. The production quality and research is excellent. The history series on DMA and Rollercoaster Tycoon where great, and I'm currently half way through their Half Life doc from a few years ago.
  18. Alright PS5 fanboy, give it a rest
  19. I need to go back to this. I started it on Game Pass when I got my S but only played for maybe 2 hours tops, then I bought it a few months ago as it was super cheap but haven't fired it up yet. I think it would be my jam, I enjoyed the modern TR games, so that comparison works for me
  20. Not really, because I don't go out of my way to play things that are going to offend me, it does happen from time to time though, although I'm struggling to think of any off the top of my head. I did take issue with the Uncharted games, where it becomes a murder simulator with Drake mowing down hundreds of people whilst wise cracking and worrying about not killing anyone (IIRC the second game starts with him wanting to tranq people not kill him and the last boss has a throw away quip about "how many people have you killed to get here"). I don't have the same issue with the modern Tomb Raider games though, as a feel like they justify it enough to make it ok?
  21. My memory isn't as good as I thought, I'd completely forgotten that
  22. That's interesting, I thought the first GT was Ash, can't remember the song though. It was lose control, but I think it was in the game, not used for the FMV
  23. See, I think US was better, felt more coherent and I didn't see the twist coming either, but I think you can make arguments for either. It's a pretty impressive three film debut anyway you look at it Yeah I think you might be right (about it being better, not the plot which you are absolutely right). I've seen Signs 3 or 4 times and not for years, but I still think about it a lot as well. maybe it's aliens I think about
  24. Isn't that just Signs? Also a good film tbf. I flip flopped between thinking NOPE was fantastic and a bit weak, but I saw it about 8 weeks ago or so and have thought about it a lot since so that's something

    Sand Land

I guess that's the issue with being (probably) the most famous manga alive, people want everything in the same style. I get what you mean though
